Ontopc edit: Would he even fly out to Japan if the specs of the WiiU didn't seem intresting?

In general I'd think the hardware makers and giant third parties would try to avoid snubbing each other's invitations.

“From our perspective right now, specs are a big deal,” he said, adding that during his trip, he will looking to find out more about the gadget’s graphic and computer processing units, its price and when it might be shipped.

What piques my interest about this part is that it would have been interesting to see what kind of range Nintendo set for themselves for target specs. You'd think with the time frame this project started at they would have given themselves a decent amount of scalability.

lol. Unless you've never used any other console or PC service, I don't know how you can say that with a straight face.

Who said he was comparing it to others? And why even compare a handheld to them? I'm asking to understand why you would say that.

They're probably going out there for a full briefing/presentation on the console including all its features that they've worked out to this point. Given how tight Nintendo is they probably don't even want to conduct a meeting like that outside of their own headquarters.

I would assume this is likely the case. Putting up the heads of studios would do well for relationships as well. Also if any leaks take place they know who to look to and to hold responsible.

In what way is the online not great? It just works - easy matchmaking, minimum lag, online leader boards, it all just works.

NO PARTY CHAT, MESSAGING, CHEESE MINTS, NOTIFICATIONS, LITTLE BLEEPS AND BLOOP SOUNDS..

"Great" is meaningless if there's nothing to compare it to. I'm a great JoshuaJSlone.

But if JoshuaJSlone does everything you personally want then why should there be a concern about what the others can do?

To me it also suggests the potential that we're getting close to a Nintendo World like event for the full unveiling of the console and games to the public. It would make sense to give key developer partners a heads up and maybe even talk about a presentation and if EA wants to participate. After all, part of the final tweaking HAS to be about the actual formal unveiling of the console to the public (and i am not counting E3, that was much more of a preview than a reveal).

Give me your friend code. You have five seconds, and you can't check.

I got a feeling that Nintendo is going for the 10 year console cycle this time round.
And they need third parties to be onboard for the long haul.

That would mean they would be willing to risk going for a better specced machine if they get the support they need.

Wii U is in serious trouble now.

Rearing to make the most of the iPhone 4S' new AirPlay compatibility? How about streaming not just one device to your big screen, but four? That's the setup Firemint is teasing for its next big update to Real Racing 2: four-player streaming over AirPlay. The apps' upcoming "Party Play" feature lets an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S play host to up to three additional iOS devices running the game, piping the stream for all four to your boob tube via Apple TV. The update also promises to make the most of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S' A5 processor, kicking the graphics up a notch. Now you can relive those lazy summer days playing Mario Kart in your friends garage, albeit with faster cars and minus those infuriating blue shells.

Nintendo MUST allow four controllers now, or casuals won't care because their iPhones and iPads can do much of the same thing. The ball really is in Nintendo's court now, since they just lost their gimmick AND got outclassed!

They went with the 10 year console last time around too...

Very cool indeed.
Real Racing 2 won't win over any casual gamers though, probably not hardcore gamers either since gyro controls won't be responsive enough to the demanding Forza 4 and GT5 crowd. Plus, I highly doubt that casual gamers will go that route unless Apple does something about it's prices.

Its really true. Shiggy mentioned his desire to have the gamecube last 10 years, and for all practical purposes...it did. Anyhoo...this machine should last an f'ing long time and the controller may last even longer...being used with the next system.

I read post's before looking at who posted. When i read that last line i knew it was you porky.
Why do you always spell shit out in absolutes?
Apart from that casual's wont give two fucks about how many oozywhatzits the new Xbuk u Station can stream to, They'll just eat up whats considered in.
IMO Nintendo's real ace in the deck is family's who bank on it providing wholesome entertainment they can trust and no one's even come close to taking that away from them.

Do you really think this may be any relevant?
iPad and iPhones are all the rage and sell like hot pancakes, that's fine, but they would make pretty expensive priced videgame controllers, and I don't see many households with 4 iPhones/iPads owners around the TV playing together some Mario kart clone app(faster doesn't mean it is better by the way).
I don't say it may be interesting, but I believe it is due to be niche market on account of the said reason.

Whatever the case is, this still NEEDS to be able to use four Wii U controllers to succeed. And they NEED to be sold separately.

NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

In my undestanding, streaming slightly-worse-than-HD videogames multiple outputs to multiple WiiU pads should require a much powerful CPU than WiiU and would result in a dramatic slowdown.

We may more realistically expect something like "Mii hide-and-seek" to be supporting up to 4 pads, but again they would be quite expansive controllers for the mass-market, although cheaper than iPhones/iPads.

The Wii U's GPU (and all modern GPUs) are made with multiple outputs in mind, though.

The resolution and CPU tax from several ~852x480 screens shouldn't be much different than a split-screen HD game. Whatever wireless streaming method they're using not being conducive to multiple devices in a small area could be a bigger problem if they weren't designing towards that from the start.

Being able to play full-details-on some demanding games such as Arkham city, Metro or Battlefields 3 having two different outputs on TV and on the pad is already an impressive achievement, but I believe it's something that's bound to push the CPU to its limits, am I being misled?

Well, single player games aren't going to be streaming the full game twice like that.
They'll show the main game on the TV and then something else on the controller.
Or
They'll just show the game on the controller.

Multiplayer games will just do it like normal, where they tone down the graphics and geometry to save on power.

I was referring to something that was hinted months back by Alien developers, they said in the Wii U version of their game you could move the pad outside the TV box boundaries, like a sort of 360° virtual-reality immersive thingy.
