Wii U's Nintendo TVii, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, and Netflix pushed to Dec.

SURPRISE!...it's nothing

so from November 18 to December ... not too long a wait, but still disappointing with all the "learned are lesson" talk with the 3DS and the late arrival of online features etc

I was kind of expecting them to stagger the updates, it would keep their servers from crashing day one when everyone's trying to download everything all at once.

They've already stated that they weren't anticipating the number of pre-orders, hence the commercials airing for a sold-out product.

I'm pretty sure some Wii U software developers have to work long hours right now. Poor them. Learning a lesson or not has nothing to do with this situation.

Not that I would have used any of this stuff anyway, but it's still not a good look for them. Doesn't really hurt me in the slightest though personally. Still, they really should stop doing this type of thing. Their stuff is never complete on day one.

i am pretty sure they pushed TVii and the video services to Dec to distract people from the fact that they (NIntendo) has no 1st party games coming to the system in Dec.

They're probably like "Hey, lets push this, and then when we do release it, people will sorta forget the fact that we have no games coming out for the system in Dec"

This reminds me of the scene in Beverly Hills Cop 2, when they con Gilbert Gottfried...

Do I have something in this office that will make you forget about whats in that hand...

But this is pretty small compared some of the stuff that was missing fro 3ds launch.

Yeah, the 3DS made me never buy a system at launch again, but this is pretty minor.

Looking at the latest threads/ post I don't know if the launch of a new system is making people less rational, more emotive or the quality of the posters in general at gaf is much worse than it used to be...

I understand that Nintendo TVii is not going to be available in the day 1 update. What if the reason is because Nintendo ran out of disk space to include the Nintendo TVii update for the basic model. The Base Update is already 4.2 GB and now we understand that is without the Nintendo TVii options, I think and that only leaves 3 GB left. Maybe they are trying to figure out how to fit it in the base model. Just a thought.

I believe it's known as New Generation Launch Syndrome, or NGLS. Expect a significant relapse around this time next year.

very true.

The features missing are Tv convenience related, not game related.. so it's not somethign that will hurt the launch day gameplaying experience.

The important thing is the eshop, BC and Mii online features will still be available day one (after downloading)

Wait, what? They should have shipped it on a DVD.

...That sounds like something that you would square away in the first few days of designing the service.

What would make it take up so much space? How much space does Netflix take up on the Wii? It's like nothing. There's nothing to store, it gets everything from the internet, live.

Wait, what? They should have shipped it on a DVD.

No, the Wii U reserves 4.2 gig of data when you turn it on. The update may or may not be that large. Presumably it is space for things like a Nintendo Video service or reserve for future updates.

It's an app that gives you a unified search interface for looking through all of your streaming / downloadable video services at the same time.

Kinda neat. So, the rage is about having to wait a month or so while you do it the same damn way as any other console? When will this company ever lurn?

I use 'apple tax' to concisely tell people why I don't like apple. There is a definite Nintendo tax on expectations. They just routinely start off 7% behind in terms of expectations.

'OMG, I can't believe NSMB U is an 8/10. Such a shitty game. And why don't they have online? Like no one else who makes online platformers. Gosh, I hate this company.'

I can understand being upset but just like Nintendo fans take it to another level, Nintendo critics feel a need to 'overcorrect' for those overanxious fanboys. Good show, gaf.

My most sought after feature, delayed ={
Yep.

I just cancelled my BestBuy preorder. Also cancelled my discounted Zombi U and New Super Mario Bros from NewEgg

Fucking typical Nintendo. Fuck You.

I was actually going to make a thread about this this morning ... but I was raging too hard to do it.

I cant believe a universal remote is such a big feature to some folks.
It's not the universal remote that's the issue here ... it's the aggregation of media including TiVo under a single search and UI that I was purchasing this for.

Guess what ... some people have different priorities. I wanted this for its HT aspects.

Your reaction is still toddler-temper-tantrum level, regardless. Class it up, no need for that nonsense.

Yes, being angry that they pulled a bait-and-switch 2 days before launch such that my use-case necessitates cancelling my preorder is a 'tantrum'.

Saying "Fucking typical Nintendo. Fuck You." in any situation is a tantrum, yes. We are adults, use big boy words.

Also: canceling preorder because of a 2-5 week delay, ensuring that you will not be able to get the system whatsoever when the service becomes available due to demand? Seems like a pretty tantrum-ey reaction to me.

I'm not liking one bit how nintendo has been keeping secrets from consumers right to the very last minute...

What secret? People assumed this was going to be a launch day service. Nintendo never promised, they never even said that it would be there at launch.

Sure they did. A ton of times. It's absolutely a change, and certainly aint so great, it's just not worth the meltdowns.
