Jeez...Star Wars about to break the opening weekend box office record for december....in its second weekend.

This movie is doing so good it doesn't even make sense anymore.

It's probably going to break the january weekend record too lol

Record is shy of $90 mil

Right now we are expecting upwards of $100 mil

It's tracking for well above $100M its third weekend. If it clears $175M this weekend, I'd probably say $135M is the floor for its third weekend.

It's definitely becoming a cultural experience the same way Avatar was. People are going to see it because they feel like everyone else is. It's more of an event than another movie. My parents are going to see it tomorrow and I'm pretty sure the last time they went to a theater was when I dragged them out to see Gravity over two years ago.

It's really starting to feel that way. My dad went to see it and he never watches movies at the theatre... And he's not really a Star Wars fan.

Even avatar didn't get him to a theatre.

Yes was at my in-laws today for the big Christmas get together, everyone was talking about seeing it. People who clearly have little to no interest in going go movies typically. It really broke through

Yeah, that seems like a lowball given its legs so far and what Deadline (I know) was saying earlier. I'd expect closer to $50m. If it is that "low" then the other new releases did eat into it this weekend.

That is surprisingly low. Lower than what it did mon-wed

They could be low balling it a bit.

But do realize that will destroy the old xmas record... and would be the 2nd highest or highest non-opening friday of all time....

Potentially breaking multiple records and still being disappointing lol

2nd weekend is only close to 200% of the old December opening record. Obviously the film is a failure.

It seems weird to be disappointed with numbers like that.

The theater I'm at right now is about 65-70% full for the SW showing. There were definitely people here to see that daddy's home nice though

I hear that Disney is shutting down production on Rogue One. They'll probably be forced to sell back to Lucas for pennies on the dollar. He can't wait to introduce Midi-Chlorians and trade routes in the next installment.

If you've got an issue with me, stop dancing around it and say it. I'm bored. Otherwise beat it. This passive aggressive snark is for the birds.

I like the cut of your jib, friend. You took that post way wrong but I'm willing to hash this out at the flagpole if you wish.

Somewhat off-topic, but it makes me happy to see a movie with a female lead and a black lead break all sorts of box office records.

Just got back from the theater that I work at. Fucking hell, people sure do go out of their way to make a gigantic mess in a theater. Everything was packed, even the Indian movies. The theaters, and Imax, playing Star Wars were sold out or close to it. For our European friends, people clapped at the end of Star Wars.

RTH's 45-50 makes a lot more sense and a lot more fitting with how this has been playing.

I wonder what RTH actually does, the guy seems to get early accurate numbers way earlier and better than the biggies like Deadline and Hollywood Reporter.

45-50 isn't necessarily his range, just saying THR's 35-40 was too low. That sounds like it was based on matinees and presales.

I had a 4pm showing at a 3D liemax at a pretty busy theater in Columbus Ohio. Was about 50% full. I was worried that it would have been sold out since going to the movies on Christmas is increasing in popularity every year. Theater was pretty busy, I heard a lot of people there for Daddy's Home.

Opposite here in Florida, it has lost popularity. It used to be in our top 3 busiest days every year. Right now it's almost back to the old days. .. quite busy here!
