Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Since the last update a few EA access games were added to my Ready to install list but not all of them. I can't launch them because the free EA access membership was already over.
 
Pre-ordered ReCore and got a "free" Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts download code - already own Rare Replay so.........

Is that an official MS offer or something being done by a store? Just seems like such a weird deal!

"Hey Cortana" before saying Xbox do this or do that, every goddamn time I need to do anything that isn't a web search?!! Any way to revert to the old Kinect voice commands?

Sounds like a hard drive issue. Do you have an external? If so try power cycling the external. Unplug it from the wall/Xbox for a minute or two...then reconnect everything.

if you already tried hard reset, erasing system cache, don't do anything more, since it could affect the service in your console.

for what you mention, you still have your licenses, so no worries there

You don't even need to do that. Just unplug the external from the Xbox and plug it back in a second later, it'll pop up that it's detected and your games/apps will re-appear.

Mine does this ALL the time on this preview update, drives me nuts. Did it on the stable version fairly rarely, but used to do it in a previous preview build too. It seems they reintroduce the same bugs in preview builds...

Since we're talking Cortana, that shit is SO slow and inaccurate for me compared to the traditional "Xbox..." Takes forever for Cortana to show up and determine what I've said. The number of false positives I've had previously don't outweigh the slowness and jankiness of Hey Cortana on the Xbox.
 
Btw, is it today that the Halo 5 free thingie begins?

I have no issues with Cortana being slow. Are you using Kinect or a headset? I use Kinect and it seems fine after the first initial warmup. I think i'll do a test with a headset when I get home from work and see which is more responsive.

back on topic - I have a feeling whatever Games with Gold is announced this week, the 360 games will be ones that have already been released on BC. I would love to be wrong.
 
i noticed gamestop and amazon raising prices on games that become BC because people are looking to buy the game. For example, gamestop now sells a used copy of Black Ops on 360 for $23 where the PS3 version is $8...

... So I decided to go check out gamestop today and walked out with a complete (case and guide book in good condition) used copy of Lost Odyssey for $8. It still sells for very high on amazon. Hopefully the investment pays off when it eventually becomes BC and they price shoots up.

I noticed this as well. Last year after BC was announced I bought some really cheap 360 games in hopes of them hitting BC. I remember Gamestop had a decent 4 for $10 promo on older 360 and PS3 games. I picked Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno, and a few others really cheap. Hopefully they all come to BC. If not I can always dig out the 360 to play.

I use Kinect on two different Xbox Ones, and Cortana is currently a disaster for me.

I'm surprised to hear it's working well for someone. It's so slow and inaccurate for me, I didn't think MS was even close to being ready for it to go live.

I just want "Xbox..." back.

I think they should give gamers the option to choose between the two.

I was completely shocked when I saw that the digital prices on the xbox store are still very high for some of these games as well. I feel Like the publishers would make more money (or money in general) by dropping the price for most of these BC games to $10 or so because all the high prices are doing is making people resort to gamestop to buy used copies, which are being gouged but still cheaper than the digital versions.
 
Was Mass Effect 1 ever updated? The frame rate tests said it performed significantly worse in combat/exploration sequences than the original 360 version
 
I'm hating Cortana with Kinect, it's way worse than on my Windows Phone, please give me the option to use the old "Xbox do that"... so slow, unnecessarily clanky, unresponsive and the number of misinterpretation raised to sky high compared to the old commands via Kinect. Have not tried with the headset but I have no interest in doing so

Plenty people use it, thread title was a joke from the reveal when half the responses were "why would I want to play my old games, it's a new gen I want to play new games." Thus the "no one uses it" mantra was born :P

I was joking with a friend of mine that the reason why it's taking Microsoft so long to bring ME2 and ME3 to BC is because of the sheer amounts of DLC available to them. There's so many little pieces of DLC which contain nothing but skins and weapons packs, and some pieces DLC were only ever available from playing a demo, buying the collectors edition, from buying razor gaming accessories etc.

My favorite was the DLC I got from Dr. Pepper for Mass Effect 2.
 
I hope we get a decent BC announcement today. I'm still waiting on Red Dead Redemption like everybody else, but have tons of JRPGs I would like to get back to.

Yup, that's what I said on CAG.
I was hoping we'd see the Cal of Duty: Black Ops model followed: a sale and BC announcement the next day.

But we're just about past the day's timeframe when Major Nelson would be making the BC announcement....

part of the reason I feel like Dragon Age 1/2 aren't out yet.
 
I don't understand what's going on with Spelunky. It used to be available to buy from the XB1 store. Now it says Bundle Only but when you select that option you get a message saying nothing was found.

I'm getting the same thing. It looks like it's working fine through the Xbox 360 store entry on the web. Though I think there's restrictions there that you don't experience on the XB1 side or on the XB1 console. (CC attached to your account, no split payments, things like that, I'm not sure I don't use it much)

I had the same issue. Try changing the organization of the tiles, that helped me !
 
Three of my BC games took updates overnight;

Double Dragon Neon,
Galaga Legions DX,
OG Streets of Rage 2.

Dark Souls had an update yesterday too.

Could this mean an update to the emulator/possible new BC drop tomorrow?

Don't know about the other three, but Dark Souls is using the same emulator as all the updated games from the past few weeks, which actually isn't the most recent build anymore.

This! Cortana works like ass for me as well. I really miss just saying "Xbox,..." I wish they allowed you to revert back in the settings.
 
Only problem with Cortana is that she works *too* well lol. I say "Hey Cortana, x..." and both my Xbox and my Surface activate. I keep forgetting and then I have two Cortanas speaking nearly in unison haha

I got an update for Streets of Rage 2 standalone too. It loaded up and played just fine and everything. Thing is: I don't own that game. I own the collection. It didn't load the collection either.

Edit: OH! The collection for the SoR games doesn't work for me anymore. Streets of Rage 2 has replaced it. That sucks because the only game I like playing is the first one.

@majornelson @XboxQwik @XboxP3 Why has SVC Streets of Rage collection on BC been overwritten with vanilla SoR2? Different conversion/dev!
