Xbox: "Price Increases Are Never Fun For Anybody", but "We try to provide players with more of what they’re asking for."

Speaking to The Verge, Microsoft director of gaming and platform communications Dustin Blackwell said, "We understand price increases are never fun for anybody, but we're trying to reinforce by adding more value to these plans as well."

He added: "It's something we don't take lightly, and we're listening to the feedback of players and the community to try to provide them with more of what they're asking for."

For Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft added more benefits to the membership like Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, along with improved streaming for Xbox Cloud Gaming. The membership rate is going up to $30/month, from $20, representing a 50% price hike. You should not pay $30/month for Game Pass Ultimate right now, though, as many retailers have not raised prices.

For PC Game Pass, the price is going up from $12/month to $16.50/month, and one of the new perks is access to around 50 more Ubisoft games. PC Game Pass will also continue to get Microsoft's new releases on day one just like Game Pass Ultimate.

360 USD a year is insane. For that money you could buy 2-3 big releases you actually care about on day one, plus a dozen great cheap games. TO OWN. And potentially resell.

This price increase is so bad that even my weather app commented on it yesterday lol

Bro nobody gives a fuck about outer worlds put cod back in there day 1 across all tiers.

Literally just create a separate CODpass, that'll work.

The damage is done at this point. They've simply priced too many people out of their ecosystem at this point, their console is too expensive and GP is a lot for most families/people given the economy right now. At this point I would be hesitant to buy anything MS in the future. I do enjoy Xbox I thnk their BC is and amazing offering but there is a point where the value isn't there and we are at that point and I think in general most people are just burnt out with all the recent price increase fatigue in general in just about every aspect of gaming right now.

They added Ubishit+ and Fortnite Poo to give the illusion of more value.

Look at it realistically, if you care enough about Fortnite to pay a monthly sub for it, you play it a lot. What are you doing when you are playing Fortnite? Not playing GamePass games. Hence lowering the amount of money MS potentially has to send to third parties.

Microsoft been jamming "value" down our throats since day one.
Best value i made was pulling out of that ecosystem. My playstation, PC and Switch2 are also now Xbox's in the odd event they have something i cant find elsewhere i suppose.

None of these business decisions make any sense. I bought a series x because I already had game pass since it was so cheap. I think they're doing this backwards. It's almost feels like intentional sabotage, either that or they know they can't sell any more hardware so they'll just make more money off the people that already own it smh.

Is that supposed to be some sort of equivalent to Gamepass? You get how little that is for one year right? Then take what you could get from Gamepass? I don't know why people just post here without thinking first.

As for the own thing most games are downloads now so you really aren't owning anything regardless.

Lucky for them I've been a fan since the OG days, but if I was a new fan looking to invest in a console, there would be nothing compelling to pick Xbox over PS. I don't see any great exclusives coming from them, and they seem to be leading the charge of "make games digital only".

Not fun for anybody? It's fun for them and their stockholders.

I've been a loyal subscriber since 2017 but now I'm out. I can imagine taking a month or so from time to time depending on the releases, but never again will I just subscribe month after month.

Realistically how many games do you play a year?

It doesn't matter that CDs are empty, you can still resell them once you done with the game.

Who asked for ubisoft classics and fortnite crew? I know I didn't. Why not give us a selection of perks that we can pick from, rather than forced shit most people do not want.

Honestly and this is as an Xbox fan and lover of their ecosystem for the most part this has been entertaining as hell. It's always astonishing how braindead corp suits are. They can never see anything further from
Their face than 4 feet not seeing the larger repercussions of these choices. They will then in 4 months time honor what happened to our numbers they're dwindling what could have possibly happened?!!

Brother, 360 dollars a year is not a lot for games? WTF.

That's more than the average American spends per year on their hobby, and we already had the hardware. Top it off, we can resell the games we bought and use that money to buy new games.

You can't resell anything on gamepass. They still make physical games brother! Gamefly is cheaper and you can choose the game(s) you want to play. I have spent a metric shit ton this year buying day 1 but even then $360 is a chunk of that. If I wanted to wait like a month on these games they drop to 40 bucks. Imagine how many I could buy with 360 dollars. I also own the games at that point. With gamepass for that 360 dollars after 1 year you have nothing.

So if I buy 360 dollars worth of games. Then I sell them for half price and I buy new games, I have an extra 180 dollars. Then I can resell those and probably get almost the same I spent on them, let's say another 100 dollars. Then I sell those for 50 dollars and just keep the rest. I have used like 700 dollars worth of games and I still have the games I choose to keep and I get to pick my games. How is gamepass console ultimate cheaper or even equivalent(because I don't get to pick my games)? We are not thinking? At the very least gamefly offers a better selection and is much cheaper if you are bound and determined to rent.

This is me right here.

"One coffee please"
"That would be $20"
"Damn that's a lot more expensive than the last time I was here"
"Yeah but you see sir, we've added a lot of value. We now have someone performing Interpretive dance behind the counter all day, our sound system now works with vinyl records and your coffee purchase grants you 24 hours access to our streaming service that plays random episodes of Young Sheldon 24/7"
"Can't you just not add all of that but keep the price the same?"
"....No"
