EA and Ubi aren't likely to do exclusives for anyone in most cases, unless they're weird spin-offs... even the likes of DICE are now wholly multiplatform. The Western third party developers and publishers that are likely to give someone an exclusive are more like: Take 2 / Rockstar, THQ, the old Blizzard side of Activision maybe, Bunjie, Ready At Dawn, Insomniac, devs like Epic, Bioware, Crytek etc. And they might be less inclined to in the coming generation.
ok guys, lets get away from all this silly industry talk and get to something even sillier - the end of conference bomb.
If you guys could choose the game they unveil at the very end of the conference after Reggie says "Oh and one more thing," what would it be? I don't mean what's your most wanted nintendo game. I'm more curious what you guys think would be the biggest bomb they could drop that would be the biggest possible surprise.
Why haven't I seen this before? I can't ever recall seeing it in the Wii U threads

Yeah don't get me wrong - there will still be exclusives and timed exclusives, just as there always has been - but I don't think any of the big brands will be shocking anyone by going exclusive anywhere. Manufacturers just don't have the clout or the financial compensation to offer anymore to ask a publisher to restrict their audience.

Slightly off-topic:
Does 3D stacking mean they stack CPU dies and GPU dies on top of each other, with greater bandwidth / less latency than otherwise? Is this possible for console use by late 2013?
no.. more like stacking chips cores http://www.extremetech.com/computing/95319-ibm-and-3m-to-stack-100-silicon-chips-together-using-glue
http://www.techpowerup.com/29229/IBM-Working-on-CPU-Stacking.html
I have not yet head of stacking a CPU with a GPU
I meant stacking CPU dies together and also stacking GPU dies together, not CPU and GPU dies together. Thanks for the links, seems I have a bit of catching uo to do.
that is promising tech but should still be on the expensive side I will be shocked with the first gaming hardware to use stacking tech but that is just a few years away

Yes! I've seen this before, and would like to see it somehow implemented into a Metroid game! Looks neat!
Yeah I'd agree with this, unless the Hardware manufacturer is footing the bill I wouldn't expect any exclusives from big third party publishers. Most likely scenario would be smaller ones who can't really afford (or don't see the value in doing) a big multiplat release themselves, but even then if they find some sucess they would probably try for other platforms later on like what CD project is doing with the Witcher 2.
Yes! Or (I think I've mentioned) an underwater/SCUBA photography game.Better served in Pokemon Snap, no?
Perhaps Sony will use it if they wait until 2014 (already mentioned in this thread if I'm not mistaken).
I would not put it pass MS to go for it as well but its still look like dream tech right now to me.
I am more worried about MS/Sony copying that Pad controller than them leaping ahead using 3D stacked chips
once that controller is copied I don't see Nintendo having anything to hold these guys off since they are so reluctant to power-up their hardware
Hope Nintendo goes crazy and adds a 3DS cart slot to the thing.
Really miss the Gameboy Player.

No, I have a 3DS player. It's called a 3DS. They need a 3rd party game player. I'm willing to break my $300 threshold. For one box, I'll pay. I ended up buying 2 consoles, multiple controllers, a bigger HD, a $100 wifi enabler. Just give me one box, $399, flash memory or HD or external HD support. And free online. Will this company ever lurn? I'm losing hope. 1 box future.
Endless Ocean 3: Search for the BloopYes! Or (I think I've mentioned) an underwater/SCUBA photography game.
On the bright side, if they copy the pad and the U is within scaling range, at least developers are making games with this new interface in mind.
I'm not too scared right now. If MS goes modest, better for Nintendo. If MS goes for the moon, we get to watch the fireworks while Nintendo bunkers-in in their own corner of the market while things unfold; we'd end-up maybe seeing a profitable-but-small-marketshare GameCube situation. If MS copies, tablet controller development accelerates.
Endless Ocean 3: Search for the Bloop
Truth be told, I don't see the core going to the U barring some earth-shattering development..the Move controller did not help the Wii... Kinect did not help the Wii but then again both of them came very late to the party and Wii was already a monster that needed no help.
But copies of the U's pad controls making it easier to have all games on the same page is good for gamers but I don't see the core getting a WiiU over an Xbox3 if they both have the same pad screen features - this does not help Nintendo gain anything on the competition
Don't make it sound like it's outdated - SiP is just a type of MCM, and MCM is still quite popular (and will become even more common with stacked memory).Yeah that's been done before. It's know as a System in Package or SiP. They use to compete with SoCs back in the day. The PSP used SiP's for it's processors.
HylianTom said:Truth be told, I don't see the core going to the U barring some earth-shattering development..
Either that, or some sort of jungle exploration game.
I also wouldn't mind a virtual tourist-type game where a famous city's streets, architecture, statues, and other attractions are there for you to pictograph.. along with secrets hidden around the city. And a story mode, of course.
Truth be told, I don't see the core going to the U barring some earth-shattering development..
I just want one company to go all out with the Tech. It's not Nintendo this gen once again, hopefully it's MS.
I am more worried about MS/Sony copying that Pad controller than them leaping ahead using 3D stacked chips
The only way that would be bad is if they copied the tablet but made it much better, like higher res screen, capacitative input, or better yet - hybrid system like the Galaxy Note...
...but I think Nintendo will have held something back. They'll know all too well that the others are willing to follow their lead if it works out, so I'm betting they've held out on a key feature / secret that we don't know yet.
With the others launching a year or more after Wii-U, it's still possible they'll be ripped off if it works really well for Nintendo, but I'm sure they have plans for that eventuality too (see Motion+ and Sports Resort announcement around the PlayStation Move announcement etc).
Yes! Or (I think I've mentioned) an underwater/SCUBA photography game.
Miyamoto talks about Polygons
"Polygon movement is essential in the creation of 3D games. Therefore,
we are taking various steps to simplify polygon movement. Namely, this
includes calculation of polygon display, properly shading and lighting
the polygons and applying the textures. Whenever new hardware comes
out, the manufacturer always talks about how many million polygons it
puts out, but never mentions that when textures are applied only half
that can be handled. Then when you do the lighting calculations, the
number halves again. So the actual number of polygons is half of half,
or about 1/10th of what they say. So if the specs say the machine can
do 80-100 million polygons, that really translates to roughly 5-8
million.
Polygon-pushing power isn't enough; game machines have to be able to
handle things like terrain and collision detection too. When the CPU
handles these tasks, it can't do much else. With the GameCube, we've
divided the tasks up as much as possible to eliminate bottlenecks. If
you simply look at the documented specs for existing systems, they may
seem to be the latest and greatest things at the moment, but in a year
or so they'll already be outdated. On the other hand, looking at the
GameCube, I think it will have a shelf life of many years. We wanted
to make a piece of hardware that would free developers from worrying
about technical stuff like polygons or bottlenecks."
"Some people might say; 'GameCube isn't great, just look at its CPU
power.' The truth is though, for tasks such as drawing pictures or
making music, GameCube doesn't use the CPU. I think the balance of the
GameCube hardware will lead the industry for years
to come. Existing consoles aren't capable of producing the demo's we
showed at Spaceworld. In fact, I think the demo's resemble graphics
created by multi-million dollar workstations."
Microsoft-watcher and plan-leaker MS Nerd has been shooting his mouth off about Microsoft's Xbox plans over on Reddit, claiming that we'll see an Xbox Lite launch date in late 2013, with a true new Xbox coming later.
The Xbox Lite will be an ARM-based platform that should receive a price tag similar to that of the Apple TV, so around about £100 in the UK and $100 US...
Since nobody responded to this, I moved it up.
Slightly off-topic....
I love this piece by Miyamoto with regard to GameCube
http://www.usenetmessages.com/view.php?c=alternative&g=5818&id=158812&p=0
Well, it lasted, didn't it? Also, does anyone remember that quote about multi-million dollar workstations?
And now, with Wii U, Miyamoto has access to a home console that can produce near-CG (old CG) like graphics, going by the Wii U Zelda demo!
Point is, I think Wii U's graphics are 'enough'.
I just hope the next Zelda somehow retains the 'look' of the demo.
Imagine if Sony were to think long and hard after looking at their bottom line, ultimately producing a quirky, affordable '2 PS3s duct-taped together' console intended to be a port twin with Wii U.Development realities being what they are, you'd probably need Sony going that route as well to see more than a handful of third-party games that really take advantage of that tech.
It really doesn't make a lot of sense for Microsoft to go all-out, though. Sure, it was fine for them to take a loss during the lifespan of the original Xbox to set themselves up for profitability with the 360. They had the financial resources to survive those first few years, and they eventually entered the black, but they'd essentially be sending themselves right back into the red with a significant climb back to profitability if they release a cutting-edge console.
oh no you didn't! .gif
Expectation rising!
Many of their fans would throw temper tantrums at not being able to see each individual Sackboy fibre rendered in flawless lighting. It'd be hysterical on both ends.Imagine if Sony were to think long and hard after looking at their bottom line, ultimately producing a quirky, affordable '2 PS3s duct-taped together' console intended to be a port twin with Wii U.
Can you say 'punk'd'?
yes he hasHas ShockingAlberto been right on stuff before? That would be great news about MS going all out, but is there any reason we should believe Alberto other than him being perceived as one of the saner Nintendo fans? It would be music to my ears if true.
What do you want them to say?It surprises me that current day Nintendo is so relucent to talk about technology and specs. Back the , we were a lot more open.
Nowadays their avoidance of tech talk makes it seem like they are clueless in the realm. Which is far from the truth. I just don't get it. They get a worse reputation by not talking about specs or at least technology.
Really? Luckily for MS, they have all the money in the world so pushing them out isn't the option. This is generation where MS will prevail.Sony should pull a nintendo and release with a lower price and lower specs sooner rather than later, and then the 2 japanese giants can work together to box out the baka gaijin of console manufacturers. It's a gamble but if they rack up the majority of the gaming base by a large enough margine, developers will have to cater to them first.
Pikmin 3 (EAD) Quite a sure bet
New Super Mario Bros. Mii (EAD) Not so sure
Mii Games Collection (EAD) Would be great, especially if bundled for free
Retro Mystery Game (Retro) Me too I think that they will show it. But not sure if it will be a launch title.
Eternal Darkness 2 (Silicon Knights) This it too "speculative, imho, up to now
Monolift Crashed UFO RPG (Monolith Soft) They are the only team officially working on Wii U title (apart Pikmin), but I don't know if they'll show a Jrpg on the showfloor
Killer Freaks (Ubisoft)
Ghost Reacon (Ubisoft)
Assassin's Creed 3 (Ubisoft)
Project CARS (Slightly Mad)
Aliens Colonial Marines (Gearbox)
Batman: Arkham City (Rocksteady)
WWE '13 (THQ)
Lego City Stories (T2)
Madden '13 w/ Unique Controller Features (EA)
Darksiders 2 (Vigil)
Dragon Quest X (SE)
Tekken Wii U (Namco)
All of these if I'm right are officially announced. There is something interesting for gamers and for market, but I hope to see also some new announcments from third party, both in terms of multiplatform (RE6 in particular, for me, and GTA5 for the mass market) and in terms of exclusives (for examples something Battlefield related from EA, and some (a couple?) of japanese titles. And don't forget about casual hits!
Yes, the company with the most money will always automatically prevail.Really? Luckily for MS, they have all the money in the world so pushing them out isn't the option. This is generation where MS will prevail.
New twist ! ^^
So guys, how do you deal with the rumor of an Xbox Lite coming in 2013 ?
How could it impact Wii U ? If it's true it means for Nintendo no competition for next gen until 2014 ? And how would react Sony ? And what's the color of Napoleon white horse ?
No, I'm saying because of the money they won't go out. I think they will prevail if they go good performance and price ratio, while packing Kinect and giving even better service than Live is now.Yes, the company with the most money will always automatically prevail.
Just like with the Zune.
And Windows Phone.
New twist ! ^^

Why would they release a new $100 xbox lite when they are selling 14 million $300 old xbox heavy's a year.
