No idea what maniac came up with graphical parity again. It is a non issue.

a)
Having a native 4K renderer is straight forward while anything else like checkerboard (or using ESRAM) add complexity to your pipeline. A Dev would always prefer to use a native solution to a "have-to-do-some-tricks" solution. Thats why the Scorpio is designed to make it as easy as it can get to develop for the machine. Devs will start with native 4K anyway if the game also lands on PC. Scorpio will benefit from this the most because you don't need to adjust your standard render process you already have. This isn't true not only for UWP but also for games still using older Windows SDK environments.

b)
As many have already stated the clause in question was about game capabilities and features and not on graphics.

I wonder if they're going to hit native 4K with Scorpio for games like Battlefront 2 and RDR2. For some reason I never expected that for these two titles but I would fucking love it.

Hopefully next Thursday when MS says something about Scorpio it won't be about some new feature or something we know already. It has to be the announcement of some reveal.

Yeah, if true I expect them to just announce the official reveal date, which I expect to be at the end of the month or in early May.

It's gonna be fun to see the ps4 pro upscaled 4k vs scorpio native 4k video comparisons. There will be hardly any difference between the 2 but Sony PS4 pro version will have better smoother framerates.

Playstation will have the highest quality framerates?

How do you know? Remember when MS fought hard for parity accross third party games even tho ps was stronger and in some cases got the parity?

I would like to remember this but

CoD Ghosts ended up being one of the ugliest looking launch games on the xbox and was clear as fuck on the PS4.

That parity clause btw was for indie titles launching on the xbox.....had nothing to do with the damn look of games.

So it'll be like the first years of this generation but the systems have been swapped.

You mean graphical parity? If so, can you please back that up.
This was the closest we got to any sort of confirmation that Microsoft might have been pushing for this:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...nity-graphics-lock-for-parity-on-ps4-xbox-one

Seems questionable at best, but Microsoft did have a marketing deal in place for Unity and it would have been in their best interest not to promote a better looking version on PS4. A bit like RDR2 actually.

What about CoD Ghosts?
Witcher 3?
[Insert virtually every other MS marketed game here]

You seriously don't believe that MS forced Ubisoft have parity do you? Lol. The Black Flag part of that article about it being 1080p on PS4/900 on Xbox doesn't mean much when it was cross gen, the bigger problem there was more that it wasn't 1080p on Xbox aswell tbh as far as I'm concerned.

Sony has the exclusive marketing rights to Red Dead Redemption 2. Which means Jez is 100% full of shit.

If this doesn't confirm that he isn't pulling things out of his ass, nothing will.

"exclusive marketing rights" for a game has to be one of the most disgusting things i have heard in a while.

It's better than "(timed) exclusive content but only for owners of platform X because fuck owners of platform Y and Z".

It's amazing how many people still confuse the old Xbox Indie release parity clause for some sort of graphical parity clause.

that stupid clause to my knowledge is still in effect is it not? one of the most childish of microsoft policies. spencer can fuck off until this is remedied.

it was over nearly 2 years ago, there may be some remnants.....but for the most part in 2015 it was gone due to the backlash it had.

You just single out one game to make your point. There are alot of "marketing" games that MS had but ran "worse". Division, Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4 right at the top of my head.

The whole reason Unity on PS4 was 900p was because that was really the max. And it still ran like crap like the Xbox version. There is no way the PS4 version could have been 1080p.

RDR 2 and Battlefront 2 in native 4K I would not have expected, so pretty tasty news if true

fwiw I do believe Jez sources are legit

Scorpio will also be capable of higher res textures, higher poly models, more tesselation, and better level of detail. That's what 12GB of 320gb/s of ram will provide. There will be a noticeable difference. Saying it's hardly any is a joke

Depends on what they go for. I would imagine for a MP game they could scale it down too 1800 cb rendering to hit a locked 60 (or close to it).

Well marketing deals for Scorpio aren't that important because is a niche product that will make around 1/4 of the total sales of the XBox One family, (which are around half of playstations), and the Hardcore MS fans are gonna buy it regardless ;)

So I think they are doing the right thing focusing on the games (first party, japanase deals etc) because that's much more importand for the XBox brand

But it is still Xbox, so it's interesting if MS can be showing off RDR2 on Scorpio. But we don't know if that means during E3 or maybe until after it has been shown on PS4? Guess we'll find out but I sure didn't expect it because of Sony's deal with Rockstar again.

As for RDR2 itself I just hope we get some updates sooner or later, been long enough and hopefully it actually launches this year.

They also posted this yesterday:

http://m.windowscentral.com/project-scorpio-dev-roadmap-june-xdk-boost

Giving some info on the current xdk state, and even dropped a potential bombshell in that games that used dynamic scaling using a system specific method, will be native 4k on Scorpio without a patch. On twitter he latter clarified that there are some sources reporting some conflicting information about this, and it could be both native or just an upscale (though I assume upscale to 4k will be done regardless as S already does, so why it would need a specific method?).

He also says that Ms is making really easy for non uwp games to patch Scorpio support, including new assets for it, which is great as well.

It's kinda why they posted the article. He can be deceived by his sources, but apparently it's indeed native 4k.

Outside of native res Scorpio will have higher quality assets due the extra ram, and it could potentially sport some Vega features like better tessellation engine.

Also according to Jez, using Scorpio games can test/debug/profile the game once and get performance results from both Scorpio and xbone and Ms won't allow a worse frame rate on Scorpio, so it seems developers will have a very streamlined way to ensure the game runs great on Scorpio even with the extra graphic settings.

Scorpio dev kits have an LCD front panel that devs can use to see stats in real time too, pretty cool.

I read somewhere that the Scorpio dev kit will be the only dev kit going forward, and will cover the standard XB1 builds too. Or maybe I dreamt that.

No, Jez definitely said that. He said that a single scorpio devkit can be used to debug games on xbone, and even the pc version. So a developer can test the game and check how it's running on all supported platforms at once.

He also said bluetooth support as well!

Won't use for controllers, but it will be nice for accessories.

I just don't understand why though. Why can't MS finally support Bluetooth for everything now? There are many very good wireless headsets but they just aren't fully wireless because Xbox doesn't support Bluetooth. On Reddit someone claimed the reason Xbox One doesn't have any Bluetooth headsets is thanks to a deal Mattrick made with Turtle Beach years ago. And that Phil even tweeted about that a while ago that he wasn't happy with that at all.

Is this true?

That must mean they have someway of sectioning of a amount of scorpios ram to emulate Esram then (I wonder what speed the ram is then.) This will hopefully make development across all three platforms even easier for devs which will help them grow their pc storefront, fully utilize scorpio and prevent xbox one not being fully utilized. It's a smart strategy especially for japanese developers that are starting to make more Pc versions. I wonder at what point will all stores be fully integrated across the board were if you wan't to release a game on the xbox platform it must include a xbox one, scorpio and pc version all in a uwp wrapper. I'm interested to see how third party's react to that considering a lot of them have their own storefronts.

The current headset situation on the xbox one is a joke, turtle beach is the only company that can truly offer a wireless experience. However if they allow bluetooth for chat, it means my new Siberia 840's can be used completely wireless as well.

I refuse to buy another headset after how much I love my 840's

Sounds like that can be very handy for developers. Either way it sounds like Scorpio is a great machine for developers to work with. I think it's pretty clear MS learned from their mistakes and wanted something really good now.

Whether or not MS is going to change things around first party wise, Scorpio will be great for multiplatform games.

Deep in that thread you also find this. Not sure if it is April fools related though!

I'm assuming a native 4K/60fps GTAV Mega Raptor Godzilla Bankroll Fuckboy Club Final Ultra Edition is a lock for Scorpio.

I don't think so (speaking personally, not official MS position)... I think I read that the protocol Xbox uses is higher bandwidth and lower latency than Bluetooth, so a better overall experience and can support multiple controllers with headsets for one machine or presumably higher quality audio to headset. I don't have a source but remember some stuff like that.
E: Also you have Bt Xbox controllers, for PC connection

Scorpio being the power of a gtx 1070 roughly plus the added benefit of dev console optimisation and console no fuss nature. Also hopefully costing no more than a PS4 Pro. Would people even bother buying or building a PC when graphics are already going to be amazing. I wonder.

Jez tweeted its not an April Fools joke

You know the rule about noon as well

April Fools is gone and past, and you April Fools at last

Scorpio preview is very soon

Are we sure Jez ain't playing an April fools joke on us regarding the announcement next week.

But wasn't all of that said on the 31th?

That would make sense then but it still sucks. Hopefully Scorpio can bring some change to that because there are plenty of great fully wireless headsets like one from Logitech, Steelseries and so on.

anyone who's hoping for jaguar is trying so hard to satisfy their own agenda ignoring the rest of the specs.

Jaguar or not, it will have plenty of power till the next Xbox.
