2016 releases

Recore - definitely
Gears of War 4 - for sure
Halo Wars 2 - pretty likely
Sea of Thieves - hell no
Quantum Break - of course
Crackdown - don't think so
Scalebound - very likely

One question.

Why isn't Ashen in the OP yet?

OzsK5As.gif
Looks way better than the other games in the OP but it's probably not in there because it isn't xbone exclusive.

Recore
Gears of War 4
Halo Wars 2
Sea of Thieves
Quantum Break
Crackdown
Scalebound
Killer Instinct Season 3

I'll be buying all of those except KI (I don't like fighters) or in the case of Sea of Thieves I will be downloading it because I'm very sure it'll be F2P.

For me they have a great line-up and I'm very excited for next year, I think its going to be a great year for gaming.

Mainstream hype? Or vocal minority hype?

Because aside from Gears, it's basically vocal minority hype.

I don't agree with what you're saying, at all.

But just to entertain your idea, I have to ask: So what, bro?

Sony made a name for it's first party studios last gen mostly with games that weren't a mainstream success, but were a success with critics.

What's wrong with Microsoft going the same route?

What if some of those titles becomes a big franchise, like Uncharted did?

Everything was 2016.

And then next year delayed to 2017.

And at E3 2016 everything will be 2017.

etc etc

Not to say that stuff doesn't look great. It's just so many things I want from both Sony and MS are "next year" and they always seem to be "next year".

343i has yet to miss a release date, even if it means the game doesn't work, so I'd say Halo Wars 2 is locked for next year.

Greenburg confirmed this morning that Crackdown and Scalebound are both 2016 titles. In Crackdown's case, they said multiplayer begins summer 2016. I imagine there will be a release for Sea of Thieves next year as well and seeing as how it's likely F2P it's probably just a first release of several.

What? I think it's great that Microsoft is putting out more first party stuff regardless of whether it is or isn't interesting to me. Just the fact that they're doing it is great because they need more first party IP.

That said, most of these games are still unknown to the mass market needed to make these successes which is why I questioned whether the hype was mainstream or just the vocal minority.

Seems like this holiday is going to be the ideal time to grab an XB1.

I'm hoping to get some great current games for cheap and then a lot to look forward to in 2016.

I understood what you meant.

What I asked is: does it matter?

It surely didn't for Sony last gen, why would it matter for Microsoft on this one?

Calling it now, there's no way Scalebound is coming out Holiday 2016 based on that showing. It's not happening. The game will get annihilated if it's released during that season anyway; it'd be buried in the mass of your usual annualised franchise fare.

It sound good on paper but we barely know about most of those games. Quantum Break, Scalebound and Forza Horizon 3 (you know it's gonna happen) are guaranteed hits tho.

The game is coming out in 15 months, PG still have plenty of time to polish what was shown today.

Not a reaction thread, only game there unannounced until today was Halo Wars 2. It was stacked before, I just wanna talk about how MS are delivering the goods after how abysmal the latter 360 years were.
It's crazy what the Kinect/TV and CoD era did to the Xbox brand lol. Shovelware Kinect titles plus too much focus on TV and too many devs chasing CoD design led to some stale years.

It's definitely been turning around.

I agree. There is lots of great games to play over the next 16 months. I find it hard to believe that someone cannot find something to like.

Impressions
  • Quantum Break - looks like a fantastic cinematic game experience with an intriguing story, awesome powers and satisfying gunplay. It's a Remedy game through and through, i.e. day one.
  • Scalebound - a Kamiya action RPG set in an open world, with dragons, with a hero that transforms, with awesome sword and bow combat, and four player co-op; what is not to like? I'm stoked for this. Yeah, it looks rough now, but we're like at least 15 months away from launch so there's plenty of time for optimisation.
  • Gears of War 4 - I'm digging the return to Gears' action horror roots; the new protagonists look young and inexperienced, which I think is the right choice because if they're terrified of the Locust, that makes it all the more easier for the player to feel the same way. Also, Liam McIntyre is Best Spartacus and I'll fight anyone who disagrees with me on that.
  • Crackdown 3 - you're a badass super agent with super powers hunting criminals, taking enemy strongholds and fighting mechs, all set in a huge, destructable city. WHAT?
  • Sea of Thieves - Rare is coming home with this one. The E3 teaser is early but looks fantastic.
  • Recore - CGI trailer looked really nice and the concept intrigues me.
  • Halo Wars 2 - loved the first game so much, I'm definitely getting this.
  • Ashen - the sombre tone and art direction speak to me.
  • We Happy Few - striking, and creepy. It's definitely got my attention.
  • Cuphead - game looks like an actual cartoon and it's a visual stunner. Gameplay doesn't look bad neither so I'm down.

Out of all of those I'd only play Scalebound so I hope the system is really fuckin cheap by the time it comes out.

That list is pretty underwhelming imo

Same. Had high hopes for Scalebound but that gameplay killed me. Quantum Break still looks interesting (mostly cause i like the actors though) and Sea of Thieves could be special if its not F2P micro transaction garbage.

Eh, only excited for Cuphead in 2016.

2015 is a much better year:
MGSV, World of Tanks, Forza 6, Halo 5.
I wont need another game till next gen.

It looked rough dude, and still somewhat early in development.

Its a vertical slice of a game probably still have content added to it, its got plenty of time left. It may be delayed but one section being shown at this point I don't think is indicative of that.

If nktnrl is believed, it was originally due for March 2016, which would be a delay already.

Ashen, Below, Sea of Thieves, Cuphead, Halo Wars 2 are all coming to PC as well.
Didn't know about Halo Wars 2 but forgot about Sea of Thieves. It's hard to keep track since it seems kind of random which games MS decides to put on PC. Either way, Ashen looks boss. :p

I thought Creative Assembly was developing Halo Wars 2 or are they just co-developing? Greenberg is an idiot so I wouldn't listen to him. Or any MS exec in this case, since they don't anticipate delays. I guess Sea of Thieves should be easy to release if it is F2P but then again, Fable Legends is taking its sweet ass time.

It's unusual normally Ms don't announce the following years line up before Christmas which leads to regular postings on gaf about how "MS doesn't have anything next year"

What do you mean. They announced a lot of the games they showed today 2 years ago and they're still not out.

If its 2 games per person on avg. That isn't a stacked deck in my opinion. Still way better than what they had this year though which is awesome.

I agree. Great for people that are interested in all of these games...I myself don't see enough to buy an X1 yet. Also, I have less and less time to game these days so I stick to RPGs and finish 1 a quarter.

I was just about to say, gamers forget things so soon. We are now in the goldfish epoch.

Exciting 12 or so months! Plenty to play as I plan to get most of what is listed.
As others have said, hopefully they are spread out over the year!
At least we know QB is in April and that is near the top of my list of games coming next year. Gears is #1.

Aside from QB did they say any other firm release dates? I just don't want them to pack things right in the last 3 months of 2016. They need to get that the rest of the year exists and games can do well in other times.

I just wanna know how they are gonna fit all thoes games in....
KI(season3), recore, and QB should all be in the first half of 2016...scalebound and Gears 4 have already been said to be "Holiday", but crackdown was just vague "2016"...Forza horizon 3 will probably be in September(assumption), and so I wonder where that could put sea of thieves, not to mention Halo Wars 2!!
Seems like a scheduling nightmare, but at the same time, I hope they can pull it off!

No way does Sea of Thieves arrive next year

I'm doubtful about Recore as well

343 oversees all Halo games and Bonnie Ross mentioned last year how they wanted to annualize Halo, so I highly doubt it misses that target release window. Creative Assembly isn't setting any dates.

I could see Scalebound or Sea of Thieves slipping since they're already at the end of the year, but Crackdown had Summer 2016 at the end of its trailer.

I think SoT will make it. Rare has been working on it since the first half of 2014 and had a playable build late last year when Spencer visited in November. All the footage for the E3 trailer was real-time from play sessions, plus a large portion of the Rare workforce is on it. By the end of 2016 that will be nearly 3 years of development, so I'm not sure why it's so unbelievable, especially when we know how Microsoft likes to manage to target release dates.

It pretty much works out to a new game every 30-60 days starting in March. It's not that unbelievable to me, but it's a much welcome change to their previous motion of saving all the big stuff for the end of the year.

KI Season 3 - March
Quantum Break - April
Recore - May or June
Crackdown - July or August
Forza Horizon 3 - September
Halo Wars - October
Sea of Thieves - October or November
Gears of War 4 - November

I agree, MS is finally selling me on getting an XBO.

BC, these exclusives.... Looking good MS. Looking good.

Recore - Summer
Gears of War 4 - Fall
Halo Wars 2 - Fall
Sea of Thieves- I think this is going to be F2P like Fable Legends.
Quantum Break - April
Crackdown - Fall
Scalebound - I see this getting delayed to early 2017.

Cuphead is early 2016. Probably before March.

If any of them are getting delayed its Recore imo. We've at least seen Scalebound.
