WindowsCentral: Xbox is quietly building a cloud gaming dominance that could see it lead a $40 billion industry in just ten years

2024 and MS still relying on the cloud to lead them to gaming dominance. First it was going to power their consoles now it's just going to be the way people play games.

Last time I used xcloud, I was in a queue to start playing a game. Its garbage. The last time i tried sonys cloud was ages ago, when it was still called ps now. It was still better than what xcloud is now.

xCloud's bitrate is still limited at 15Mb/s.

I use the service from the beginning and I don't see the commitment required for that.

Latest Powerpoint about Xbox's bright future from the MS HQ. Never in doubt. So far always wrong.

So how many think Nintendo will continue to be awesome with archaic hardware and mostly physical sales? Apparently not the MBAs at the MS HQ. So tiresome.

Ive never done cloud gaming and have no interest to. I dont even like using my laptop wi-fi but have to due to where it is vs. my router. I like all my gadgets and software wired or installed as much as possible.

So I actually have no experience with cloud gaming. Just cloud saved files I guess.

But I'm not feeling the cloud thing. All I remember is Xbox cloud demo of a building crumbling to the ground 10 years ago boosted by cloud power. Meh.

Hey, maybe cloud gaming is awesome with barely noticeable lag. So if i try it maybe I'll like it. But I get a feeling I wont.

  • A recent report from the firm shared to us describes how the cloud gaming market (that Bloomberg describes as cloud streaming gaming or CSG) could expand to become a $40 billion industry in the next ten years.
And during the weed craze 6 years ago, I remember anaylsts saying by now the global market for cannabis would hit $250 billion sales. So load up. Since then, most companies went broke, or merged due to desperation, and I dont think any of them make money. All penny stocks now. Googling it, most links say the global market is around $20-30B now.

Great job. Estimates were off by 90%.

Good Luck...
This is why I see them as a content provider. Nvidia partnership. Only way unless msft is trolling via actibliz merger when the issue was brought up that they will have all the parts needed to dominate cloud and msft made a case they are not the best cloud service. Aka the market will be open and it’s not decided for cloud.

Yeah, no. Although we all laugh, from what I remember this might even be conservative relative to what the CMA were predicting during the Activision deal.

Yeah, again, NeoGaf experts, should all be sending CVs to Reuters/Bloomberg. These agencies know nothing. Obviously think like Reuters Eikon or Bloomberg Terminal are such a niche tools for investors as well /s

…and I know they are not always right.

I use cloud computing at work. I manage to get work done, but at no point did I feel the cloud HELPED me in any way. There is just a constant lag when ever I do anything, like i am somehow back in the 90's with Windows 95.

Cloud computing is great for Microsoft; they just couldn't find a way to make gaming customers to accept it because it sucks for games.

”Next year is the year things will turn around for Xbox!”

…has been replaced with:

”Next decade is the decade things will turn around for Xbox!”

Fans, jump ship, get a PC, invest in Steam, use Geforce Now if you absolutely need cloud gaming. If you’re already invested in Gamepass, add the Gamepass games you want to play to your Steam library.

are in a big trouble
I've said it once and I'll say it again Microsoft are trying to be the Netflix of gaming just because cloud sucks now does not mean it will not be a thing in the future.

People said that Netflix 4K wasn't an option over 10 years ago. They said the same things don't have the bandwidth not every country will be able to Bla Bla Bla. Yet here we are 4k cable TV and 4k Netflix.

TV show consumption it's not the same as videogame consumption, it isn't working now and it wont work in the future. Honestly only a mentally handicapped individual would believe in a glorify rental store on the Cloud

Probably smarter people than us thought it was a good idea to buy Activision and at that time Xbox was already dead. They did it for long term plans.
I think we get one more console gen (but without disc drives) and then it'll be streaming only. I hope not though.

Cloud gaming just isn't for me. If that's the future of gaming then count me out.
I don't see the appeal of paying to stream games. It's like a shit rental service. No thank you.
It really isn't for us.

Its for the new generation of kids who really aren't into gaming and their parents while watching YouTube on television switches to Xbox App and let them play...Fallguys or whatever.

I have seen first hand that's the only universe these kids know. Roblox runs on laptop while YouTube is only available on TV.
