I have no frame of reference for these daily totals -- I assume TFA is breaking records left and right, but what's the total projection looking to be? #3 all-time?

It will be the top domestic earner ever, but is unlikely to top Avatar's world wide take. But we'll have a much better picture on that after this weekend.
The real question is: do you think this movie was good enough for that?
The only thing I can see pushing WB towards fast tracking another Mad Max is if it does well at the oscars, and even then it's a long shot. If only 2015 had been a better year for them...Problem is WB is going to see their great films in 2015 failing to light the world on fire yet see stuff standard franchise material like BvS and the Harry Potter spin-off do great next year.
They won't be green-lighting 2015 type of films any time soon after that. Oh well.

TFA currently holds 28 records. Check it out here
Somewhere Trevorrow sits alone; laughing, waiting.By the end, JW will only hold on to 3 of its 11 remaining records.
Is TFA the most expensive movie to ever be made?
It certainly felt like it...

They didn't seem to spend a lot of the actors' salaries in this movie. The visuals and the amount of sets and the amount of action is in this movie is not like anything I have ever seen before.I don't think so. I think one of the Pirates movies or some such takes that honor.
Budget wise not really, but the marketing probably is one of the biggest in history
With just a week and a half left until the film’s debut, one might wonder just how much Disney has spent on advertising so far. Although the company has not released a budget, sources close to the matter told the Wall Street Journal that the expenses, as the newspaper summarizes, are “slightly lower than what studios typically put into would-be blockbusters.”
http://fortune.com/2015/12/08/star-wars-marketing/Tie-ins with a host of other brands are buoying interest in the series on behalf of Disney as well. Seven official partnering companies, like Verizon and Proctor & Gamble, have contributed $38 million in direct advertising, according to the Journal and iSpot.tv. And other companies such as Walmart and Electronic Arts have indirectly added another $51 million by selling products blazoned with the franchise’s name. (That’s to say nothing of the press attention, too.)

Good time to own Disney stock, I'd say.
I see you, gfex. I see you.
I feel like the marketing budget might be more normal than we think, especially since a lot of the marketing was accompanied by deals with third party companies. The marketing budget might be, but production budget no. I think the fourth Pirates movie is still the biggest as it cost over $400m.

OS numbers will be lower for 24th and 25th I guess due to Christmas but once the second weekend comes, oh boy.
Does Christmas Day not get the same boost overseas as it does in North America?
The Force Re-Awakened? You saw that movie twice right?
I know. Seeing a second time show the true power of that movie

Sorry that was confusing.
I mean Mad Max.
I loved TFA but Mad Max is one of the best movies I have seen in a decade.
Pirates did look spectacular as well. The marketing budget might be, but production budget no. I think the fourth Pirates movie is still the biggest as it cost over $400m.

200 million production budget
200 million marketing budget rumored
Movie studios routinely invest $50 million in marketing upcoming releases in the United States and a little more abroad, the Journal notes, with most of that amount devoted to television.
So far, Disney had doled out about $17 million on TV ads, the Journal reports, citing data from the research firm iSpot.tv that extends through midday Monday, although the firm said it expects that figure to ramp up in the home stretch. For comparison, movie studios pushing other films with high ad budgets, such as Mad Max and Mission Impossible, spent about $30 million, or about twice as much, the Journal said, citing the same database.
I posted about the marketing budget earlier this page...
TFA had a ~$200m budget and a lower than usual marketing budget. Disney played their cards right.
Shit, I'm sorry. You absolutely did, I skidded right over.
First post on Christmas and I botched it. I did just get out of the Peanuts Movie second run, guess I brought a little Charlie Brown in here with me.
I posted about the marketing budget earlier this page. No hard figures but Disney intentionally spent less than they do on big movies, with their licensing partners picking up the slack. For example on TV:

My favorite kids movie of the year, probably. It's just done so well.
Good man. I took my niece to that on Wednesday. My favorite kids movie of the year, probably. It's just done so well.
