Wolfenstein TNO: 2014 GotY + one of the best shooters ever *GIF WARNING*

GOTY for me as well currently but I have yet to beat Deathshed.

I'm stuck on his second form something fierce.

The fire makes everything worse.

I'm on Normal.
Here's a couple of easy ways...

When you drop down the hole on the right hand side there is a walkway, run to the end of this and turn right you can kind of squeeze under the walkway there if you crouch and he won't be able to hit you (much), he just stands there shooting and you can shoot crap at his legs to take him down.

Another way is to use the rockets if you have enough, but only shoot them slowly, so shoot wait for him to reel back, recover & then rinse and repeat till he drops.

I used the first tactic on Über as I couldn't kill him for ageees! Hope this helps :)

Thanks OP, was doubting if I should get this one. You just secured another purchase for MachineGames.

Edit:
Whoops my bad, thanks for explaining antitrop.

Thanks OP, was doubting if I should get this one. You just secured another purchase for Id software.

The game was actually developed by MachineGames in Sweden, formed by ex-Members of Starbreeze studios.

The game only uses the same engine as iD's Rage. iD's involvement in this game was "clearing" MachineGames to use the Wolfenstein license at Bethesda's behest. Before Carmack and all of them left.

MachineGames pitched their ideas to Bethesda, but were turned down, then it was Bethesda's suggestion that they use one of their newly acquired iD licenses, either Doom, Quake, or Wolfenstein. MachineGames chose Wolfenstein.

iD is currently making a nebulous Doom game.

Wolfenstein was easily the best choice that MachineGames could have made, because it has the most "identity" of those 3 franchises. Wolfenstein is very clearly defined as a game about BJ Blazkowicz shooting Nazis. Defining what makes Quake Quake is impossible, because all 4 of those games are completely different, and kinda the same thing with Doom.

Finished it earlier today. Loved it, probably the most fun i've had in years on a shooter, or games in general. Loved the universe, the gameplay(shooting is so satisfying), characters and plot. They feel alive.
Wouldn't exactly say it's the GOTY(amazing contender though), but it is one of the best shooters ever, without a doubt.

You should get a cut of the sales you generated from the Op. I ordered it on Amazon today. Looking forward to it. Been bored of late.

Just beat it. Other then them completely shitting up the place with a godawful ending this was on track for awesome-ville. Nice credits though.

Some of the super serious tonal moments felt a little off but other than that i appreciated the ambitious storytelling. The nazis were suitably fucked up in this game so it was fun to kill them. Gameplay was mostly great. The weapon switching system in the game sucked though. I kept losing the alternate guns i wanted to switch to, annoying.

Graphics were excellent. Not really understanding how people thought this didnt look too hot. Lots of great processing and shader effects.

This definitely had some of the special sauce you find in games like Bioshock Infinite and Last of Us, so its a big winner imo

Almost done....at the castle, couple save points in at this point...I swear to god those dogs get me everytime, not kill me but startle the crap out of me (because I'm always crouched and walking all stealthy) and then suddenly its like

BOOM CHOMP CHOMP motherfucker...

haha I'm moving back in my seat, trying to find something to crawl under to get away from these things. Probably my favorite game I played this year hands down, the story though not award winning, keeps drawing me back in. Its definitely one of those games you put on, and don't even realize 4 hours went by, and when you finally do realize 4 hours went by, you're just like "ok.......just one more mission"

And also his surprise as to why people were shrugging off another Wolfenstein game which he felt was the father of the first person shooter and deserves to be there more than anyone.
Probably because the last Wolfenstein game got most of the developers who made it fired and the rest of the studio eventually merged into the Call of Duty assembly line.

I certainly wasnt thinking about it from that angle and he didnt seem to be either, but its a good point. Hopefully these guys can make the sequel they want to. I sensed a lot of doubt at the final question despite him really wanting to make one. Hopefully it sold a ton in the steam sale.

Cool game, but it just kind of ended suddenly, to me. That said the length did seem about right. Final boss battle was kinda tedious, but overall game was really polished and I was motivated to finish it which doesn't happen often.

Oh, and I normally skip cutscenes but didn't skip any in this - the story was good, and had some great characters.

Bulletstorm still has the crown for old-school style shooters, for me. Short, creative and really fun.

I started playing this today on PC. first of all im happy my gtx580 is still a champ and runs it maxed, that oldie was one of my best purchases ever. Anyway, the game...

Ho-Holy shit? I had heard good things about it but damn, its fucking amazing. I played
the first war level and then the asylum level, and stopped when you are infiltrating berlin and the car gets stopped and the old man tells you to kill everyone. Man what a ride, those first 2 levels were awesome. I love everything about it, the look of it, the level design, the weapons, the voice acting is good, its actually quite fucked up...
what a good first impression. Hopefully it holds up for the rest of the game

Kinda funny how a single thread can make me go from not caring about a game at all to quickly ordering it on Amazon.

Thanks Messofanego!

I'll pick this as one of the best shooter of 2014.

But Shooting Game of the year? I won't judge right now because so many shooters will release at 2014.

I think it really only comes down to Destiny or Far Cry 4 to take the crown from Wolfenstein right now. Destiny is a completely different genre and Far Cry 4 looks like Far Cry 3 in the mountains, so we'll see.

Hey, for others that played on the PC, did your fps drop a whole lot whenever you got real close to looking at fences or bars? I have a souped up PC and playing on max settings i got like half fps whenever i got close to those things.

Other than that i was at a constant 60, minus a few exceptions in the hideout.

You are not the first person I've seen say that, for what that matters. I played on PC but never noticed that myself. I didn't play at max settings, though.

And the reason the hideout has a lot of drops is because of the extreme usage of depth of field there.

Eh, both of those games are open world, this is not, listen when suddenly one moment you're
in a concentration camp
the next you are
taking a nap and suddenly playing wolfenstein 3-d
then you're
deep under the ocean at some nazi occult site
. Then it's like..
you're on the fucking moon and you have that realization 'how the fuck am I getting back to earth??'

Destiny and Far Cry will be great, I played the alpha to one of them, I know this to be true but this is a special game.... Lots of fun

Oh yeah...
even though our hide out was under attack, I still took time to flush the toilet

Ugh... You saw that.. I just panicked and started to edit with the quickness

I already beat it dont worry i just thought it was funny.

It does suck. Too many guns is the problem.

Well, it is a tough problem to combat. On one hand, i really appreciate them allowing dual wielding and giving many gun options. On the other i was always fighting with setting up my guns configurations when it came to switching to whatever the secondary gun i wanted. I think the laser beam cutter was the thing that kept fucking it up. Too many times you had to recharge it just got in the way and took up a slot.

He played the game on PC, though. So I'm assuming he used the number keys to switch between weapons like a normal person.

That is the ideal option, however ever since i evolved and hooked my pc up to my TV for comfy couch gaming, i like to use my 360 controller for most games that let me. So key and mouse fixes the problem but it sucks for the controller.

I just finished up the game today on PC. I had high expectations given the impressions on GAF for the past few months, and it didn't disappoint.

The final boss was a bit annoying, but other than that the game was extremely refreshing. I'm going to let this one rest for a bit and revisit in a year or so just when I start to forget how much I enjoyed it.

I'm glad that I bought it.

Fair enough.

The weapon scrolling wheel is still a better alternative than restricting the players to 2 weapons or something like that. This game is a PC shooter, anyway.

Amazing game. Got 1000/1000 points on the Xbone version.

At the end when
Deathshead takes out the brains and puts them in the mech i was like holy shit, very rare for a FPS to get those types of feels from me

The console versions are 60 fps? That's actually a big fucking deal. What was the last first person shooter not named Call of Duty to run at 60 fps on a Sony or MS console -- Timesplitters back in 2005?

You want some FPS feels? Play The Motherfuckin' Darkness.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. The point still stands, that 60 fps shooters are extremely rare on Sony and MS consoles.
It's not so rare on current gen. Titanfall, BF4, KZSF in certain modes, COD, and Wolfenstein. The majority of FPS games are 60 fps.

I have a hard time saying the console versions of those games are true 60 fps titles. Titanfall and BF4 spend more time below 60 than they do at it and Killzone rarely ever reaches 60.

Just beat this yesterday. Apart from the horrible bosses and the dragging middle portion, the game was great. The last 3 or4 levels were superb.

Also, the
shrapnel shotty and laser rifle
are awesome.

Finished it today. Great ride. It truly felt like a gameplay love letter to the older style FPS bit with characters and a story that was surprisingly great. I was impressed at how they'd get me to care about all these characters with only small quick dialogue segments. And Williams inner monologue was funny at times.

One of the best SP shooters I've played in long time.

I thinking of buying the soundtrack. The music was great

Since this is the new OT: do armor upgrades just make armor deplete slower, or does it increase the number beyond 100? I went back through to try the other timeline and have been getting health upgrades which increases the health counter above 100, but that didn't happen with armor.

Just wanted to say I'm not really into FPS, but this OP convinced me to give this game a shot once I pick up a PS4.
