Here's to hoping Nintendo replaces that ridiculous "shelf" with some Dreamcast-like grips.

Looks good to me.

Yeah I'm kinda worried about the fingers on a flat surface. The 3 below I mean. Seems like inevitable hand cramping or something. Guess it's hard to know without trying it for a long period of time.

You should seriously go put your hands on an old Dreamcast controller. It's not nearly as comfortable or well designed as you remember, especially with regard to the handles.

Well, I´m excited again for the bird demo, it had really nice graphiic effects, the animation was so fluid, and everything was real time, also, it does feature AA in the first part (bird zooming) while running at stable framerate. Can someone confirm the fps?

Only thing I don't like about it is the water when the fishes swim back and forth. looks pretty crummy. Other than that, I found it relatively impressive. I'm optimistic though that games will end up looking even better in the long run.

It shows it can run Unreal Engine 3 caliber graphics. I cannot wait for Retro to get a nice IP to test the machine on. Let them make a Ravenblade like RPG.

Wait, are they releasing a direct feed of it or something?

@bgassassin: With the rumors of two completely different Xboxes next gen, one of which might use an ARM chip, you think we can safely toss out the idea of any quad-core Marvell chip in Wii U? Makes sense. There will probably still be an ARM chip in the Wii U, but I'm thinking single core Cortex A8 perhaps.

Marvell's ARM has single core variants also.

The Xbox rumor indicated multiple ARM cores dedicated to different tasks.

^^^Ah, ok. I'm thinking it's more likely that Nintendo just licenses the tech directly from ARM ,as they have in the past.

I don't know. The Armada XP PR sounds exactly like something Nintendo would want.

The ARMADA™ XP (Extreme Performance) series of multicore processors is the industry’s first quad-core ARM processor designed for enterprise-class cloud computing applications. The ARMADA XP series integrates four Marvell designed ARM compliant 1.6GHz CPU cores along with a host of I/O peripherals to offer one of the highest levels of integration in the industry. By employing advanced design methodology and process technology, the ARMADA XP delivers the best performance per watt to empower emerging cloud computing applications ranging from high performance networking and web servers to high volume home server products like Network Attached Storage (NAS) and media servers.

Well, you'd use a USB cable for others, obviously. But I mean, just laying the controller on the system to charge it seems convenient.

Ah, you mean an inductive charging system built into the top of the console itself. That would be interesting, but it would increase heat and the size of the box itself (a quick Google says maybe 8mm max).

Would that work through plastic, or does it require a special surface? Seems like it'd require a special surface..

Pretty sure the Power Mats are all made of plastic.
And it's not like they have to be touching directly, so material isn't that big of an issue.
I dunno, it's probably impracticable, but it would just be a good way to charge and store controllers going forward.

Any chance at all we get some news before the end of the year? There is the VGA's but Nintendo generally avoids it. It could be different though, seeing as Skyward Sword is one of the goty nominees.

BG said he heard there might be something next month.
But that might have been canned in favor of just a full re-blow out at E3.

Does anyone else want to see them do more with the sensor bar, instead of its current form of just 2 LEDs on a stick? The console obviously still needs it, so it has to exist in some form. I know the singular Wii U tablet has a camera and mic, but supposedly not everybody will be using one. I'd like it if they put maybe a higher quality camera (than on the tablet), and a Wii Speak-style mic into the sensor bar, just build it into an all-in-one chat solution for the console.

The sensor bar should be 5 devices and hook up to a USB port.

[LED]----[CAM]----[LED]----[CAM]----[LED]

This way it gets 3 LEDs equidistant (this is much more unique than two LEDs) and two cameras (these should be similar to what's in Kinect). This should allow much more detailed pointing and kinect/move type functionality.

The problem is that this breaks compatibility with old wii-motes. Some of that could be gotten around by allowing the wii-mote to fall back to old functionality, and allow the middle LED to turn off when needed, but it still adds complication to the end user. I can just imagine the cries of "what do you mean my old wii-mote doesn't work with this new game.

Something to think about. I certainly hope that Nintendo is.

^^ Yeah. I get the feeling if they had plans they were dropped. Though I never expected any in the first place. Not doubting what was said, but I just felt Nintendo wouldn't do it.

They should put the dock on the console itself.
I mean, it already has to be positioned horizontal as it is. So why not?

No way. Have that bad boy on your coffee table playing something if you have company coming over.

Plastics work fine. All an inductive charger does is create a fluctuating magnetic field (which works a small generator embedded in the the device being charged). As such plastics are perfect as they don't interfere with the magnetic forces.

The real issue is the power source. In order to creat a fluctuating magnetic field you need a fluctuating current (aka AC). Videogame consoles on the other hand run of DC power, therefore you can't just stick an inductive charger in like it's nothing.

Pfft. Do you not realize that Nintendo has magical consoles?
