RRoD was a hardware issue, not a software issue. RRoD has nothing to do with comparing launch features of a console. Just saying you're getting kind of off topic.
Not really, my point here is it's a company quality control issue, not a bells and whistles issues. Remember: these companies are the ones asking you to pay $350-$500 hauls, day one for the system and game(s). Not the other way around.
If that's the case EVERY damn thing in the system, day one, should have been prepared for. Hell, not only prepared for, but double and triple prepared for. Not "oh shit we're not ready, we'll patch it up later on." That's not even counting the rush jobs because of the development kits that it looks like some of the ports have.
Lost in all of this is the people that aren't going to have the means to get the update, period. Lets not forget, Wii wasn't exactly an online friendly system, and many played it offline. I imagine a lot of kids will be getting this for Christmas, and things that have to be patched in through an online update like the TV and Wii BC things, some people just won't get them because they don't have a WiFi modem or maybe even the internet. That's a pretty shitty way to handle those types of consumers.
And we haven't even gotten to the launch to see if there are widespread issues, like the 3DS having scratch problems that still doesn't sell from Amazon by last check because of it.
Bottom line is, companies need to stop getting a free pass on shitty launches. Everything better be available day one that they've pushed for a year now as a feature. And things like the system actually being reliable and working DAMN sure better be there. They're the ones asking for money, not the other way around, and the games aren't going anywhere if you don't play them day one they're available. They'll be there a month, a year, 5 years from now on the shelf. Being new, shiny, and marketed out the ass isn't a replacement for delivering on promises, value, and making sure everything works. They shouldn't be rewarded day one if that's the case.
