Hey, aren't save files NOT supposed to be shared between users? Because my step-mother can see AND use my NSMBU save file.

some games have universal saves. so that all users can access save progress made in local multiplayer heavy games. it's on a per-game basis.

Finally the plaza is working correctly. I see Nintendo Land, Ninja Gaiden, Black Ops 2, Scribblenauts, Netflix, Sonic Racing, ZombiU, Batman, Mario, and Assassin's Creed 3. Most popular being Nintendo Land, Mario, ZombiU, and Black Ops in that order.

Best Buy wouldn't price match, so I just returned the games and re-bought them at Toys R Us across the street.

Something about they can only match dollar values and not % off prices.

Walked into Pharmaprix (Quebec Shopper's Drug Mart) and walked out with a Wii U! Sitting here waiting 20 years for it to update.

Man that FZero music in Nintendoland is fucking awesome.

With the issues, it seems like most people are enjoying their consoles, especially looking at miiverse. There definitely are issues though.

Yup to both.

HEY

Sorry if this is covered, but Wii U Pro controllers won't work with Wii 1 software, right?

Because it would be great if that were the case.

Would be nice...but not at the moment. Could something like that be updated?

Same for me. I guess these are the most popular communities?

Is there a friend request system?

Or do both people need to enter the NNID?

Request. Send it via a Miiverse search.

So I'm getting hit with the freezing glitch on NintendoLand. Every single time I try to play, I can play for 1-10 mins and then it freezes, makes a buzzing sound, have to unplug it (same as several others have reported). Everything else works fine.

Yes to both points.

---------

Where is the option to sync to a Club Nintendo account? I skipped it the first time around, and now I can't find it.

Its in the eshop. I forget where exactly, but it should be in the eshop.

I believe you just register the console for points.. No extra for the game.

Supposedly we'll get a survey sometime this week worth about 50 points.

First time you go to the EShop it will ask you to do it. If you skip that, you'll need to go into the Eshop, and then go into eShop settings. There's an option in there to link your account.

Realized today that Nintendo Land delivers on what I always wanted Mario Party to be.

Haha, I realized this earlier today when playing with a friend and going on the Attraction Train. It's still super competitive (curse you Point Swap rounds!) and it goes through minigames without having to fight over stars or curse the CPU.

Wiiu gamepad voice chat confirmed?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghHOQ6U0N7o

WiiUpad+headphones.
They said this already. Voice chat is possible on a game by game basis. It just isn't possible on a pro controller (you need the Gamepad nearby)

Thinking back to that rage filled thread a month ago about voice chat, I wonder how many people didn't actually read the details....

Edit: oh gamepad microphone... Ok that is a thing! I didn't read this time ;)

Hooked my Wii U up at lunch today to download the update, had everything ready to go when i got home. I have to say despite some of the bad decisions Nintendo has made this time around, I really like what I've seen so far.

Even though the interface is like the 3ds and not terribly interesting to look at(though I like the Miis running around on the TV) everything is quickly accessible without fumbling around. The load time between menus is slow, but not so slow that it annoys me and I expect they'll improve the speed dramatically in the future.

The TV remote function I thought I would never use was easy to set up and when I think about it, I only use the power and input buttons on my remote so it works fine for where I've got the Wii U hooked up.

Played NSMB for a couple hours and had a blast. I haven't played NSMB since the original DS version so I'm not burned out on them yet.

The gamepad seems to have a pretty good range. My bedroom is centrally located so the pad works in the kitchen, the living room, and the bathroom. Not that I will probably play anywhere, but my room, but it's nice to have the option.

I was never planning to buy 3rd party multiplatform games for this so poor ports don't matter much to me (though I hope future efforts will be better for those that do buy them). So far as a machine for playing exclusives I love it.

I suck at some of those Nintendoland games, haha. It's been so long since I have played such games, but it's fun to experience them for a little while.

Does anyone know if saves are compatible between physical and digital copies of Wii U games?

With the 3DS, I know they aren't (until Nintendo releases that tool), but that's because saves are on the cartridge. But Wii U stores saves on the system or hard drive. I'm wondering if they're compatible so that I can trade in my disks and go all digital.

Do you mean best on a Nintendo console or handheld? Because it isn't in the same league as a good browser on a droid or iOS device.
i think it's better actually, the wiiu browser is fast(not as fast as ipad2/3, but it shows the page faster), and text selection and editing are far superior to idevices. you're only losing pinch to zoom, but the 2 zoom buttons are easy to use, and clicking on links is easier with the stylus, i can't remember how many times i clicked on the wrong stuff on the ipad. plus browsing the web on the tv is sooo good, you can mirror display on the ipad with appletv, but imo it's not as good.
i hope they improve auto correct and maybe add in something like reading list later.

I was on my way to work this morning listening to the radio

I overheard during some of those bad morning radio shows they were talking about the Wii-U launch

An anecdote was that the system is selling like hotcakes but the guy himself wasn't blown away by the system, and that is the general impression he gets from listening to other testimony

The other radio guy made a lame and obvious joke, play on the Wii-U's name instead to "Pee-eww!"

The iPad Mini's chrome browser is much faster and doesnt checkerboard like the Wiiu browser does. They could allocate more memory to the browser to fix that if they wanted. The best part about Chrome + iPad is that I pretty much never have to type. Voice search and voice text entry beats typing and makes everything infinitely faster. Typing on the Wii U browser is also weak. It needs improvements in detecting what I'm typing and why the heck isn't it capitalizing words properly? Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad browser by any means, it's just not in the same league as Chrome on the iPad. Chrome allows me to synch with my PC instantly, have numerous tabs open and accessible quickly.

The best part about the Wii U browser is the Youtube support. Youtube on Chrome in iOS is crap. But that's easily remedied by numerous Youtube iOS apps that allow you to download and save any video you watch and even save them as MP3s. I'll be interested to see what the Youtube app on the Wii U is like, but I don't see much need for it since the browser works perfectly for it.

I will say that if you're like me and mainly handheld game at home, the Wii U is the best gaming handheld currently available. My only issue is that it won't make it to my bed without losing connection.

So I'm guessing that Wara Wara Plaza is the group of people you see when you first boot up your Wii U?

Also, every time I post something, I always end up having to draw what I want to say. And if I'm going to be doing that, then I guess I'm a sucker for the first art program that decides to come out for the Wii U. I don't know what to think about that. Damn you Nintendo.

The off screen TV play is great when moving the console around. We're bringing the Wii U to a friend's to play after dinner, but before then, we could get some Little Inferno game time at work and at the coffee shop. Just need to plug in the Wii U and the Gamepad works fine.

I never type. I draw all my notes. I hate Nintendo for not allowing colors. They're limiting my creativity.

Shame the system requires carrying 2 AC bricks !!!

Not as portable as it sounds

thanks, im still on safari (which is pretty shitty i know), i'll check out chrome for the ipad. although voice text wouldn't work in my case, if the ambient gets louder, i bet it'll stop working.

Just set up my Wii U! Best part so far: my wife didn't kill me for buying it, woohoo! Currently downloading the megaupdate. So far it's been a nice aesthetic experience. Hope they update the TV remote functions so it can control AV receivers. The gamepad screen is quite nice. More positive or negative impressions as warranted (although I don't think I could out-negative GAF, lol)

Just got home and unpacked and hooked up my WiiU. Update time! Boy is this slow.

make sure you utilize the down time by charging the controller. The controller doesnt have a lot of life out of the box, and it sits there with the screen on the entire time the update downloads.

Safari allows you voice dictation, but not voice search. Ambient sound will negate its usefulness if the sound includes voices.

Is it true that if you go in to play Wii games that it stretches all the games so you can't get them in the correct aspect ratio?

Your TV will upscale them. Not stretch them.

Well, upscaling is "stretching" (and it's apparently done by the Wii U's graphics chip). But they are still displayed in the correct aspect ratio of 16:9.

Edit: Seems like there's an issue with Virtual Console games and some TVs - read more below.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more people complaining about the glacially slow game installs. This thing makes PS3 installs seem downright zippy.

I bought Assassin's Creed 3 from the eshop, and after finishing a ~12hr download (on 30mb cable), it's now finishing up a 1.5 _hour_ install. I realize it's 17GBs, but that seems incredibly slow (~3MB/s) for writing to the internal storage, particularly since the entire machine is monopolized during this process (downloads are backgrounded, but installs are not).

Anyone have numbers for writing to an external hard drive for comparison? I can't imagine that it would be different, but anything is possible.
