Eh, I think that kind of worked in reverse. I don't think First Class really got her any extra attention one way or the other. But, boy, I'm sure Fox was happy that they had her signed into the franchise after Hunger Games hit big and now she has obviously getting promoted heavily in X-Men films.

She was heavily in the trailers for First Class by the time they got to the second one. They knew they had something when they hired her. They arguably didn't know how much of something they had until Hunger Games hit (and it's probably why she's a much more pivotal character in DOFP).

There's been many advancements in microscope technology since you left high school, I'm sure it's well within the range of plausibility now.

Looks like this thread is a Mary Sue.

The post count boost was unearned. One week I am talking to myself for 3-4 posts in a row and then out of nowhere the thread is an almost permanent 1st page fixture on the OT.

Where's the consistency with past posting on big 2015 opening weekend threads?

I dunno, but I think it's definitely worth it's own thread now that most users here have seen it and can have a mix of various opinions on it. Plus, it would've clogged the Spoiler Thread on that aspect alone.

I thought we were talking about box office prospects. Most of the actors we are discussing have had very good critical notices and successful careers. But few people can actually propel that into reliably opening movies.

I'm just saying that she had critical acclaim and then attached her name to a big franchise (X-Men). I think she ends up right where she is with or without The Hunger Games. Both Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle were critical and box office successes.

I get where you're coming from.

Someone told me this is where the cool kids hang out. I showed up and now I'm very disappointed.

Disney and Universal are going to have 42-43% of this year's domestic box office between them.

That will probably top the combined share of Warner Bros, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate, and Paramount.

2015 Universal and 2015 Disney will have the first and second best annual performance by a studio in domestic box office history. Previous record was $2.1B by Warner Bros in 2009.

Catching up on a lot of discussion here so decided to be that very late to the party dude who everyone wants to leave already.

1990. Used to see Star Wars stuff referenced and lampooned all the time. Got to the point where I wanted to watch them. My dad rented the tapes for me and I've been a fan ever since.

Transformers 1 isn't OK as much much as I din't think it was really, really bad? I dunno. Haven't seen it since it came out and never really had the desire to watch it or it's sequels since. Sometimes I end up catching a scene or two on TV, lose interest quick and then change the channel. Never really had any real reaction to them.

And damn at those numbers. As big as Star Wars was obviously going to be I thought it would maybe but not really get near Avatar's domestic number and do very well worldwide, but I didn't expect it to be on track to reaching closer to a billion domestically. Still don't think it will reach Avatar's WW number since the circumstances and event spectacle of Avatar is very hard to come by.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Has anyone seen the Big Short yet? Critics are great, and plus it has Brad Pitt starring in it, bonus!

Edit: Oops, just realized it expanded wide today so might not be the most opportune time for that question

The international so far isn't strong enough (and the exchange rate doesn't help) to really make beating Titanic worldwide a lock.

China will help, but I don't have a lot of confidence China's gonna be the site of a huge box-office blowout with this film, either.

It'll become #1 domestic, I don't think that's even really in question anymore. It will beat Avatar on that front.

Which is still kinda weird to say.

Oh I feel you. I am a middle easterner and I can definitely tell you that Star Wars isn't big round these parts, definitely not as much as it is everywhere else. Although this movie is getting better word of mouth here than I've ever heard when it comes to Star Wars(Yes, even the OT).

Don't sequels usually do better globally? All this talk of Episode VIII not being able to match this run overall is true, but it'll probably end up a bigger earner outside of the US at least.

Not sure if this was posted, but Rth is projecting $37-39M for Wednesday. That probably means $1B is a foregone conclusion.

Other 2015 box office trivia.

Ant-man made more than any film WB put out this year* (domestic and Worldwide).

The Force Awakens will likely make more than all of 2015's Superhero films combined worldwide.

Pixar will have their first film under $150M domestic in their 20 year history of making feature films.

*Counting American Sniper as a 2014 film.

100/100 in back-to-back weekends on Fandango, never happened before.

LOS ANGELES - December 23, 2015 - "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is powering up for a second historic weekend at the top of Fandango's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator with a rare 100 out of 100 points. The top Fanticipation ranking has only appeared four times previously since Fandango started ranking films in 2013, and has never appeared in back-to-back weeks for the same movie.

It's happening, isn't it

The irony of this movie getting hit with complaints that it is too much like A New Hope, it is sure copying what A New Hope did box office wise in 1977.
