The gamepad support isn't proof that the game was ever planned for consoles (Big Picture is a thing after all), and neither is the "Xbox" string in shaders. Egosoft might have used shaders written by somebody else that just happen to contain console specific stuff. Not that I'd rule out the possibility, but what has been discovered so far is in no way decisive.Well, I haven't yet bought the game, but I eventually planned to, and now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll get it a year or so down the road on a Steam sale, after it's been fixed like mad by both Egosoft and the community. Not my problem, that's lost money to them.
Anyway, I really don't like apologists and I don't appreciate victim-blaming. Didn't like those attitudes in the Battlefield 4 threads and don't like them here. Read the thread and read this. People have gathered plenty of evidence for this first being conceived as a console game. The UI issues alone are indicative enough. Still, even ignoring all that, releasing a game in this kind of state is shameful and people are rightly angry and demanding refunds.

Seriously, is this first X game release for people? Their games always were buggy, because of scale of the project.
Anyone who expected smooth launch really should research game before buying.
And what console based design leftovers? FFS show me other game, that is doing what this game is doing even in X: Rebirth.
I'm staying aboard the Rebirth starship, as leaky as it is right now. Not so much a question of hype biting my posterior - even though it was my most anticipated title - but the fact is, there's so much to like DESPITE the limp floor show regarding stuff that is easily fixed.
It'll be one of those long-legged games, but we just need EGOSOFT and modders to flip the semi-cooked morsel a few times in the pan.
Try Albion Prelude, but You probably wont like the series. This is really hardcore PC game, its like Europe Universalis etc, You need really be into it, to like it.
Wow, what a piece of crap. Conspiracy theory at its finest.
Their inhouse engine has Xbox360 references for the very first time and it works perfectly with a gamepad but not a keyboard.

Doubt anyone will honestly leave the game forever. It's a niche title for a niche audience. People, including myself, is just kind of upset on the level of which the game is broken.
For instance at this stage I can't touch superhighways without trying like 5 times with saving/ loading due to being pushed billions of KM away from the exit point.
Or how the I experienced the third 'endless' escort mission today. That's 3/4 missions bugged which has nothing to do with the main campaign.
Just like the last two big titles I bought (Rome 2, BF4) this game is going to the 'wait until fixed' pile.
Yep this for someone that enjoys the occasional space game, This is pretty broke design wise in many ways besides all the bugs.
Not anymore.
Well, you had problem choosing the right country... so hush
Maybe Egosoft could make a pile of cash by having a sale of TC and AP
I think it's too early to judge what kind of experience this game offers. Once all the gears are oiled and bugs are squashed, then we'll see what's on the table. Then, with any luck, we'll get our massive mod overhauls like the Xtended suite.
kinda wish the marketing reflected off this lol. I came in expecting a buggy but good space accessible sim game. I got was a super buggy nebula of ideas and concepts.
maybe if they had like a mass effect budget, they could have pulled it off. I think i'd been a bit more forgiving if this was $20 I guess.
But I'm not too mad. I actually have a good batting record of enjoying most games that i bought at launch.
probably should have waited for impressions before buying this. learned my lesson!
For those needing more room to ogle, there's a stripped-back cockpit mod out in the wild.
I think you'll agree it frees up what was once a rather claustrophobic/constricted viewport:

I don't give a shit that this was probably once a console game. I'm more disappointed that the game is, based on impressions, not very good by its own merits :/.

It's just a bit of a muddle-headed wombat at the moment, bugs notwithstanding. Great ideas mixed with bizarre ones. Browsing the modding sub-forum on the Rebirth site...man, X modders are fast and surgical. They're already working on killing the highways (a part that I don't actually mind, it's a bit of pulpy fun) and figuring how to redo traffic...exciting times.
You know, this game should totally support dual monitors with how the cockpit view is setup.
So... say... is this true?
What the hell happened at egosoft these last seven years. It's one thing to release a minimum viable product - and another to release an entirely unfinished game.
If these things genuinely are fixable, then maybe there is hope for the game yet.

I've followed the advice to play Free Play instead of campaign so I can actually do the open world stuff without the navigator trying to get me to some stupid story objective every time. How much does a freighter cost though? And do you buy one at a specific station or an NPC? I've asked tons of ships and NPCs for the way to the ship vendor but when they did answer they only told me that they don't know of any.
They tell I am in the tutorial stage still, looking for the assassin ROV...
I seem to remember they told me earlier to fly close to stations to gain information about them - where does this information go? Also, after I do so, the police bang into me and yell at me on the radio for doing so... Why?
I've been opening lockers and boxes to pick up misc. items - where/how do I see my inventory?
Is there a way to find out where I should dock to pick up this assassin ROV drone?
That's a ... disquieting way of putting it. Stealth-accusing your customer base to fail at playing the game you made is kinda sad. Can't think of a German wording that would make this a translation error, either.3) AI bugs with trade ships (please make sure you are using the trade menu correctly before assuming you are affected by this bug).
Think most drone dealers sell them in there 'special' category or w/e its called.
my problem is i'm broke, and the game doesn't do shit to explain how to make money. i gather i needa do quests/missions but i'm having a hard time finding any kind of mission disperser and the only mission i found was, deliver 240 narcotics to X... except i'm broke, and i don't even know where to get narcotics.
You need to look at station. Generaly there are 4 types of icons:
i - which gives you bonus
resource - with icon depending what is resource and if it is buy or sell
docking point - where you can dock (there are like 4 different ones and most of the time they are in places where you can see them from afar.
mission spot - briefcase, skull etc where people give you mission. they can be hidden same as "i" places
Who plays the X games for the plot?I'm kinda baffled by Bernds Steam community post.
Just one example.

The sorely needed UI fix seems to be pretty damn far off according to his list.
Also, the part about not putting much emphasis on ensuring the game runs well on hi-perf parts is just mindboggling. I would understand some problems with SLI/Crossfire, but performance appears to be constant and pretty bad no matter what kind of setup you have.
( As an aside: is the plot really that shitty? No spoilers please, I only heard it's basically a chain of "Booby McCleavage says stuff and the main character nods and follows her lead" )

How the hell does the purchasing interface work?!
Buy 100 energy cells - ok... fly there, open the menu, hit next, select '100' click purchase...
"Ok, I'm on my way..."
Thefuq does that mean?!
v1.13 - 2013-11-18
Fixed player occasionally being sent 1000s of km into space on leaving superhighway.
Fixed some invalid (but harmless) values in some savegames.
Fixed some causes of ship traders getting stuck (more to come on this).
What does it mean though? did I in effect order my freighter pilot to go buy the energy cells? It appears so as the freighter name was in the buy window...
