Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

This is why I kept last gen. I don't want to use a modern console for running backwards compatibility on older games, especially when it needs to load into a different menu (at least that's what it seemed with Rare Replay).

I don't like it, or feel it's good for the system.

To each their own, though.

It's not really loading a different menu. It's a virtual machine running on the Xbox One. This has been possible for years on PC, you can for instance run an Windows XP inside Windows 8. The menus stay the same to the operating system it's running on. For the actual 360 game it doesn't know it's running in a bubble on different hardware and operating system. As far as it's concerned it's running on 360 hardware with the operating system on the 360.

Okay, wow. DiRT 3, Doom, and Fallout 3 are running like butter on my Xbone. Super impressed. Sucks to hear that Gears 3 is running like shit, though. Was considering picking up Gears 1 Ultimate Edition to play through all the games for the fist time, but I might not now.

I was thinking of adding $20 to my account and buying Stick of truth on Xbox.com. So that wouldn't work? Currently I get Xbox currency off Amazon and add it to my account and have bought XB1 games with no issue. Any else have any information on this?

Mentioned it in the other BC thread, but that's the way it has always worked.

360: Credit can only be used on console. Must use CC or Paypal on the web.
One: Credit can be used on the console or web.

Ikaruga wants me to buy it again despite being signed in on the website (and of course despite me already owning it on 360)

Are you sure you didn't buy Ikaruga on a different profile?

Found an issue with Fable II, this issue would probably affect similar games.

So I have the disc version of Fable II, specifically the Platinum Hits version. This version includes Knothole Island and See The Future on disc rather than as download vouchers, so the DLC is tied to the disc.

The problem is that the marketplace version of Fable II is based on the original non-Platinum Hits disc release, therefore the DLC must be purchased separately from the XBL marketplace if you play that version. The Xbox One doesn't recognize the disc as having DLC, it just reads the disc as Fable II and downloads regular old Fable II from the marketplace, so I'm essentially locked out of my save game since the save is tied to the DLC that's on the Platinum Hits disc.

I know there are free versions of the DLC, but I doubt that will solve my game save issue since it's the full premium DLC.

Ah well, no big deal right now, just a heads up.

Yep. Virtualization is also incredibly widely used in the IT world where you can have one powerful server running toms of different VMs with unique functions. Fun fact, Xbox One is a hypervisor that has one VM for games and another for Apps.

So is there a way for me to go on to my Xbox One and download the 360 Games for Gold games that should be backward compatible now? How does that work?

I'm interested to know if they'll actually try to improve upon any existing titles they've made BC in the future. Or whether due to limited resource they'll just do it and move on to the next ones in the list.

You might have to click the buy button (not the payment confirmation), then it will realize you already own it and add it to your account. Happened to me on a couple of games.

Just curious, anyone attempted buying games from other regions like you can with XBO titles? Wondering if it works or if the 360 digital region locking blocks it.

Have you reported this? It's probably just an oversight as other games with dlc on disk work

If you go to the Games With Gold page on the dashboard, there's a box to the left saying something about getting double the free games each month with the 360 backwards compatibility.

If you select it, it boots up the browser and takes you to the online marketplace store to buy them.

It's still far from a perfect solution, but I found it a bit more convenient than having to grab my laptop or fire up my 360.

Mass Effect and Shadow Complex had a few updates to them and it improved performance pretty well. I am sure that games that are having issues, they will update them. I don't think this is a one and done situation. I would encourage to report the issues if you have them so they are well aware of them.

Banjo Nut's and Bolts has an almost unplayable frame rate imo

I actually never touched Nuts and Bolts from Rare Replay....

Has anyone had any luck running Lumines LIVE! from Qubed?

It won't let me play it but Zuma works just fine from Plants vs Zombies disc.

That was during an explicit beta period, though. You'd expect a level of rework based on poor performance.

Apologies if this has been answered, didn't see it in the last few pages -- if I purchased Gears Remastered do I need to wait for download tokens to play the Gears saga (1, 2, 3, etc) via back-compat? Didn't see them on the dashboard.

Apparently will be sent to us on December 1.

Sorry if this has been asked, does anyone know if the FO3 download code that came with FO4 includes DLC/recognizes DLC that you've purchased in the past? I'd really prefer to use the code and go digital instead of being tied to my physical disc.

I played Lumines this morning and my fears were correct. It doesn't seem to know I have purchased the Advanced mode and the extra music videos. All I get is the first Basic gamemode and that's it, even though everything else is tied to the same XBL account.

Hope they sort this out soon.

Edit:

Have you tried going to manage the game and making sure that DLC isn't there to download and install?

Havent tried that. Good tip!

It should. I've never seen a case of download version of a game not recognizing bought dlc. As far as the service is concerned digital and phsyical discs are the same game.

But its only retail release was the Dreamcast Collection compo disc. They all show as separate arcade games, so it should work?

I have a bunch of XBLA compilation discs and the results on getting them to be recognized has been mixed.

Dreamcast Collection - Recognized
Crazy Taxi

Namco Museum Virtual Arcade - Not Recognized
Pac-Man Championship Edition

Popcap Arcade Hits Vol. 2 - Recognized
Feeding Frenzy 2
Heavy Weapon

Qubed - Not Recognized

Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 - Not recognized

I was pretty happy that I got my free digital copy of Fallout 3 yesterday and was able to download all my previous DLC purchases. If this becomes the norm, I'll always pre-order XBO versions of games if I get free old BC games.

Anyone from Germany know if FO3 is the German version (aka censored) or uncut?

Edit: Talking about the code you get with FO4, I should clarify.

Anyone get Wolf 3D to work?

If you bought Wolfenstein before Bethesda bought Id, then you're probably experiencing what I did, which is the game got delisted, but when it was relisted it was a separate game. Doom didn't have the same problem for whatever reason, but if you bought Wolfenstein earlier on, then you don't own the right "title" that they made backwards compatible.

So I've never been able to just download the game from the store page even on the 360 after that, I've always had to use the 360 download history. But that's not gonna work on Xbox One. You've already rebought the game and it's only $5, but it's still a bit frustrating that they did this. I have heard of people complaining to customer service and getting a credit to their wallet.

They did delist Doom. I have two copies of each on my 360 hard drive, the old Id release and the new Bethesda release. Only the Bethesda release shows in My Games.

Pinball FX was delisted after they released Pinball FX 2, but I haven't had any issues downloading and playing that outside of none of my DLC tables working.

Maybe try redownloading it again on 360 first?

This may have been answered already but I cant see it. I got gears ultimate when it came out but cant seem to get the old games on my Xbone, how do I go about this? Cheers.
