Wii U's Nintendo TVii, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, and Netflix pushed to Dec.

There you go early adopters, another win for you guys. Dunno which one tops the list for 'dumbest people' award. Early adopters or undecided voters.

Yeah how stupid of me to get to enjoy the launch games I want to play for a month or so while I wait for additional functionality.

Jesus.

Why?
There's plenty of precedent for consoles launching without features they would later have. The 360 and PS3 have had tonnes of cumulative and improving updates.

Also... it's a month. Meh.

Because two months ago it was shown off as a huge exclusive WiiU feature (ready for launch), and up untill yesterday was still scheduled to be ready at launch. And how in this day and age is it acceptable for any console to launch without any video streaming features? The month delay is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but its still disappointing.

Btw, I was recently wondering why we never saw the TVii american commercials shown in the compilation piece. This is why.

One could point out that every platform this generation has launched with missing or pushed back features that have been patched in over the next several months, along with seemingly every other game on the HD consoles and PC.

Nintendo failing to have something ready on day one is special news of course, because Nintendo is stupid and cannot do an internet, etc etc.

Note: this does not mean TVii being delayed is not a disappointment.

Edit: upon reflection, is anybody considering that TVii and the streaming apps are all functions that would be entangled in licensing deals and contracts with the content providers? It kind of seams like the least surprising feature to suffer some form of delay.

well I tell you one thing... now that Wii Youtube app makes sense. Wii U owners will be able to use Youtube, Netflix and Hulu Plus apps right when they buy the system!*

HAHA what a piece of shit launch. Hey it can do all these things, eh maybe next month though barring any problems WINK WINK.

Enjoy 2013 wondering when you nintendiots will be able to watch netflix, hulu or hell even PLUG IN A USB drive. What like every cell phone outta the box can do what this this can't. OH nintendo you never ever disappoint.

HI larious

Talk about overreaction..... Delaying the 3DS the eshop for half a year was bad, but this....? But I'm European so this isn't effecting me at all.

I guess it's a step above $599 or RROD, but who knows what other problems there are until its out? I wouldn't trust a damn thing from anyone until it was out a while to make sure the system doesn't blow up or anything.

Seems like a weak way to lose an account dude. You could have went to GameFAQs and posted that and pissed off more people and made a new account.

I hope they bring TVii to the UK. We finally have the ios TiVo app which can bring up the guide, search my shows and start playback and control the TiVo over wifi. So integration with TVii should be doable, especially if there is TiVo integration in the US (ios app is basically the same as the US version)

I don't have television nor video streaming service subscriptions, but you're right, I'm sooo dumb for buying a system that is delaying these integrated features by a few weeks.

Money wasted.

I didn't get a PS3 at launch but I think my 360 did everything it was announced to do. Naturally it didn't do things that were announced and added after launch, that would require magic. Also this isn't Nintendo specific. I guess you didn't see the railing that MS got when smartglass wasn't going to support iDevices day one. That thread was WAY worse than this.

Oh, except for Live anywhere! Lol that was complete vaporware.

Glorious. Calm down and tell us how you really feel Drinky Jr.

That's cool, I can deal with a (short) wait on the extra video apps. All I care for now is that YouTube is already confirmed to work with the browser (HTML5 ftw). I'm gonna watch so much MST3K on that thing.

Not a huge deal, though if I don't understand Nintendo (any company for that matter) saying "Day 1" if there is any chance that it won't happen. Especially in Nintendo's case where the info they have provided has been minimal, at best. One of the few pieces of info we've known for a long time, turns out to be incorrect while almost every other piece of information was withheld until a week or so ago.... Oh well guess we'll need to use a gaming console for gaming (this isn't an excuse for them as they should have never said it would be ready at launch)

Edit: To be clear, this was one of the features I was looking forward to the most

Don't do that.

The whole "Nintendo consoles not having full range of advertised features at launch" thing is getting a little stale. Oh also, no 3DS Netflix app in Europe yet guys. C'mon.

This says "rushed online / launch in general" to me.

Not sure a feature's delay of one month would indicate a rushed launch in general. A real rushed launch would have a "noticeable offset" of several months (like 3DS). This sounds more like tweaking/finetuning, something Nintendo is almost obsessed with.

Don't worry guys... you'll live.

This is really the most incompetent company in the industry right now. Months after the 3DS launch, Nintendo admitted that one of the major factors that co tributed to the handheld's rough start was not having all services advertised in place day one.

now here we are again.

Services lagging behind release was bad, sure, but what showed Nintendo's incompetence more than that was that they released a brand new handheld in 2011 that still tied purchases to the hardware instead of to the user. And to this day it's still like that. I literally can't think of another company doing it this backwards.

I'm glad I decided to hold off signing up for the Hulu Plus 1-week free trial. I was on the verge of doing it this morning, then I got distracted.

Somebody up there (in Redmond) likes me.

The eShop was missing for about 6 months. That was a problem.

Nintendo TVii will be missing for what, like 2-3 weeks? Big deal.

Yeah, this was never confirmed for day one. And the overreaction here is hilarious. Europe and Japan won't even get this in december maybe never.

Hyperbole!

Is this a deal breaker for anyone? I'm slightly disappointed but I guess it will give you something to look forward to.

I can't imagine that it would be.

Plus couldn't you just download Netflix in the Wii mode? I have 4 other devices that run any one of these services anyway so it's of zero consequence to me.

I am looking forward to this thing even though I have no cable but putting those 3 streaming account in will help me find my movies.

hope I find my Animes

Oh, except for Live anywhere! Lol that was complete vaporware.

The 360 probably had the most complete launch by modern standards - it had some significant annoyances in that it didn't launch with background downloading, and people were waiting for months on its Xbox BC compatibility list to be slowly and haltingly updated.

PS3 was just generally behind the 360 in a lot of ways at launch, as the dozens of firmware updates over the following 1-3 years attested.

I realize Nintendo can be mocked for "they had seven years to make everything perfect", and that's the reasoning some people do use. That's not really realistic with regards to the way products are developed though.

At any rate, this is definitely a disappointment. It's not good that such a major feature is not there at launch. It does prop up theories that the reason why Nintendo wasn't showing off the OS functions until just now is that they were still getting things ready up until the final stretch.

I guess in that sense, it's to be expected - everyone wants Nintendo to catch up to what are called industry standards. It's a little silly to then laugh at them for showing signs that that they're in the process of catching up, and working on it.
