Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

That's not true. I don't have a 360 and I just bought RDR for 360. U can't use Microsoft credit for it however, but it allows u to if u pay via credit/debit card

I have a debit card tied to my account. When was the last time you used your old 360? I haven't had one in almost two years, which is where I think the issue lies.

Edit - WTF this is odd. Most games I'm able to purchase on the Xbox site, like Halo Reach and RDR. But I can't buy Tales of Vesperia. Weird!

This has to be working through emulation, right?

I wonder what the odds are of it potentially coming to Windows 10 at some point. It would be neat to play our 360 games on PC.

Now wonder Xbox is doing bad in Japan! They're blocking sales! Lol J/k

Glad u figured it out tho.

You can't. I tried a couple days ago. It asks you to sign into your Xbox 360 to ensure compatibility.

That error should only appear if you're trying to buy a region locked game via the website and haven't made any download purchases from your console before.

MS doesn't want someone buying a game they can't play and then complaining about it later.

But I have made purchases from my old 360! Hundreds of them! My XBLA collection is massive. I should have never sold that thing.

Oh well. Hopefully BC games will be made available for purchase directly through the XB1 store this fall.

Edit - Ahhh, it makes sense to me now. My old console is no longer registered under my MS account.

Pretty sure it's for age verification purposes. Makes sense.

So they want to verify age on 360 games but not XB1 games? I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it. My account that I'm using it on is 10 years old and has mature rated 360 and xb1 digital games on it already. People have already said if I had a 360 I could use the MS card on the console. You just can't do it on the site.

Does anyone else have 2 copies of multiple 360 games. Specifically I show Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, and Banjo Tooie as having been installed twice. Is it because I'm part of the preview?

uh, so I pre-ordered rare replay and now I can't play any of my 360 games that are part of the bundle. wtf.

MS made a statement a few days back that if you already have any of the games (that will be featured in Rare Replay) installed, you'll have to reinstall them so they are ready for Rare Replay.

So that may be why your games are weird.

nah, they overwrote the license, so it's showing up as pre-ordered now. Had to cancel the pre-order.

I'm in the same boat. I had redownloaded the Rare games whenever that notice happened. I preordered the Rare Replay collection yesterday. Now my previously bought copy of Banjoe-Tooie and VP are locked behind the preorder lock.

I can still play BK and VP but I've now got two copies of each on my xbox.

This annoyed me too but after messing around I found out that you can hide tiles in the Ready to Install section by pressing the Menu button and selecting Hide From List. You can then restore all the hidden tiles by holding both triggers then pressing X.

It's a shame you can't do the same for installed games as I'd quite like to hide all the Rare Reply tiles and access the games through Rare Replay itself, it would just reduce the clutter.

EDIT:
That's not quite accurate, holding both triggers and pressing X shows all the hidden icons but they're still classified as hidden. Holding both triggers again and pressing X hides all the ones you've chosen to hide again.

One very crucial piece of that long-term road map – and one of the features that is nearest and dearest to Ybarra’s heart – is the long-awaited introduction of Xbox One Backward Compatibility. The Xbox Engineering team spent over three years making this feature a reality, and now, it’s almost ready to unveil to our millions of fans, and Ybarra couldn’t be happier about it, especially because it’s something that makes so many gamers so happy to se

So I guess this means no OG Xbox compatibility anytime soon?

:(

Over three years ? Wow, I'm surprised that this didn't leak. Things are really tight at Xbox with Phil running things. The best move MS made.

Umm, if it's been three years, then it's been in motion long before Phil took over.

I wonder if a game that is made backwards compatible is required to be made available for digital purchase as well.

Or could a game like MvC3 that has licensing issues and can't be resold still be made available for existing disk & digital owners without putting it up for sale.

Of course even if this is possible I question whether any publisher would bother if there's no potential for future sales. But you never know. If there's really no work involved I guess there's no reason to say no either if they can do so without violating any licensing agreements.

It's possible they started on it 3 years ago then when they saw the time/money investment needed, they scrapped the project thinking it wasn't worth it. Mattrick states what he did after that decision.

Thereafter Phil is put in charge, the PS4 is killing it in sales, so he tells them to restart the project.

If the above very possible scenario is true then what they say isn't a lie.

Yeah his wording is interesting. I bet Phil is telling Ybarra, " Man, you took the lime-light away from me" That was my time to shine. MY TIME. lol jk

They probably did some basics tests if the X1 CPU/GPU could handle an 360 game.

I doubt this was in full development for 3 years where the x1 didn´t even exist ;-)

I think Phil Spencer said they started about a year ago to work on it and at the beginning of this year they saw: "OK, this could actually work"

I think they've had this idea for a couple of years, but it really gained traction last year. Microsoft does a lot of things, and many of them never make it to the outside attention.

Stopping things from leaking isn't hard as long as teams are small and contained. Things get much more challenging as you scale them up, involve third parties, involve testers etc, the duration of time has nothing to do with it really.

I'm pretty sure X1 started existing around 2010/2011, you don't build a console in 6 months
Beta tested in the future indeed.

It might depend on whether a game is region-locked or not, probably an attempt to prevent people from buying 360 games that may not work on their future 360. I know that Halo Reach and RDR are region free, whereas ToV is region-locked.

How do you save on viva piñata? I'm logged in to my profile, but the game still tells me to log in by hitting the guide button, but nothing saves.

Yeah, that's exactly what it is. Oh well. Hopefully BC games will be purchasable from the XB1 store directly once BC officially goes live this fall.
