WWE 2K17 |OT| It's the same game, yes it is!

In that case maybe I just did badly enough in the training that they still gave me the choice haha.

I had the option of both so maybe it does depend on how well you perform in the tutorial.

Yeah, I didn't get a choice, Albert just said I was going to have a tag team on the main roster.

As a 2K16 owner, I see absolutely no reason to "upgrade" this year.

It's crazy that we're essentially looking at a year's work of nothingness. It's almost enough to make me think this year's game was handled by a skeleton crew while everyone else is busy working hard on a complete overhaul for 2K18, but this is Yukes we're talking about so believing that would make me crazy.

Huh? We have a promo engine that lets you form tag teams in promo's, turn heal, further rivalries, and it's pretty extensive since it's text based.

We have the ability to mash up entrance music now, with far more original music to choose from then before.

Those two things alone make this an instant upgrade from 2K16 for me.

Can you simulate the current product. Rosters for Raw,Smackdown and NXT. Ive messed around some with it,but seems like a lot to get it accurate.

I feel like I wasn't given the choice to start in NXT in the career mode. Did I screw up?

This seems to be a thing. If you excel in the preliminary match they aren't giving you a choice. You basically have to have a shitty match to get the option.

That's dumb.

Yeah, with CAS to add in anyone who is missing and the ability to create shows for extra PPVs. It does take some time to get it accurate.

Really dumb, especially as the NXT edition gives you 50% more earnings while in NXT.

Once rosters are accurate, NXT has 8 people and maybe Shinsuke too :lol

You stupid idiots need to stop whining about the shit graphics and start whining about the shit gameplay.

I don't care what the game looks like. Just give me gameplay of All Stars goddammit.

I'll whine about both though, although I don't think the graphics are bad when they try. It's in the models that they don't try on that are embarrassingly bad and that takes down the whole product. Some models look great in every edition of the game. If you wrestle with the Brock Lesnar and John Cena, the models look good. But it's the moment that you use a wrestler who isn't one of the top 15 or so guys that they spent time on that it breaks the whole experience, unles you're somebody who doesn't mind using their imagination to fill in the details. I wouldn't even mind bad graphics if there was some reason for them, like the animations are so tight and top notch, or the movement is so responsive, that the graphics have to take a bad seat... But, in the case of these games, the graphics are usually rough and the animations are rough and the movement is usually unresponsive and arbitrary. I very rarely feel like I am controlling a wrestler in these games, I feel like I'm trying to guess which arbitrary buttons allow me to perform an arbitrary action that has arbitrary results. Graphically, I really don't care, but the approach that 2K takes with the wrestler models is akin to if Madden had good looking teams with accurate representations for the top 15 teams in the NFL, but then the Browns, Titans, and Bears were vanilla #88 fake players, with generic uniforms.

I've been complaining about the shit gameplay for several years, which has only gotten worse. Last year I pretty much gave up on the game ever improving, but then was brought out of the woodwork to comment when IGN started doing articles about how the game was going more "sim," which is just ridiculous in so many different ways.

Wrestling games cannot be a simulation of something like UFC. While this game is more "sim" this year, I'd wager that performing a body slam or a drop kick is still harder than performing your special move or "OMG WOW" moment.

I wrote this after the first WWE 2K17 interviews/articles on IGN:

2K interview said:
We’ve shifted the gameplay experience focus from an arcade-centric, fighting game style to simulation-based gameplay, and WWE 2K17 continues pushing in that direction with both improved and new gameplay mechanics.

Do people actually want this? Whenever I think of great wrestling games from years past they were typified by simplicity and strategy, not these complex control systems. I recently played through the Steve Austin showcase mode in 2k16, and it was so frustrating just trying to remember how to do these complex prompts like moving a guy towards the announce table, only to then be introduced with a quick time event... It's like I'd have to perform this complicated chain of nonsensical button presses, and then it introduces a ridiculously over-simplified QTE. That's not a simulation. If it takes waggling a stick to find a marble inside a circle, filling up the circle with a red color, only in order to get your opponent in position for a suplex where you have to tap A and then tap A + direction to perform the move (like 4 or 5 really specific, arbitrary steps where you're interacting with arbitrary UI elements), but then 5 minutes later in the match, you use a QTE of "A....... Y...... A" to break out of a stunner and then deliver a rock bottom to a steel chair... THat's not a simulation, it's arbitrary, and it's not fun. In one case, you need to follow a very specific instruction of button presses to perform a very mundane move in wrestling that has inconsequential results and your opponent gets up from it immediately. In the second case, you have to hit the A button on the screen once to perform a life-ending finisher that renders your opponent motionless. It's not only not a simulation, but it's not fun, performing complex actions for inconsequential results and then simple actions for devastating results does not make sense.

Wrestling games used to be the single most fun party games you could play. WWE 2K16 is so complex for a new person to pick up that you'd have to constantly pause the game to explain controls for various situations.

...

At least with AKI's N64 wrestling games, it's not so much that they were simulators or arcadey, it's that they had simple systems to understand and almost anybody could learn the gameplay within a match or two, while people who played a lot understood the strategy of a match and how to win, which made the gameplay way more free-flowing and fun. You could have a 1 on 1 match with managers and everybody would feel involved in the match.

2K16 is impossible to pick up and play, and for professional wrestling that just doesn't make sense. It might make sense for a UFC or MMA game. It's also needlessly complex in the wrong ways. Pulling off your special move is very easy, you hit Y or Triangle. But pulling off a simple body slam is obtuse and way more complex than it needs to be, with grappling minigames and a revearsal engine that is difficult to learn and only introduces annoyances.

We will never get All Stars gameplay or All Stars 2 because a bunch of stupid idiots didn't buy the game.

I'm putting everyone who didn't buy it on the list.

I am def going to download a bunch of NPJW/ROH/TNA guys to throw in NXT/RAW/SD.

Gonna make my own alternate universe WWE where it's going to be called WWE Global because they will have partnered with companies like PWG/NJPW/ROH and bought TNA. NXT will be treated as a major brand as big as RAW and Bullet Club will be it's own entity that super seeds the draft and shows up wherever they want. People can poo poo on 2K all they want but i love playing with universe mode and creating my own little wrestling universe and it seems like this year universe mode is much better.

WWE Brawl looked similar to All Stars. Shame it got cancelled due to THQ going under.

11gb update wowzers
Gears of Wars 4 update was like 11-11.5gb, Halo 5 was over 9GB, Overwatch patch 1.01 or 1.02 was 9GB.

We used to get outraged at games that were over 20GB now we are getting games at 100+GB and the bigger these games get the bigger the patches are gonna get.

I'm waiting for reviews to hit for this one.

I got bored with 2K16 pretty quickly and this looks pretty damn similar to last years game.

Trying to do an entrance video and if I try and import a customs superstar entrance scene to it, it goes wonky and I have to close the application entirely.

Be careful guys on ps4, there's a bug going around that putting your PS4 into "sleep" mode while on the main menu of WWE 2K17 can result in all of your save data being removed; almost like it's a new PS4.

Holy shit!

I need to read up more on this.

At least I have them in the cloud... but still.

Edit: Any link? I can't find anything about it.

Season pass is $40. Eff that! I only bought this game because I got a really good deal, but I'm already feeling its probably the exact same shit as year's past. Fun to play but full of glitches, bugs, and other shit.

In response to albatross, you can rework gameplay by buying the accelerator and editing superstars.

Took me like 30m to get the changes I was looking for, for the whole roster

Did an entrance for that weird dude with a video. Worked out great, except the blue filter on the video didn't export.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwlmp6Vi-UA

But oh man, career mode is even more garbage than last year. So they've slowed it down even more because you have to watch the intro video to the show, pyro and repetitive commentary... But why? And in my first show as part of a tag team job team I could walk out and cut a promo at any segment of the show.

That promo engine makes no sense. You can say the same shit and it will have different effects based on the "crowd" or some shit. Even if you respond properly on a duel promo, it can fuck you. Cena (Yeah, I called him out for the show closer promo on my first night) said something about flipping a switch to take me out, which was apparently bad, so I responded about flipping the switch to shut his mouth and that was also bad. But hey, I apparently won the promo battle.

Everything else is the same other than the Heyman stuff which needs me to win a title first, but I don't think I'll get that far. The rankings, the entries to new titles, the total focus on the Authority where even a slight change will make Renee ask how you feel about the Authority liking or not liking you. My fucking god. What an utter pile of wank.

Let me know if they have yours. Thy gave me the digital deluxe version for free after being on the phone with them for 45min. They are still sending me the nxt edition when it arrives. Is nakamura in the digital deluxe or do I have to wait now?

no issues picking it up this morning.

This is exactly what made the AKI-engine games so fun. They were easy enough to pick-up and play. The accessibility just made those games really fun. I really don't understand why this style of gameplay can't return.

Think people might have misunderstood a tweet floating around, looks like your entire WWE 2K17 data can get swiped.

That's what happened to me, I'll try to recreate it when I get back home.

Glad I only paid $37 for it. I get enough enjoyment out of the creation that I get my money's worth but damn. Seems glitchy this year, more than normal.

passing on this game this year, I usually buy them religiously on day 1, I just can't do it anymore. I played 2k16 last night and it plays like shit, the controls are so unresponsive, you press the grapple button and it take second before the character starts to do a grapple, and half the time it doesn't even move at all, so you have to mash the button to sort of feel like you have some control.

I can't stand the submission system in that game. This one has an optional new one but it sounds jacked up.

Am i missing something but didnt the old 2k games have a lobby browser for mp?....there is no browser for mp...only the ability to search by match type which could be 100s of different combinations to find someone else with the same match type

So you can now interrupt the animation for taking apart the announce table, but if you do, the announce table can not be setup for a move. The fuck?

Also, seen random glirltches where people came out black. Seen black Jericho and black Goldberg so far.

Got my NXT edition in the detail and paint job on Finn is great and to my surprise the signature on the Nakamura print isn't a mass printing autograph i wonder how many of these things he had to sign.

Can't wait to dive in after the patch i always hear buggy this glitch that but i have never ran into any of these glitches in previous games and i have put probably 100+ hours in 15 and 16. I actually wish i came across some of the more hilarious ones.

50,000 I believe

I have no willpower. I know this game won't be that good, I told myself I wasn't going to buy it this year, and of course when I went to Best Buy to grab Dragon Quest Builders there was a big WWE display and I grabbed a copy. I feel shame right now and I haven't even finished downloading the 11 gb update.
