yeah. it pretty much vanished from discussion. i doubt many people realized he was deadpool before.

Yeah, I'd say most probably didn't realize that was Deadpool.

My friend's response was basically "That Mortal Kombat Baraka character in Wolverine Origins was supposed to be Deadpool?! WTF?!" with a mixture of shock and horror on his face

R-rated, cult character, spin-off of the reviled X-men Origins: Wolverine film, given a minuscule budget, starring a guy with a huge chain of box office bombs, first-time director, no 3D ticket prices.... beating Batman and Superman at the domestic box office.

Truly, completely insane.
spelled out like that it is pretty crazy lol

Could you imagine saying this three months ago? I remember people being convinced that the movie would fail and even saying it could do decent or even be anything but a bad movie was met with criticism.
I was convinced it will do very well, whats with the positive vibes. Finishing it within budget, happy crews, strong grassroot support from fans etc.

I just didnt expect it to do that well.

Disney one. I hate this necrophilia trend of theirs, when they not only stopped producing 2D animations, but are digging up the corpses of classics and mutilating them with live action adaptations.

They have been well executed and If they help pays for new films like Zootopia then more power to them. Jungle Book ooks good, but their run will probably stop at Tim Burton Dumbo.

Social media would have fucking OBLITERATED wolverine origins and its depiction of deadpool if that film was released today.

BvS has NOTHING on that trash.

I'm surprised that Wolverine Origins did as well as it did given that the entire film (minus a few finished sfx) leaked online 6 weeks before release.

Origins was the first major post-TDK superhero movie. Believe me, it was obliterated to the full extent of what it deserved and then some.

Actually ended at 2.84 million Wednesday. Deadpool did 3.8 million with a 56% drop from it's first Wednesday. BvS did 8.1 million so it will be dropping 65% I think?

its first wen was 8.1 mil. deadpool went from 8.6 to 3.7, f7 went from 9.1 to 2.9, mos went from 9 to 4.1, and to throw it in here zoo went from 3.7 to 4.6

Thanks to both.
So, yeah, Deadpool is seriously risking to out-gross BvS domestically in the long run. Insane.

Also it might not mean much but Deadpool is coming out in Japan this summer.

But yeah Deadpool did these numbers without China.

Doubt that many people remembered that movie much less deadpool in it.

Anecdotal, but in the Deadpool movie, when Wade looked at the XMen Origins Deadpool action figure, my entire theater burst out laughing. It went over as well as any other joke in the movie.

The Deadpool movie spun it's trash into gold.

Man, if this film doesn't beat Spectre...

EDIT: Okay, let's play the schadenfreude game. Ice Age: Continental Drift made $877m, Catching Fire $865m, Revenge of the Sith $848m, Breaking Dawn Part 2 $829m.

China is getting Civil War day and date with the domestic release. That weekend will be massive. Too bad the film opening a week early in many territories takes Civil War out of record contention.

Edit: Thursday previews were 985k for the Boss and 380k for Hardcore Henry.

Deadline has BvS at $2.7 yesterday, down 65% from last week. Probably looking at a similar drop for the weekend.

Some schools were still out last week, so I don't think the weekend will be down quite that badly.

65% third weekend drop would be worse than Watchmen.

Thor to Thor 2 growth!

So BvS is playing more like a MoS sequel than a movie with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman?

Wonder if Civil War will play more like a Cap sequel than an Avengers film with Spider-Man? I doubt it, I seriously doubt it, but we'll see.

Batman v Superman is down another 77% this Friday in China.

Opening Friday was just shy of $20M. Third Friday estimate is around $625k.

Cap 3 was doing a billion off the strength of Iron Man alone.

Throw in Spidey and a bunch of other Avengers and I think it makes a billion with relative ease.

My thinking is, last week's cratering was in the withering face of zero competition, while it's getting some (tepid) competition this week, which will eat into it a bit. 60-65% would still be a bit better than last weekend's drop.
