I was thinking more in line with IPTV type stuff. Watching your movies/live tv/dvr'ed stuff on the gamepad. That plus all the online content of Netflix, Hulu Plus etc. I'm really surprised Nintendo really is competing so strongly for the living room.
They probably went so strong on it because they won't be able to compete for the games once XBOX3/PS4 comes out. Lets face it.. The PS4/XBOX3 are probably going to be fucking powerhouse consoles in terms of CPU/GPU.

They will have their core audience like they did with wii but in terms of performance/looks.. It won't compete, it barely competes with 360/PS3 as it is unless these were just some really shitty ports.

UPS just delivered the console and I've got it downloading the gigantic firmware update. I have 50Mbps, so I'm hoping it's not going to take ages.

Also, holy shit at the size of the power brick. Not too far off from 360's monster psu.

So.

7) Browser is bad ass and best on nonPC yet. Its fast and very useful. Very good shortcuts on gamepad/buttons too. If you find a flash issue, see if the site you're on has a mobile version. That should work fine. (hint: just add "m." in front of the url)

Do you mean best on a Nintendo console or handheld? Because it isn't in the same league as a good browser on a droid or iOS device.

So now that people aren't balls out psycho first world probleming like yesterday, are we enjoying our new consoles??

Miiverse works now, which is a step in the right direction. I'd like to use it more, but its still taking about 20 seconds just to open and then 5 seconds to check responses to my messages. Messages have finally begun populating inside of games, which is cool I guess. Not sure Nintendo would be happy about the penises on display in Nintendoland though. That's not an attraction I want to ride.

It's funny that my favorite attraction in Nintendoland is Plinko, and also the Jukebox.

Nintendo doesn't do a full swap anymore (mail you one and you mail the bad one back in the box the new one came in)?

They didn't say how long it would take, so I don't know. It seems like a software problem that should totally be fixable with a boot disc, but I'm assuming they'll do a swap anyway. It's got a game disc stuck inside it, though, so I'd like that back.

Here's how the call went:

"Unplug it for 15 seconds. OK, plug it back in. Mail it to us. The shipping instructions don't even mention Wii U (only Wii and 3DS), so they seem pretty unprepared to handle this.

It cost $10 for packaging materials :(

I know that they don't do this on the Wii and the 3DS. If you require new hardware they transfer everything from one console to the next. That's why the don't send a full swap as far as I know.

They're expecting you to eat the shipping cost? That's not the Nintendo support I'm accustomed to.

It's how they handled my two defective Wiis years ago (graphics chip issue on both). But I didn't have DLC to worry about. They sent me a new one along with a shipping label to send back the defective one.

I have like 12mbps and it only took like 30ish minutes.

What happened??

I purchased NSMBU off the eShop, went back to the main menu, then loaded the eShop again. The system froze, requiring me to unplug it. Upon replugging it, it refused to boot. Powered on for a second, light blinked once, then powered down. Blinking blue light of death.

I wonder if the lag between menus is somehow related to their networking issues and Miiverse. I've had some UI lag but it seems very sporadic.

Welp, dropped my Wii U off at UPS. Now the wait for repairs begins :\

I'm in a similar situation (got a red light when I plugged it in and occasionally a blue flash, but the damn thing just won't turn on)... except my Wii U order from Gamestop arrived today. I'm staring at it right now, I can feel it taunting me. I'm just afraid if I open it, even though it isn't packaged in any cellophane wrapper, I won't be able to return it as planned (flipping it on eBay for $50 profit isn't worth the effort/chance). I don't want to be stuck with two Wii Us. Ack:(

Some of it possibly, but the time to load menus is equally bad disconnected from the Internet. I tried it to make sure my load time issues weren't being caused by network problems.

They paid the shipping, 2-day air (why not overnight, Nintendo?). But packaging was on me; box, bubble wrap, packaging peanuts, and "fragile pack service".

How exactly do you get those points for the wii-u on your club nintendo account? I linked my account but was given no option to register and points aren't showing... Did i miss something?

Also one last dumb question, anything worth buying off the E-Shop? (non-retail) i bought a $50 card and have no idea what to get.. Maybe ill just buy scribblenauts? Is it worth $50?

When you link the WiiU to a club account, you will have to do a survey on the website to get the points.

So, tried taking my pad further (to the couch/recliner) and it works.

I suggest anyone give this a shot: move your Wii U a tad bit in the direction of the room you're aiming for and you'll probably be able to play!

As someone that had zero interest in it and told friends as much (which will be now awkward that I have now invested so much in it! lol), so far its been pretty good.

Played NSMBU a very little bit, but was surprised how good it looked. I love both the new screen controller (sorry if there is an official name) and love the Wii U Classic Pro one A LOT.

Haven't had a chance to touch Nintendo Land or ZombieU.

Picked up The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles, and played Xenoblade most of the day. So far, so awesome.

Get trine 2.

Ours has froze one time on Miiverse. We just pressed the Home button and it started working again. No problems since. Try that before u unplug the console

One thing about the main menu is kind of weird. On the tv it shows your Mii with a bunch of groups of Miis around you, yet you can't move your Mii. Moving the control stick moves the menu on the Gamepad.

So does WaraWara plaza work for anyone? All I have are Nintendo messages telling me I should connect to the Internet. ProTip: I am fucking connected to the Internet.

Ok, so i've had the system for a couple hours and have been updating/tooling around with the interface. Haven't played any games yet (mailman stopped by with my gamefly games though!) but I do have some minor gripes already.

No usb keyboard support (odd since the wii supported it)

My tv apparently has the overscan problem(not sure if this affects games)

The gamepad doesn't change orientation in the browser if you hold it vertically (maybe this is just me being spoiled by tablets)

otherwise, great imoressions so far, going to go finally play some games!!

also this will be the first and last time I will ever post from this pad, this touchscreen wasn't made for typing.

Nano Assault Neo is fantastic.

This is probably a dumb question but how the FUCK do you quit nintendo land? is there no main menu for this? i have literally hit every single button.

Home button --> close software

That's all I had yesterday but Trike helpfully deleted the Nintendo Miis and liberated user Miis. It's an awesome marketing tool, my daughter saw Maxwell and started clamoring for Scribblenauts Unlimited.

My manager buddy that works at a GS went to one of those wii-u events and he explained it to me today that major companies like comcast is a go on it and you do use it to control the DVR but wasn't told that you can actually watch the content on it, they were pretty vague about that stuff and said it drops next month.

I am actually quite excited to see how this stuff plays out.

I'm still really hoping that Nintendo announces in the next year deals for subsidised Wii U systems with Internet/TV providers. It makes a hell of a lot more sense than the tablets they're giving away with subscriptions, since it works directly with their stuff.

That's the only thing that would realistically get me to do one of those "triple play" deals instead of the Internet-only service I have now.

HEY

Sorry if this is covered, but Wii U Pro controllers won't work with Wii 1 software, right?

Because it would be great if that were the case.

Gotta send my Gamepad back apparently my camera issue is known and may be resolved via future update but I dunno...30 days till the shipping label expires...I could get another label but I just want the camera working.

Hey, aren't save files NOT supposed to be shared between users? Because my step-mother can see AND use my NSMBU save file.
