Are you annoyed over whether or not a little Raw/Smackdown logo is next to the wrestler's names? Because that's all the brand split means in these games outside of Universe mode and Universe mode always did brand splits even when that concept went away in the real shows.
People expect more from games, except for the repeat purchasers of the WWE 2K series. Madden and NBA 2K aren't perfect games, plenty of flaws in both and big things that need improvement, but both are
going above and beyond being acceptable this year with being relevant to the time period that the game is set... e.g, the 2016/2017 NFL football season. The announcers in Madden talk about things that happened in real life from this week, NBA 2K and Madden both release updated uniforms (home and away) for 32 teams throughout the year when they're revealed by Nike/NFL/NBA, NBA 2K has multiple studios doing broadcasts depending on what type of game you're in (regular season, playoffs, Friday night game, etc).
Yukes and 2K spent all of this hot air talking about how they want to make a "simulation" wrestling game (even while that concept is
ridiculous...), and yet they don't make any attempt to simulate the very things that make wrestling interesting for fans. Characters are months and months out of date, wrestlers who have been on the roster for a year are sold as premium DLC, ring attire is usually old, factions and character personalities are old. As someone else said, the previous year's Wrestlemania is generally the cut off date for what you can expect when it comes to something being accurate. That's the equivalent of Madden, NBA, Fifa, or what have you, ignoring any roster moves made during the off season, or selling rookie players as premium DLC.
Shinsuke Nakamura is premium DLC this year, right? A guy who was a big signing in ... January in WWE? Many people are upset or disappointed by this, but plenty of others have been having this kind of BS happen for years in this series that they're conditioned to accept it as normal. It would be like if Madden '17 made you buy premium DLC to get Carson Wentz or Ezekiel Elliot, the top draft picks from the April 2016 NFL draft.
If Yukes/2K wants to not update the roster or not make any attempt to simulate what's on TV, then that's their prerogative. But when they make all this hot air about how they're pushing the game into being a simulation, then they can't release a game that isn't relevant to the year that they're trying to simulate.
