Ok, for the Ares, farming 72 creare glyph's for the Ether Damage augments is going to be way too grindy so I'm going for the Damage Above ones instead.

Ether damage augments are almost pointless because the armor already hits the soft cap by itself. I think putting one on the frame helps a little, but other than that there's no point.

Damage Front on the frame might be a little more useful though when going up against the Telethia, which flies so high you can't actually get above it in some parts of the fight, but damage above works good on everything else. The most useful combination of augments for attack power are Custom.WeaponAtk on the ether laser thingy and 3-4 anti-creature type augments on whatever other parts. The base ranged attack up augments on the top level skell ground gear in the shop are quite nice, and you can farm arm pieces for Infinite type skell ground gear with very high accuracy and attack up...somewhere, I forget exactly where. A little bit of GP up helps too, since there's parts of the Telethia fight where you'll likely be losing GP, and you want to hit Overdrive as soon as its invincibility phase ends.

The most important thing really is getting one or two evade up augments on the Skell frame and the evade drive augments onto your ground gear.

Anyone done the quest with a Orphean trying to drug animals to become their master?
I'm glad that he got someone good at the end, I felt sorry for him every time I passed him in the residential district.

Thanks.

What are all the tyrants the base Ares will have trouble with that I'll want the anti creature mods for?

So far I've got the obvious Telethia, then the two Milesaurs (one in Primordia, headless one in Oblivia), and that regenerating guy in the cave in Noctilum.

Is pretty much everything in the game killable with an Ares, or will I need some super specialised builds?

Note I'm only worrying about tyrants that fill in a segment, once I hit 100% I'm done :p

Huh. So, the Nopon Shinshin
wasn't actually lying, there was a Divine Nopopon and an actual legendary Nopon sword too.

Although this makes me wonder... Is there a real version of the
Nopon Monado rip-off too?

I think there are only a few items that can't be replaced with identical buyable gear - the only things that come to mind are Celica and L's outfits and the Ramjet Rifle.

Guys I have the game just sitting here but honestly I'm a bit apprehensive in trying it.

I'm burned out on Fallout and I want to jump into something new but I couldn't finish the first Xenoblade because I really didn't like the characters or story very much but I loved the atmosphere. It sounds like X is more of the same. Boring characters, weak story but amazing atmosphere. I don't just want amazing atmosphere. Its why i'm burned out on F4 there is just nothing else pulling me in.

I just worried because its such a time investment.

I'm not sure whether you'd like it - I guess it depends on what you found specifically lacking in the first game. The main story and the characterisation of the protagonists are commonly found to be even weaker than the first game by most players, but those elements are also a lot less central here; with the bulk of the game taken up by a very varied set of self-contained side stories and a focus on the growth of the central setting. If you liked the way the first game set up its world and atmosphere, there might be enough there to pull you through; seeing as it only improves on their prior effort in that regard.

You may've seen my Fallout disappointment thread. I just finished Fallout and I find myself much more interested in this game! Pumped to get a Skell and love the battle system.

Most cutscenes are pretty cringe worthy so far though...

I did see that thread you made I pretty much agreed with everything you put.

Just be warned that the first three chapters are very weak - there's a lot of dull exposition and hand-holding which isn't indicative of the next 90+ hours. Most of the strengths of the game only really become apparent afterwards, once you can start getting into the sidequests.

XCX is better than XC is pretty much every way. I'd say XC is a 6/10 and XCX is an 8.5/10. Also as a point of reference I thought FO4 was boring as shit and quit about 15 hours in, but loved Witcher 3 and put like 90 hours into it.

The characters aren't necessarily better, but the writing and dialogue is much more distinct and creative with fewer tropes. The story itself I actually find far better even if it is a bit minimalist (probably a strength and something more JRPGS need to do.) I'm about 40 hours in and still compelled by the scenario.

Totally worth trying, but if you're burnt on open world maybe play something short and arcade as a palette cleanser. XCX is huge and takes about 60-70 hours to complete the main story from what I hear.

Also, don't expect it to play like a western rpg. The influence is there for sure, but this is something pretty different from your standard wrpg or jrpg.

Alright, 92% done and 135 hours in. I'm almost there.

Have the last few missions to finish up, then I need to max out Mia, Phog and Frye (plus Alexa and Yelv but they don't count for completion% ;_;) and do their affinity missions and heart to hearts, then grind some augments for my Ares to take down the powerful tyrants.

The end is in sight *___*

Over 27 hours in and I'm still enjoying it. Now that I have my Skell I'm taking the time to do more affinity missions and I like how they deleve into the characters a bit more. The quests could use some variety but what are you gonna do.

One thing that keeps surprising me is how often a monster that COMPLETELY out levels my party will wander into a fight I need to finish for a mission and make it nearly impossible. This has happened on a handful of missions, and it just strikes me as a bit odd. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a good way to draw aggro on monsters and lure them away from the OP monsters tracking? Because I haven't found an obvious one yet. Maybe try attacking and then have the party asemble on me? Just thought of that.

Are the
Zaruboggan
a post-game race or do they show up before you beat the game if you finish certain missions? Man
that mission where the Manon steals their breathing stick thing could have turned out horribly.

Go to Mission Console on your barrack (the one that look like your barrack console) or the same console that you use for doing time attack mission.

Edit: There's various support mission, for BP, Mineral, Affinity, etc

Ah okay, cool. I havent been there since before chapter 12. Gonna take a look tonight!

I think you can do the mission introducing them before Chapter 9 - I think I remember
having Lao in my party for it
, at least.

Fairly minor and off set by WiiU's not connected or Volkampfs not killed, as Japan would indicate by Volkampf undershooting the LTD. Japan has a ~15% disparity or so in favor of LTD > Volkampf, if I recall numbers right.

Game's doing alright then, good.

Has anyone made a quick and dirty list of what augments to put in the Ares 90 that is good for a jack of all trades kind of thing? I got the thing last night and am looking for something to keep farming for but have absolutely 0 experience with any of the augmenting system at all (didn't use it during my single player playthrough) so I have no idea what half of them are called.

From what I can tell (after an hour of research), people are recommending the following? I think?
Note: I'm not near the console, so I have no idea how many Augment Slots the thing has.

Frame = (1) PositionDmg.SIDE XX
(1)PositionDmg.ABOVE XX
(1) [open slot?]

Armor = (3x) Ether Resist Up (SpecUp.ETHER-RES XX) [This is for Teletihia only?][It seems?]

Agni Gatling = (3x) Weapon Speed Up (Custom.WP-SPEED XX), Upgrade internal weapon SPEED to max.

Other Weapons = (1) Negate Reflect Nether (Reflect.NEG-ETHER XX)
(1) Negate Reflect Thermal (Reflect.NEG-THERMAL XX)
(2) Slayer.[WhateverYourFighting] XX
(2) Ranged Accuracy up (SpecUp.R-ACC XX)
(2) Draw Opening [One from chest, craft the other?)
(2) Ranged Attack Up (SpecUp.R-ATK XX)

Ground Gear = Ultra Infinite Skell Wear ? Where the heck do I get/farm this?

If I'm totally wrong please correct me. I'm just trying to make a list of "Stuff to Farm" so I have something to keep shooting for while playing this game. I need something to get after grabbing the Ares 90!

This game's affinity system would have been far better served if there were way less characters and it didn't nudge you towards Elma and Lin for all the story missions. As it is, I couldn't give a fuck about doing half the cast's. It's such a waste too since a lot of these characters aren't interesting in the slightest.

Also, just did chapter 11. Story kind of went into dumb territory. I get it, it makes some amount of sense, but it sure felt dumb.

The skells are the worst and best part of this game. I loved getting a skell, but the combat is simultaneously boring and overpowered. You have few reasons to use ground combat after that, even though I find it way more dynamic. Flying is great, but it also trivializes the world.

Finally, if another one of these quests ends in collection, I'm just going to move on to chapter 12.

Now that all the ranting's out of the way, I really liked all the xeno stuff in this game. Reminded me of Mass Effect.

I was looking at GameXplain's guide to the stuffed lobsters (other half is a separate video), and I noticed at the end that the music in NLA was different. Does the BGM change there at some point in the game? I like the current NLA music ("uh, uh, UH"), so I hope it doesn't go away entirely.

I think you are just confusing it with the Flying Skell music, which plays every time your Skell flies. Which also means you won't hear past the beginning of any other outworld theme nor the flying music because 80% of the time you will be constantly landing and flying with your skell back and forth.

Alright, there's no way that's a coincidence. I wrote in the spoiler topic that I think he's set up to be revealed as the main villain for game two.

Are you saying the affinity missions themselves are a waste because the characters are boring, or that it's a waste to have affinity requirements because it leads to people skipping over the affinity missions? In any case, I didn't find the system to be completely terrible; but it was a little frustrating at times; even with cycling out characters constantly to waste as few points as possible on Elma and Lin. And while I liked most of the cast, the size of the party did lead to them being severely underdeveloped, limited both in total screentime and interactions with other characters.

Chapter 12 was so much better than the rest of the game in that regard -
having every essential party member show up in cutscenes even if they weren't part of the active party allowed them to actually have some sort of presence, instead of standing mute behind Elma and Lin
. A shame that the approach they used there probably wouldn't have worked in the rest of the missions.

Though in regards to the way Elma and Lin are forced on you, I do think they could have gotten away with relaxing the member requirements for affinity missions with cutscenes that only take place in NLA; where it'd make sense for Elma and Lin to just show up for the cutscenes - take L's Conundrum for example; where it's plausible that they'd wait in NLA doing their normal BLADE work until you return with what L needs. Similarly, there are affinity missions that either Elma or Lin could have been written out of completely with very little changing.

The Affinity System is a great idea on paper but for some reason Monolith Soft always make it tedious to gain it affinity. At least in the original you could gift collectibles in between characters but it was kind of hard still if you don't constantly rotate them and since you also had character affinity between party members AND you also had to be making sure that the characters in the party were not maxed out between them to try to optimize the whole process. ugh.

I do wonder if some of the DLC characters could have been blocked and only made available in the post-game since a lot of people use them instead of Gwin and end up being blocked to Chapter 11 or at least unlock more early the Support Mission to raise affinity.

Oh well.

So, where do you buy
Nopon
weapons?

I'm had them as an AM for a hot minute now. I've maxed out all the other AMs I have. So now I'm working on these guys, but have no idea where I'm supposed to buy their stuff. I had held off on wasting resources since it isn't listed on the merchants console...

Same place as the rest of the gear. Their outfit does not develop armor which may be confusing you.
Neither does Factory 1.21 Gigawats

There weapons aren't showing up. Do they only make certain types? I'm rifle/sword. But I look when gearing my other members as well. I've never seen anything from them in the store.

Edit: Well hell, looks like the game glitched when I finished the prerequisites to unlock them. Tell me I'm not missing out on anything amazing...

Edit2: I guess that means I can stop wasting Miranium on them...

The Nopon AM only make Shields, Rayguns and Double Guns weapons with Thermal attribute.

The other A.M
Factory 1.21
I think only makes Longswords, Assault Riffles and I think Machine Guns but I need to check a little more.

I like her too, but it seems that they wanted to follow the 3 missions per character route. She's so hyper!

bruh this chick really wants to eat tatsu

I guess that's one interpretation; but I think that was left a little too ambiguous to really say for sure. It needed so much more focus than it got - as it is now, I think Lin has one or two lines that aren't about Tatsu, which underplays the whole thing far too much.

Ah, I see. I'm OK with that. Once I my get skell, I still plan to spend most of time traveling by foot. I like the super-run and moon jump too much! I also enjoy jumping all over the place while shooting my guns like I'm fucking Looney Tunes.

Yeah, but that hasn't helped haha. To give an example, I was doing the Skell weapon test mission, and I had a choice to kill 5 smaller tweets or one big one, and anytime I went for the big one, a massive enemy plows right into the fight and wipes me out in seconds. Both enemies are huge and ranged or no its pathing still collides into the fight and it immediately aggros.
