I mean I can understand this if their grosses were going to be close. But when it is all said and done SW will have run circles around JW. Topping 800 mil (possibly close to 900 mil) and beating Avatar for the #1 spot domestically towers above the surprise that was the JW gross.

I guess it depends on how you look at things.

Revenge of the Sith made close to $850M worldwide, was the top domestic film, and was the #2 WW film of 2005. Even after 10 years, it's still in the domestic top 25 and the worldwide top 50 (At its peak it was #7 domestic and #11 Worldwide).

Jurassic Park 3 made less than $370M WW in 2001, was the #9 film of the year domestically and the #8 film of the year worldwide. It is currently the 200th highest grossing domestic film and just outside the top 250 worldwide.

A lot of people were predicting a big uptick for Jurassic World worldwide, but with the exception of the Phantom Menace all of the Star Wars films were Top 10 of all time films (or close to it) upon their release. I think the large majority of people expected The Force Awakens to follow suit, even if they expected $2B to be out of reach, or Age of Ultron to be even bigger. On the other hand, some people were doubting that Jurassic World would even crack $500-700M worldwide in earlier GAF threads.

nah the overabundant Red Baron stuff wasn't all that entertaining.

The Red Baron stuff was the only entertaining part of the film.

Everything else felt like a clip show of other Peanuts animated features. It looked gorgeous but felt bland and uninspired outside of the animation during the Red Baron sequences.

I wasn't expecting higher than 37, so 39 would be crazy. Anyone remember what Rth's first projection for Tuesday was?
36-38 pretty sure. Well not direct projection but another user made that prediction and Rth said good guess, and people went with that.

As much as I'll gripe about The Force Awakens playing it too safe, The Peanuts Movie arguably plays it even safer.
Was rather underwhelmed despite the fact that they nailed the look and the casting.
All it did was make me wish for a modern equivalent of Snoopy, Come Home, Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown and Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!).
Plus, Linus was shafted when it came to screen time.

Okay, thanks. That makes sense because I don't know anyone who isn't going to be having dinner somewhere with either friends or family tonight either. Lol.

Even Avatar dropped 32% on Christmas Eve. Speaking of that though, TFA is acting a lot like Avatar this week.

This movie's box office performance is a Mary Sue.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I was hesitant at first to state that TFA would outgross Avatar as I believed the film would be much more frontloaded - the force has showed me otherwise.

Coincidentally enough, Avatar is the only major film to launch the same weekend as TFA did (third weekend in December) and have Xmas land on a Friday in recent times.

Here were Avatar's first set of Weekdays, followed by the second weekend:

Mon - $16,385,820 (-33.8%)
Tues - $16,086,461 (-1.8%)
Wed - $16,445,291 (+2.2%)
Thurs - $11,150,998 (-32.3%)
Fri - $23,095,046 (+107.1%)
Sat - $28,274,406 (+22.4%)
Sun - $24,247,681 (-14.2%)

Here is TFA so far

Mon - $40,109,742 (-33.8%)
Tues - $37,361,729 (-6.9%)
Wed - $37M-39M? (-1.0% to 4.3%)?

The crazy thing is that it's performing like a backloaded film while coming off of the biggest opening weekend of all time. Maybe we should just say its loaded?

I mean, you figure there has to be a wall at some point where diminishing returns starts to rear its head. Unless literally everyone really does see this movie 3+ times.

Hell I'm already fighting the temptation to go see the movie in theaters a third time, something I have never done before.

fuck him, hope Ridley and Boyega are getting a nice cut as they had a gross participation too IIRC

Given the fact that they are nobodies and Ford settled for 0.5% (in addition to his close to $25M paycheck), I would be shocked if they are sharing more than 0.5% between them.

Still, 0.25% is going to end up being at least $5M, so that wouldn't be too bad. Even 0.1% will end up being over $2M.

Their percentage is probably something pathetic given the $300.000 salary they got. A pathetic percentage to such an enormous gross like this one should still give them some good money though lol
