As do I.
I have a feeling that it's either an old IP, Metroid, or Zelda.
There is a risk of doing a new IP at the very beginning of the generation. Most fans are expecting Nintendo staples in HD. Doing a completely new game could confuse some people, or just turn them off.
I disagree. There is no better time to introduce new IP's than at the beginning of a generation.
Few examples:
Halo 1 at Xbox's launch made Xbox a respectable competitor.
Pikmin came out in first 4 weeks of GameCube's launch.
Uncharted came out pretty soon in PS3's life.
Red Steel 1 sold extremely well as a launch game for Wii.
Raving Rabbids sold extremely well as a launch game for Wii.
Lumines became popular as a PSP launch title.
Soul Calibur was a brand new IP that launched with Dreamcast.
Marvel vs Capcom was brand new IP that launched within first 3 months of Dreamcast.
Ready 2 Rumble was a brand new IP that sold extremely well at Dreamcast's launch.
Hydro Thunder was a brand new IP that sold extremely well at Dreamcast's launch.
Gear's of War 1 came out at the end of the Xbox 360's first year and had big success.
Gravity Daze is a brand new IP for PS Vita coming this summer.
Condemned was a new IP that came out at 360's launch.
Interest in a console usually is at its highest in the first 2-3 years, and then interest begins to dip.
If Nintendo is going to release a shitty new IP like Steel Diver, then yeah, you'll get shit sales. But consumers are always up for a new IP if you give them a genre that they are actually interested in. It all comes down to the genre more than anything.
A new IP in the action adventure genre or first person shooter genre will gain more interest than other genres.
