Not really about this season's anime, but apparently half the dvd's I ever bought were bootleg. Now I have to rebuy Cowboy Bebop for a third time, and if they release it on blu-ray, a fourth. Goddamn bootleggers and my lack of knowledge when buying shit off ebay years ago.

Durarara! - fuck awesome,baccano nostalgia!!!

Baka test - Alright but that squeaky voice for himeji is annoying.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Durarara!: It has a lot to live up to, not as strong as Baccano! outright but it has room to grow.

Vampire Bund: Was promised naked lolis. Did not deliver. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing.

What? What school do you go to that a Japanese TV company would go to the extent to specifically target it?

I go to Dalhousie in Nova Scotia. Yeah, I thought it was weird too, but apparently they have hired some other company(BayTSP?) to just tag anyone downloading torrents of their shows and send out bitchy emails. I mean, it's not like they're losing any viewership because of me, or something. Oh well, it sucks.

Despite its subject matter, the first episode was actually not as ecchi-ecchi-moe-moe as you might think.

Junior High girls wear their P.E. clothes under their uniforms, BTW. I think it's because of the daily school cleaning time.

I did get flashed once shortly after I'd just started teaching. I was outside the school, and heard "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii~!" Looked up, and there was a girl on the second floor balcony, skirt blowing up in the wind, not wearing P.E. shorts underneath.

I wanted to go and tell a teacher, but then I realized how bad that would have seemed. "I saw a student wearing uh...inappropriate underwear!" o_O "And why do you know this?" :lol

That's why this anime is evil! It needs to stay the way it is!

Yeah it is quite different working at a high school with mostly girls(commercial high school). The teachers have to walk around slapping their legs because they just sit improperly and flash the entire room. Having little to no boys means absolutely no shyness or shame haha.

Hey if you enjoy moe anime where the point of it is girl's looking cute as much as possible in every scene then good for you. Personally I find it to be pure shit.

It's kind of sad that character design similarities will make what little fan base of anime disregard it completely.. ironic.

Baka to Test to Shokanju hmm didn't seem all that funny and not big into the yugioh/battling for better classes theme.

Durarara! Haven't seen Baccano so no expectations besides people expecting it to be good, so far so-so from what I understand Baccano was multiple pov like Rashomon.
Horo!

Vampire Bund hard to tell but looks interesting so far.

Just because you don't find it funny doesn't mean other ppl can't

I'm sure no one cares about the American anime industry, but two dudes from Funimation were on the ANN podcast this week and a couple of interesting tidbits came up.

Big Windup bombed and they're not bothering with S2 (yay fansubs I guess).

But for me, the interesting bit was that they sort of passed the buck on why their Blu-Ray upscales look bad, saying that they can only work with what they are given as the source.

Diebuster was totally a moe animu.

Yeah, they also mentioned that:

- Spice & Wolf is doing well
- One Piece is doing good enough (they're also trying to get it back on TV)
- The When They Cry (Higurashi) boxset is selling well at cons. Mentioned when asked about Kai and Umineko. So yeah, buy it guys :D

But that is like the list of crappy anime I don't want to do well. :O

Never seen Spice & Wolf yet, but I choose to be prejudgemental without base.

Durarara!!, I'm enjoying it. Looks like it will be the sole series I'll be following this season.

Durarara Was okay I guess. I'm not sure where this is going, but I'm intrigued by the setting. Those chat segments confused me, though. They were supposed to take place before the main character came to Tokyo, right?

Sora no woto Surprisingly good. I wish it was more on the comedy-side with all the K-On-ification going on, though... D: But that's just me.

Vampire Bund Interesting. No real feelings for it yet, but I can see this becoming good.

Chu bra, Ladies vs Butlers I think I can watch some episodes of these occasionally. I'm sure I wont finish either of these shows, though.

Spice and Wolf is an odd show. It's a fantasy show, without much action, and main story line is about economics (currency devaluations and market fluctuation). But ti works. There's only 2 main characters (few guest characters pop up now and then), and they play very well off each other.

Durarara!! - First episode is mainly setup since there's a ton of characters all moving around and sometimes interacting with each other, much like Bacano. Right now it's a bit difficult to see where it's going, but that's not really a problem right now. Anyway, the first episode was really good. There were a lot of characters, some that look rather interesting, and a bit of mystery added in. The story is about a highschool kid who has never once left his home town and then transfer to Ikebukoro to go to school with a guy that knew several years ago. But that's just the surface, there's a lot going on beneath that and it looks like a good setup for some awesomeness. Here's the kicker: animu is a minimum, fanservice is zilch, and moe-loli is not found here.

Baka to Test to Shokanjou - It's a highschool comedy show about a guy who's an idiot that's in love with a ditzy girl that's actually really smart. By any and all accounts this show should be not unlike many such horrifyingly awful shows that have polluted every anime season for the past decade, only...it's not. Somehow, despite everything against it, it's actually a really funny show that doesn't take itself seriously, isn't predicated on fanservice, and despite leaning on a few cliches still manages to feel far fresher than a lot of other shows out there.

What sets is apart is this: the show is built around all of the students being segregated into different classes based on their test results. The smart kids get a really awesome room with computers and sofas, the dumb kids get a room that's falling apart and have to sit on straw mats. In order for the dumb kids to get a better class room, they have to defeat that higher classes and take their rooms away through a virtual reality program that creates summoned beings based on tests scores.

It's kind of animu, but actually not in a totally bad way!

Think of it as a show that's vaguely similar to the Before Sunrise(and I assume Before Sunset, though I haven't seen it) movies. The story is very simple on its own, but the show's charm lies in the chemistry and banter between the two main characters.

Spice and Wolf is probably one of the best Romances I've seen in such a long time.

It did have moe elements but it didn't drive the entire ova series based on it unlike K-On which was all moe nothing more. It's like every scene they wanted to make some fat otaku guy wearing a moe shirt say "that was soooo moeeeeeeee". ugh :lol

Anyways enough of crap anime. Spice and Wolf is a great series.

yea that is deceptive, why bother selling blu-rays when it amounts to upscaling dvd content?

Yeah, it sort of makes the blu-rays pointless now. If it really does come down to how the shows were originally animated, then blu-rays will always be upscales and not true HD.

WRONG! Just look! The girl on the left has her hairclip on one side, and the other has it on the other side. And if you look closely, the white highlights in the eyes have been reversed.

For your pleasure, So Ro No Wo To.... K-ON Edition!
2m76d0w.jpg

Why is the Character in So Ro have just part of her hair so long and the rest so short? Someone needs to get a better haircut.
EDIT: Oh I see, that is actually Yui after they cut and dyed her hair, hence that piece being there.
EDIT2: Changed pigment of the skin to ensure maximum K-ON.

But to give an answer: No, nothing. The best thing from the more recent past was Casshern Sins. But ever since Death Note, Claymore and Kaiji were finished, anime sucked. If youre not into Moe, that is...

I still don't know if this idea is really bad or really awesome. :lol Maybe I should give the first ep a chance to clear things up
realizing how shitty this show is.

Durarara!! has some promise. Quite well done in general, but the brief action sequences were underwhelming and the protagonist is already by far the most irritating character (as per the norm in anime).

As I was rather bored yesterday, I decided to take the inevitable and check out the newest animation epic from Gainax, Hanamaru Kindergarden... yeah.

Don't get me wrong, it's from Gainax. Everything from Gainax must be good, right? Who knows, if this turns out to be some great mecha series by the end of the episode. Well, I was wrong, so wrong.

The plot is your average moe-blob plot. The protagonist has just started working as a kindergarden teacher, causes some ruckus, meets his beautiful co-worker and his senpai from High-School. It doesn't sound that bad yet, I mean this plot has just been used millions of times before, but at least it's ok.
Well, let's spice things up a bit! Presumably, senpais child takes the liking of the protagonist and decides to marry him. I don't know about you, but someting tells me that our hero has some trouble ahead!

I have no idea how the plot continues in manga, but someting tells me that I really don't want to watch this. *Goes to wikipedia*

It is mainly about a kindergarten girl who is in love with her teacher and tries to win his affection but always fails.
Oh, I see.

Oh yeah, the whole episode was filled with moe-full moments, I guess...

Well, while forcing myself to watch the episode thoroughly. I found myself constantly asking myself, why is Gainax doing this, why do the children look like Nendoroids, why is Gainax doing this and why in the hell am I watching this? I couldn't find an answer to those questions. No matter how hard I tried.

On the other hand, Durarara!! was pretty interesting. Interesting enough for me to tune in next week too. Baka to Test was rather enjoyable watch too, I'll check out the next episode to see how it turns out.

Seems that, I'll keep watching Durarara!! and not the newest animation epic from Gainax.

Still haven't seen the 1st episode. I don't really like the leading group subbing the series, but I'll eventually bite if there isn't anyone else I like subbing Qwaser.

Question about the Kindergarten show... in Japan, it's alright for teachers to marry and impregnate a student? Because I think that was the most disturbing part of the whole thing. :lol
