That so doesn't make sense to me. I mean, purely based on the fact that Wii Sports is a 2 player experience.

Releasing the Wii bundle without 2 Wiimotes is like releasing NES with Duck Hunt but without the Zapper... :-/

oh, it makes total sense.

Goes to show how much art style can do. Actually I don't even like the art style of this game much, but I still think it's one of the most beautiful games on any system.

Art direction does make a big difference. I would put ICO, FFXII, KH2 SOTC etc.. of up against most next-generation titles that have been revealed and aesthetically they would win out in most cases, but thats not to say they are in the same leauge technically or graphically. Zelda TPP is the same way. Again, not to say it isn't an amazingly crafted game--it is. But when you look at it, and then see things like COD:3, Fight Night, Lost Planet, Mass Effect etc.. there is a profound difference.

The Wii is going to be hot sh!t in Japan, no doubt. But I don't see one thing that will intice western gamers to buy it over the 360 or PS3.

Well, I see this in a relatively simple manner:

Nintendo can afford to sell Wii Sports in Japan, as they know the Japanese will eat it up. Those in the United States I do not think will be prone to buyin this title (as you have illustrated, and I would as well - no more than 20-30 USD would I pay..). Thusly I believe it's rather smart to bundle it, as I think a lot more people will enjoy it than they think.

But without 2 Wiimotes? It's ridiculous. I understand greed and all, but this is just.. insane? Nonsensical? Why, why, WHY would it be done that way? No one is going to get home with Wiisports and one mote and think "awesome game.. sweet.." It's only once the interaction comes between players and friends. After my experience at E3, I can't say it'd be all that fun alone unless some major changes were made.

It's simple, Nintendo likes making money, and Sony/Microsoft like losing money hand over fist trying to turn your living room into their personal playground for non-game crap.

If it was online, that would make a difference, but unless it is, i agree.

BTW... how would you multiplay that boxing game if it isn't online? You would need to lan with two TV's... It would be very awkward to play the guy on the far side of the screen... It's sort of a first person game. I guess you could do split screen?

So what have Nintendo held back for the US presentation?

Media Player?

DVD?

Smash Bros Footage?

Disaster Day of Crisis footage?

Online gaming?

DivX-Player for attached USB-Harddrive. Believe!

MrArseFace
can it stream photos from a PC over the network, not just SD cards?

If so, wouldn't it make sense to also let you stream music while viewing a slideshow? And perhaps stream video?

Its odd. With all the new attention on media, there is still nobody that has the whole package done properly.

or buy "my first wii" for $40 and get a game and a remote, put the $10 extra for the nun-chuck and you get a "Free" game.

Plus you get some of nickle and dime shit that you have to pay through the nose for else where (the stand for instance - say hello to 3000 yen saved!, strap etc...)

But games like COD3, Fight Night and such don't make me go WOW (in a good way). I can see they're technical masterpieces on their own, but the more devs try to make games realistic (doesn't mean they have to have realistic setting), the easier is to find the flaws in such games. In Zelda: TP it doesn't really matter if floor textures aren't super sharp (or well sharp at all), but when you see in Lost Planet how people and robots don't leave footprints and such in the snow, it takes a lot away from the WOW effect and makes you think it doesn't really look that nice.

So in short, the more realistic the game is, the more you'll nitpick about all the flaws. It'll never end, no matter how powerful hardware you have (in many movies with some super effects, the smallest mistakes crash the whole experience IMO).

fortunately, most next-gen systems have the smarts to stand on their own. Without the need for a stand. ;)

And why the hell would I want "my first Wii". I think it'd be worth not getting a free game if it meant not supporting that software. :p

There are more GUI menus to be revealed
The main site Wii.com has 2 screens(menus) still saying coming soon, these weren't there earlier.
One for the NA conference and one for the EU one perhaps?

All bundling the Wii with Wii sports does is give Nintendo an excuse to sell the system at $250 state-side. They're basically forcing us to buy the game, that the least amount of US gamers are interested in. Its sort of like the retailers that forced people to buy the PS2 with fantavision at a higher price. Gamers will still buy the games they actually want, so its an extra software sale for Nintendo. And the people who are actually interested in Wii-Sports will have to buy an extra controller. May be a business savy move, but it sucks for most gamers. And they say Nintendo is all about pleasing the gamers.:lol :lol

Most likely, they're the online and VC/shopping menus.

EDIT - I think, concerning online, we'll be hearing much more about that by way of Western news (New York and London conferences), as online gameplay seems to be more important over here than it is in Japan (ie, Xbox 360 not doing as well over there, etc.).

Maybe they're just trying to get people who are lukewarm to the game to try it out.

This really hinges on whether or not there's an extra controller. If there is, it's a good price. If there isn't, then it's Wii Sports' fault, and I'm not playing it out of principle.

Okay, maybe I willstill try it out. But under protest.

the USA Today article seems to confirm that it's only 1 controller

Well, that's just fine and dandy, isn't it? :(

yeah i basically don't know what Reggie and crew are thinking with their US approach. Japan approach is nice - basically 200 without a pack-in game, and that's fine by me.

So..can we get Wiipoints for the VC games in other ways than paying directly for them? points offered when buying a new wii game?( like NOE's star catalogue)
