X360 almost as big as the XBox.

Surprised no one mentioned it here.

X360: 3.27" x 10.16" x 12.17"

Xbox: 3.5" x 10.25" x 12.75"

Not much of a difference there, not much of a difference at all. But I guess the concave design should make it seem a bit slimmer than it really is. It seems as if the makeshift measurements we were doing were a bir premature.

i had just noticed that, i thought it was going to be a good deal smaller. oh well. and did i hear right, that its watercooled? to what extent i wonder

Code:
3.27" x 10.16" x 12.17" == 404 cubic inches.

3.5" x 10.25" x 12.75" == 457 cubic inches.

Xbox36o is 11.5% smaller than the original.

Sorry man, but I think there's bigger problems than the size of the system to worry about right now. Wait until the news is slow, and the eye of the storm is over GA, for this. (sometime between today and E3)

Dreamcast was water cooled. How many recalls and water leaks were there with it?

My computer also has a water cooling system, never had any problems.

i hope when they say watercooling they mean heatpipes

I think it's heatpipes too. No way they can shove a water cooling unit in that case and effectively cool the CPU and/or GPU. It's most likely heatpipes. No leaks. :)

yes, the 3 cores are water cooled according to the colony video. LIke i said, MS better be prepared for electrecution lawsuites. ;p

When they were handling it in the MTV presentation, it seemed rather light.

Those may have been dummy units just to show off the design. I think more than a few times they showcased it with the light on, but no power cord coming out of it.

Just when I thought I heard all the most inane things to bitch about someone always comes up with something new.

Water on circuitry doesn't produce anything like as much trouble as water on mains electricity. The current used in circuitry like this is measured in milliAmps - that's not gonna hurt anyone.

jonny my friend, an average female will go into ventricular fibrilation at 50 milliamps for 2/10 of a second. A male @ 75 milliamps for 1/2 of a second. :)

I didn't realize DC was water cooled. Learn somethin everyday.

As a side note, the ring of light isn't really all that fancy or impressive. They sure talked that one up too much.

not sure if anybody's picked up on this yet, but from 1UP's XB360 story:

Aside from functioning as a just another on/off switch, the Xbox 360 power button is surrounded by a ring of colored light, divided into four quadrants. Depending on the individual game and programming by individual developers, these lights can be used to communicate certain info. For example, let's say you're playing Halo 3 splitscreen with three other friends and one of them gets an invite over Xbox Live — his quadrant of the circle could light up red as an alert. How the ring of light will work in practice with actual games remains to be seen. Since the Xbox 360 can stand vertically or rest on its side horizontally, an internal gyroscope sensor will let the machine know its orientation and adjust its circle of light quadrants accordingly.

According to my quick measurements and imperial translations (for you backwards non-metric folk)

PS2 is (approximately) 3.1" x 7.2" x 11.9"

And weighs 4.9lbs

Thats without a HDD.

So yep, 360 is still probably the biggest and heaviest next gen.

Wait, it has an internal gyroscope sensor? I'm suddenly imagining Warioware Twisted 360 where you use the Xbox360 as a controller.......

.....

You can see the heatsink with heatpipe in the ourcolony video at time points 1:04 and 1:06.

Here's pics: (click for full size)

Yes, the MS dude does call it "water cooled".

I also don't consider a heatpipe "water cooling".

Wait a minute... so these figures from IGN were totally wrong?

It looked kind of big in the videos. Like a PC chassis I have but thinner. Definately will be interesting if Nintendo really does release Revolution at 1-1/2" tall as is rumored.

It would be freaking tiny compared to the 360. That certainly isn't going to help in Japan if both of the other systems are STILL smaller.

Ah, thank you. I was hoping that someone would have some screen grabs of all the prototype designs that they flashed during the MTV thing.

Those prototypes ugly in a very alien/Giger-esque way.

BTW I believe that MS has been bullshiting some of their employees with false data to avoid leaks (imagine that! :lol), I actually got confirmed the original "30% smaller" statement from kotaku.

Weird. the eject button design (from the tray with "Xbox 360" on it) looks like some Gaffer's avatar I've seen before.

That's because that particular gaffer took it from one of the early released photos.

Did any canadians watch Canada AM this morning? They actually had the xbox 360 there and right beside it was the xbox and i can tell you that there isn't much size difference at all.

edit: found a video link: http://www.ctv.ca/canadaam, go here and click on technology, at the bottom of the page
