WildStar |OT| The biggest MMO since the Big Bang

Playing Engineer after having played Esper is such a breath of fresh air, no longer do I have to stand in one spot going 1,1,1,1,1,2 on every mob I encounter.

What's funny is I couldn't get into the Engineer because of the slow down in movement while in combat, yet I'm enjoying Esper. lol

If anyone has a guest pass they could share with me, I'd be grateful.

I've been wondering how the game is going to run on my machine, as the beta ran sluggish - hoping they made some improvements in the final build.

Well I made a Warrior and a Stalker and got them to level ten. It's probably too early to give a fair opinion but I found myself getting bored with the Warrior fast. Stalker was much more fun but I could feel the boredom setting in. I'm playing a Spellslinger now and finding it a lot more fun, plus I could go back to using a Chua. :-D

I'm not sure when I'm going to continue on with my Engineer.

So the Wilderrun Strain part has the shittiest respawn placement I've ever seen in a while. Would it have killed them to place a few more than just one for nearly the entire place?

Also fuck level 50 gankers, I know I'm in a PvP server but really? It should be standard in mmo that high level griefers should get some kind of penalty for doing what they do.

As a result of those two complaints I must have wasted a good hour doing something that should have taken at most half of that :/

Edit: Oh and since I can't connect and I'm cranky, fuck the person who decided Wilderrun Traps were a "fun thing to add to that zone".

Well i am enjoying this i signed back up for wow but wildstar might take me away from wow. Is level cap @ 50 right now ? I am assuming that takes time to get there sort of like reaching level 90 in wow.

I am leveling up a warrior - what other classes have good dps ? I am on pvp - widow - samcrw. Is there any other tips, grinding locations that might help .. lots of questions :)

It does take a fair bit of time to make it to 50. If you're counting all the boosts you get in WoW now at the older content, then maybe it's comparable, but it's a fair amount of difference between 50 and 90.

While all DPS classes are good, most people will say Warrior, Engineers and Stalkers are the best, with spellsinger very close behind for PvE. Lots of variable depending on the dungeon/raid/adventure you're running though. So just play the one dps whose playstyle you like the most.

For PvP Spellslingers and warriors are really great.

Wouldn't it be better to bind your left mouse to number 8? That way you free up number 1 by putting your starter on 8 allowing more of them closer to your fingertips? You could slide everything down a number and get your stun on 4.

I use Steer and SteerClear so my eight abilities are bound on buttons 1-4, Q(5) and E(6), LMB(7), RMB(8) when I have steer locked, but when I hit C which unlocks it both LMB and RMB go back to their default uses. With this setup the furthest I have to reach for any keypress is button 4.

Yeah that would work perfectly fine too, and probably be better overall. The reason I have it the way I do now is because when I first played the open beta I didn't use auto hotkeys and when I switched over to it I had trouble hitting the left mouse button instead of the 1 key. In combat I'd often find myself spamming both. The 1-5 key rotation is so engraved in my mind from WildStar and other mmos that it'd give me more trouble than it's worth to switch at this point. But I'd encourage anyone who'd like to try my method to make the key set up as you suggested.

Does pve maintain the classic holy trinity during Raids/Dungeons? As for pvp the areans range from 2v2 up to 5v5, is there plans for larger scale battleground besides arenas..

PvE has the trinity.

PvP there's 2,3 and 5s arenas, 2 10v10 battlegrounds and Warplots (40 v 40 base building PvP).

You can try reporting them, but i think that's a risk you sign up for when you roll on a PVP server.

For all their usability issues, i've heard that Espers are also strong DPS.

Wow... that's awesome.. how is the popularity. I'm only lvl 7 so far but I dont see many players in the zone I'm in. I read the raids are big and very very difficult which is awesome.

Did you do Crimelords? I think they nerfed the requirements, I've gotten gold on 30:01 and 32:30 runs.

Only requirement to get gold on Crimelords is to not die afaik (It's not possible to finish without the notoriety if you do that). It's been the easiest one since they buffed WotW for sure. WotW is easy again now too though, just has a few mildly annoying ways to fail gold is all.

Warrior is pretty boring until the 40's, then it picks up. Its going to get the nerf bat soon though, according to the latest Dev post on our forums (likely that power link and detonate will get a nerf). Tanking seems to be good right now, but still tons of garbage AMPS, stalkers have some sweet tanking ones. Stalkers are getting some minor buffs in their range and other small changes.

I know, won't bother reporting because surely there's more important matters and I'm not going to clog their system for griefers. I just got a bit pissy because the same dude killed me multiple times and since I needed to quest there there was nothing I could do about it. It's fine, I will just never understand what fun you get from killing without any challenge.

As I said, all DPS are good, it's just that right now (things are going to change in the future, for example I'm pretty sure engis are going to get nerfed again), Warriors, Engi and Stalkers are a bit better for PvE. Espers and Medic are fine.

So I just returened a quest to a robot in Malgrave and he said:
" You've made an impression on my software"

Many NPC dialogues in this game cracks me up.

The Strain - Ultra Drop Information

Although WildStar launched a mere week before E3 2014, that didn't mean the team didn't have exciting new things to talk about! In fact, Carbine President Jeremy Gaffney revealed the new content coming up at the end of the month. Fans, prepare yourself for the Strain!

If you think the moniker implies some hideous malady that results in freakish mutations, you're right on the money. From ferocious multi-fanged rowsdowers and giant gastrointestinal pustules to an emote that makes a purple alien mouth erupt from your chest, this new content created by the "intelligent virus" shows a whole new side of the planet Nexus. And I got a sneak peek of the new land, new dungeons, strain-infected gear, and other mutated goodies that await players in the Strain Ultradrop. As a bonus, we've even got the official trailer for you. WildStar: The Strain

Behold the Strain!

WildStar's first post-launch monthly update is going to be anything but a piddly little patch. "We've spent the last six months of beta training ourselves to do ginormous monthly updates," Gaffney said. "We've done huge updates [through beta] on purpose because when we're live, we want to be able to sustain a content pace that is ginormous." Strain will open up the two new zones (Blighthaven and Northern Wastes) and introduce new mechanics, new gear, and new housing items. As Gaffney said, "It's hours and hours of content."

Gaffney explained that since so many MMO players have seen and done it all, the team hopes to bring something fresh to WildStar with its updates instead of just higher levels of the same old, same old. For example, the new areas introduce new creatures, including freaky infected versions of familiar animals. These new creatures also have new mechanics and new attacks to throw at players for some added variety. Additionally, there are new quest mechanics like the ring challenge inside the goop-filled pustule of the Globellum. While you're swimming through it to collect rings, the pustule will randomly spit players out high into the air. This helps keep the challenge fresh each time it's attempted because there is no set path for beating it.

Getting in the zones

Blighthaven is a veteran zone, meant for players who have already reached level 50. Why is the first update focused on max-level content? Gaffney explained that the road of dead MMOs of the past is paved with games that had nothing for players to do once they reached max level.

The two faction's hubs are placed very close together, so players will find opportunities to PvP if that is their focus. For PvE content, Gaffney reminded me that the first area in the zone is mostly solo, pointing out that "60 to 65% of people in the U.S. tend to play massively single-player games." That is also why the team is focused on regular updates, since this group consumes content so quickly. About 50% of the zone is dedicated to the solo and small-group playstyle.

But solo isn't the only playstyle, and it isn't the only playstyle the team supports. Gaffney argued that having features that encourage others to make friends in game is a bonus, saying, "We love it when people play together because once you make friends that's what makes games stick. You want to play the games your friends are playing. Anything we can do to encourage social interaction, we do."

The next part of the zone, The Nursery, has tougher creatures and features five-man open content, then the final area is geared for 20-man groups. The Nursery offers challenges that are perfect for five-man pick-up groups, as opposed to dungeons that are better handled by premades teams. The is a variety of sub-wings for players to fight through, each one based on a different primal element (fire, air, logic) and with different mechanics (biohazards, anyone?), bosses, and sub-bosses on top of very different visuals. Each sub-wing that is cleared lowers the defenses on the final end boss, the Eldan Elyona the Mad. Gaffney called The Nursery a "good learning experience for five-man groups [that] are working together for the first time."

The 20-man area is a public event set in a tower defense-style map called Guardians of the Grove. Players can set up three basic types of defenses: one that attacks the waves of monsters coming on, one that controls or slows them, and one that does nothing except offer more and better loot. The event is broken into phases, starting with the opportunity to set up the defense before the onslaught. In another phase, the event actually shifts, and players become the attackers and have to storm the tower to take it back. There are mechanics to help players call others others to the different quadrants as needed.

Unlike Blighthaven, Northern Wastes is set up with the two faction's hubs at opposite ends of the map, bringing the PvP clash to the middle. This zone is also set up with the same solo, five-man, and 20-man content formulae. One unique aspect of this zone is that the team is actually considering making it open PvP on all servers so that it offers a PvP experience for everyone.

I had no idea we were going to get that much new content right away, thought it was only 1 zone the way they originally talked. Had NO idea it had 5 man and 20 man content included also =O

Well they said they'll be toning down our burst, which let's be honest, is needed. Our burst every minute (our innate ability's cool down) is a bit much. They also said they'd be taking a look at the underused skills and amps.

I would hope that while they nerf our burst, they increase our sustained damage. Our damage outside of our 5 second burst is pathetic.

Yup, I'm not holding my breath though. I would say increasing breaching strike or tremor's damage would do a solid for us though. Taking breach strike off the GCD would be amazing. Also do not know the point of savage strikes.

Oh I thought it had a time limit. WotW has screwed me twice now with terrible objectives, but I'll probably try it again tonight

Oh, they've been stating this for a bit. One a month till like September, and then dunno past that other than they weren't going to do a Big Patch every 4-9 months.

War of the Wilds bugged?

+5 k/d ratio, all totems, both objectives done, no gold. Has anyone gotten more than one gold using the same strategy within the last few days? Really trying to get some epic weapons before I dive into dungeons but it seems impossible to get gold, unless they changed requirements to have a timer now or something.

I just started playing this a few days ago and I'm really having fun with this game. But I'd really like to get on and on some GAF guild action. So what I'd really like to know is what's the best server to play on to play with others around here if I'm gaming on Japan Standard time?

It's just rare for me to get into melee classes in these type of games. I always go for the pet class or a ranged class. Neverwinter is actually the only MMO where I've really gotten into the melee classes.

Glad they're going to be banning some bots tonight!

Was 1 death away from gold on Crimelords of Whitevale. There always seems to be one DPS who doesn't wait for the tank and gets himself one shot in the 2nd to last bosses ship.

I'm itching to make an alt, but i know it would slow down my gear progression. I must resist playing a Medic or Warrior.

Picked this up today, playing a Stalker on Widow. Having a lot of fun so far and the Strain event looks promising. Any tips while questing/leveling?

You jinxed me, seems I've been wrongly flagged as using a third party program. Submitted a ticket but probably wont be able to log on tomorrow :(

Is there any chance this will get a price drop during the steam sale? I dropped my sub on FFXIV and this looks like a fun MMO to waste some time on.

The Strain is coming after at least 6/30, right? I still have time to level fairly casually (I'm at 31)?

I really prefer the feel of my dinosaur mount than the hover board if I don't have to go over water. Is it just me?
