I thought I read somewhere that it was tracking 70 million opening weekend? I saw it Friday night and it was much better than Origins. It didn't blow me away though.

That was based on Thursday night screenings. Friday's earnings were MUCH lower than Fox anticipated. They were thinking mid- to high 30s. It only pulled in 21.

Rothman's shitty decision-making coming home to roost.

I updated the Weekend Top 10 above with the values that were missing. Despicable Me 2 crossed $300M. Grown Ups 2 crossed $100M.

Can Lone Ranger be considered a bigger flop than John Carter? Or was Carter's marketing budget much bigger than Ranger's?

Maybe? The Lone ranger is going to finish with $100M less worldwide, but John Carter cost more.

Pacific Rim:
Domestic: $84,026,000
Foreign: $140,000,000
Worldwide: $224,026,000

I guessed $225M as of today on Wednesday or Thursday. Pretty close.

Not a sharp drop from last week's foreign numbers. It's still has yet to open in China and Japan, too.

edit: Beaten on PR numbers.

Despicable Me 2 > Man of Steel after this weekend?

Second only to Iron Man 3 for highest grossing movie of the year, I believe.

The Conjuring's numbers are pretty insane. It's on pace to be one of the highest grossing R rated horror movie in recent times.

Despicable Me 2 > Man of Steel after this weekend?

Fast Six is at 740m. .

Can't believe World War Z actually salvaged its box office run. Any word on whether Paramount is moving forward with a sequel? I wasn't all that impressed, but there are some good ideas and Brad Pitt has talked about mining the book for more.

The Wolverine:
Domestic: $55,000,000
Foreign: $86,100,000
Worldwide: $141,100,000

Despicable Me 2:
Domestic: $306,400,000
Foreign: $354,500,000
Worldwide: $660,900,000

R.I.P.D.:
Domestic: $24,400,000
Foreign: $12,700,000
Worldwide: $37,100,000

World War Z:
Domestic: $192,600,000
Foreign: $280,400,000
Worldwide: $473,000,000

This is easily the biggest surprise for me--they're going to actually break even or squeak out a profit on that production mess, aren't they? The movie itself wasn't bad, but everything leading up to it had me convinced it would bomb anyway.

At first glance that seems like a solid opening take for Wolverine, but when you look at what stuff like Iron Man, Batman and even Man of Steel pulled in, I wonder if Fox is concerned that they have essentially taken one of the most popular comic characters on the planet and turned him into a B-tier superhero franchise. A Wolverine done right should be pulling in huge numbers, no? I know people hate reboots but maybe it's time to move on from Jackman.

I feel like its more of a response to the first Wolverine movie, similarly how Batman Begins box-office was hurt by people's memory of Batman and Robin.
