lol "Nintendo" wasn't even on the Wii box let alone the console.

Gonna get dat Wu, son!
Are people still saying Vita is a stupid name?
C'mon, they wouldn't price the Wii U the same price the 3DS was when it came out. I say between 350-400$.
And depending on how long Pikmin 3 was switched to Wii U, it could be a launch title.
I think the brand piggyback is pretty synonymous with how Nintendo does business these days.
When will Iwata's company learn that a letter or # coded console sells like hotcakes these days...and keeps selling.
I vote for the N8, catchy quick name to learn and remember. Drop the "Nintendo" and market it like the Ipod. Lots of forum/meme fuel too.

That's mostly why I think Nintendo is in a tough spot. If they launch at 350-400, it'll be a tough sell to the general public who would rather get a PS3/360 for much much cheaper, that is unless the marketing clearly explains why the console is worth that price, which doesn't sound like Nintendo marketing.Too much.
They're in direct competition with a hotter than ever $200 360 and $250 PS3 (which probably will be even cheaper by the time Wii U drops)... I can't see them going higher than $300. Unless they start pushing the fact that it's so next gen and super powerful and an all in one media center. Which we all know it isn't.
You mean the tiny same-color etching tucked away in a corner?
Too much.

these days?
We're not sure of that yet. And we won't be until E3.
Though I do agree that Pikmin 3 won't be enough in the launch line-up.
Because people believe (rightfully or not?) that it's going to have to compete with convergence electronics, which their competitors are accelerating towards. Why is it so important for a console to be a all-in one media center? I have a PC for that. And I have a PS3, so I have a Blu-Ray player too.
But being games-mostly (if not only) could leave room for it to be a bit cheaper too.
Heck it doesn't even have to be about functionality. Is it going to be a cool, mainstream device if it can't play movies?
Which is a good thing.
Personally, all I want from my video games consoles is to do just that, play video games.
I mean, we all had DVD Players, we all had VHS, I don't need my console to do the same, since I already have something that does that job.
I hope they prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm predicting $250-$300, a little bit stronger than PS3 (basically Wii all over again) at this point tbh.
Two birds with one stone, the kid can enjoy video games while the parents have a machine they can use to watch Netflix on their TV.
NEC Electronics announced today that Nintendo has selected the company to provide 90-nanometer CMOS-compatible embedded DRAM technology for the forthcoming Wii console. The new LSI chips with eDRAM will be manufactured on NEC's 300-millimeter production line at Yamagata. While no clock speeds or really juicy info was included in the release, the news does bring up a variety of interesting points.
The official announcement does not come as a great surprise, as NEC and Nintendo have worked closely in the past. NEC provided the eDRAM graphics LSI chips for the GameCube, which it manufactured at its plant in Kyushu, and has also agreed to allow Nintendo to feature classic NEC TurboGrafx-16 games via the Wii's Virtual Console capability.
The announcements confirm IGN's previous reports that the Wii would make use of 1T-SRAM both in an embedded and individual application. Our most up-to-date specs promise 16MB of eDRAM (integrated in NEC's LSI chips) and 88MB of 1T-SRAM (the "additional external memory chip"), for a total of 104MB of system RAM, not counting the allegedly accessible 512MB of Flash RAM or the ATI Hollywood GPU's on-board memory, which is said to amount to 3MB.
I think the brand piggyback is pretty synonymous with how Nintendo does business these days.

I guess that 16MB either didn't make the cut or there was a mix up in info. I think I lean towards the former considering they called the 88MB 1T-SRAM.
360/ps3 can barely run games at 720p at times, could you imagine sub-that?
360/PS3 games could all run at locked 720p/60fps if devs wanted them to, but then they wouldn't be able to use all them whiz bang effects.
To be quite honest I find that the possibility (and in turn potential) of a device like the Upad, it's main selling point, to not have full muti-media capability to be a huge blunder. It completely flies in the face of the inferred value of the product, from a general public standpoint.
From a public standpoint a "tablet controller" only conjures up thoughts of what people are already exposed to. Which is the Ipad/Iphone/assorted cells and Androids. Otherwise what would be the point of inspiring public interest and jumping at the idea right now if not for the tablet/touch "revolution"? To say to a paying customer (who also watched the reveal video of internet/video chat/etc) "this device is nothing like you initially expect and not capable" and that this device is ONLY suitable for games and inadequate or not able to be a multi-media device is bad for the customer and sad for the products' potential. I think it hurts the product overall in just about every way, especially for a tablet controller.
N8 is nice, though I was thinking Nokia.
Actually, before E3 I was liking STREAM.
Yeah, I liked this name too. At least, without the suffix of Wii... that'd just be... stupid.
I reckon their next console will be something like 'Nintendo', or 'N7'. They can't keep the Wii name going forever, especially with the stigma it carries.
The stigma of.. high sales?
Which unfortunately was the majority of the Wii audienceNo, silly! The stigma of casual, kiddy, waggle control games.

what's the point of gaming without bloom
Nintendo arent using eDRAM, certainly not 768 or 1GB of it. The fact that they have different configurations proves it. Nintendo are probably using STACKED DRAM. Three or four 256MB DRAMs stacked on top of the CPU, possibly using TSV (Through Silicon Vias) for massive bandwidth and low power use. We could be talking about 384/512-bit or 768/1024-bit memory bus. More likely is that it is just stacked without using TSV and its a 192/256-bit bus.
. If the CPU is a POWER7 variant then there may be some addition eDRAM as cache on the CPU. If its a quad-core variant, then maybe there is 16MB of eDRAM cache (as the octo-core Power7 has 32MB). As the memory is on the CPU, it is likely that there is a very high bandwidth interconnect between the CPU and GPU as well. This would probably mean an MCM (Multi-Chip Module). Alternatively, the GPU has its own graphics memory.
Wii was made up, and didn't sound like it came from a specific country. Yuu sounds way too asianishSince you are talking about the name again, I will again state my preference for the Yuu.
After Wii follows Yuu. The "u"s obviously symbolise the new tablet. It would follow the brand but be clearly different enough to avoid (3)DS confusion.
A number would be less than ideal. Wii 2 sounds awful.
Getting back to the last rumor from Wiiudaily.
768 MB of DRAM embedded with the CPU, and shared between CPU and GPU
This blogger makes a good observation:

He goes on to say:

Asian? Really? Would never have guessed that. I thought it sounds like "you", just like "wii" and "we". But this time the focus is on "you".
Unless you are thinking of Yu Suzuki etc. I guess you are right, it can be argued that it sounds Asian.
Wii4U: Makes at least sense gramatically and takes a hit on the PS4.
