Wow... This has been my most/least productive year, anime watching-wise. I've kept track of the amount of Series, OVAs, and Movies I've watched since I started (keeping track on MAL, that is).

2008: 19
2009: 10
2010: 4
2011: 29
2012: 22
2013: 48

And I thought I would never beat 2011. Whoops. I have clearly too much free time.

Why does it not exist!? The manga series is great.

I watched that God-awful SAO Extra and now I'm just angry. Further proof that god-damned series should have ended at Episode 14. If you end up being held hostage in an MMO for several years, going back is THE LAST THING YOU FUCKING DO EVER, YOU IDIOT.

Good stuff. Orange's definitely at the top of their game. I can agree with you in that so far Akito himself isn't a particularly interesting guy, but he can make a couple of amusing offhand remarks and does have some intriguing circumstances surrounding him. The other characters (and mainly Leila) are starting to get some needed focus too. The setting is coming across nicely, albeit I think the Britannian side of things isn't quite completely established. Overall, I suppose this is meant to be more of an ensemble, even within the limitations of the chosen format.

Speaking of which...I don't know if it's optimistic to expect that there won't be more delays for the last two entries, but I'm not getting my hopes up about episode 3 meeting the target.

That's true, the tone is significantly somber and darker. But there is a fair bit of the theatricality that Valvrave didn't quite get, as well as a number of elements and ideas beyond just the Geass power that definitely place it in the same universe. I think Akito manages to be different while still complementing the original series in a few ways. Which is probably going to be even more true whenever the next episode comes around. I'd say the director did do his homework, so to speak, and has found a balance rather than secretly making Gundam fanfiction under another label. Thus I believe you'll still get more out of it by actually liking Code Geass than if you otherwise don't.

Wish I could have seen Otome act, because her personality is pretty much the ultimate antithesis of basically any drama role. It probably ain't for her.

Yeah. Kirito pretty much looks like a loser to the MC in Mahouka. I also think the MC in Mahouka is a breathing and walking inconsistency in that universe. Literally a walking Deus ex Machina and whatever bullshit you can think of.

I get what they were going for with the genre switch up, but it just really did nothing for me. Samurai Flamenco was at its most fun when it hit this intersection between these serial action shows and how that translates into a more harsh reality. This played everything extremely straight, and even the jokes didn't help to break the mold at all because they were all super meta and still knee deep in the topic. As a loving sort of parody the show works...but this doesn't feel like parody at all. Without that going for it Samurai Flamenco is just a really ugly show with bad designs and rote action sequences. The characters feel like they are growing more and more distant to. Any emotional moments seem to just be missing, and they have all kind of completely slotted into spewing their associated dogma.

Did over 10k sales IIRC, Index movie and Railgun II did well too. J.C.staff ain't gonna let their cash cow franchise go to waste and they don't want to let another Shana 3 situation where they waited too long and it bombed.
