Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

So i finally bought an Xbox One, and I have to day: backwards compatibility is a godsend.

I bought Oblivion and am looking to buy the gears of war games for backwards compatibility.
I love this console already!

Top tip for the Gears games: If you plan on buying Gears 4, they all follow along as digital codes with the game!

In theory yes, but you can still retail copies with the codes I you look a little bit. Recently I was in FNAC and I found a Fallout 4 copy with a Fallout 3 code inside. Best 15€ spent in a long time.

Saving this for later.

Wasnt that until december?

I believe that was Gears 1: Ultimate Edition, maybe Gears 4 too? At least a physical Gears 4 will give you the codes on a leaflet inside the cover!

Edit: I may be wrong here, looks like the old games are no longer mentioned online. However if you grab a physical copy and see the logo I had on my cover on it, you're getting the 360 games on digital codes on a leaflet inside:

I've recently started gaming with my other half. We've been together a year and although I knew she gamed a bit when she was younger, it's not something we've actively done despite having consoles in the house. It's very quickly established itself as a nightly routine though, which has come out of nowhere and is kinda great.

Does anyone have any recommendations for local co-op or multiplayer 360 games that playable on Xbox One right now?

Battleblock Theater and Castle Crashers are great local co-op games. I think they both have xbone versions too.

Someone already mentioned Battleblock Theatre which is a great choice. I believe the 360 version of Borderlands 2 is about to hit GwG as well and that is pretty good local.

Portal 2 is another that is BC that I believe has local MP.

There are some great (Non BC) Xbox One games for local play though:

Guacamelee is a great Metroidvania game that can be played in Coop.

Rayman (can't remember the subtitle) is a great local coop action-platformer

Castle Crashers is excellent

Chariot is an interesting coop puzzler built entirely around cooperative play.

Diablo 3 if you're into it has some top notch local coop gameplay.

If I recall correctly all of the 360 era Gears games can also be played in local coop and they're great experiences.

It's about to go off GwG. Only two more days to get it before Heavy Weapon replaces it.

And yes, it's got fantastic local. Get it now before it's gone
and you've gotta pay for it like everyone else

I got a used copy of Gears 4 the other day from an online shop. It came with the codes and some stickers.

The codes still worked 2) I got a helpful XBL message from MS saying I had a free loot box or something in the game for supporting the series. Lootbox expired in 2016.

Btw AC Rogue is on sale now this week for $12.

Don't buy those. I have some extra digital codes I think for all the games. Shoot me a PM so I can remember to look when I'm home later.

by vf5 do you mean virtua fighter 5?

if so you're in luck because the 360 version has been playable on x1 for six months already

Ah I meant the standard boxed version. If I recall only the updated digital only version (forgot name) was made backward compatible right?

I could always pick up the digital one I guess

I hope they start rolling again soon.

February brought only 9 new games. Most months before were 20-25 games.

And March is halfway done and we are at 4 games.

(But to be fair, most of them were full releases and not small arcade games which are obviously faster to test)

Hah, this thread is great. 'BC is terrific!'
'Yeah but they won't release this one game, so gloom gloom gloom'
/repeat
It's funny because I think the reason why we're at this point is that most of us have almost a bulk of our favorite 360 games available now. Now it's just a game of "wait and see" for the last one or two we love to finally make its debut.

Like me and BOII.

There's still a lot missing from the library of great 360 games - and I understand that there is a lot of work to get there (and there has been a lot of work put in to get us where we are too!) - I'm still hoping for more from Capcom though.

(And please, vanilla Virtua Fighter 5 and some CAVE shooters)

Vanilla VF5 would be nice to have for its single player content
But I would prefer VF2 since we have VF5FS!

At this point, if I got Nier, MGS HD Collection, KoF XIII, and USFIV, I'd be satisfied. Culdcept Saga and Import Tuner Challenge will never happen, but I've made peace with it...

i just want dragon's dogma

After Capcom announced Resident Evil: Revelations as an upcoming XB1/PS4 port just this week, I think the writing is on the wall that Capcom prefers more opportunities to sell the same game on a new console versus going BC-freebie.

TBH a 'updated' PS4/XB1 version of Dragons Dogma would suit me down to the ground.

Yeah, looking at how the Dead Rising mini-campaigns were given BC support while the main games were not and instead remastered is probably the precedent for Capcom. At least for the time being.
