Xenoblade X import videos/streams thread

She is actually a good tank in the game, you might not want to eject her so quickly.
I think in one streams lyn had almost as much HP as the doll/skell

She could be the best character in the game, gameplay/stat wise, and I still won't use her.

I'd really love to hear some honest to god impressions from people instead of this pre-release hype train nonsense. I haven't played a JRPG in quite some time, and honestly just want some decent impressions.

Seems like people are either A. talking about the music or B. Love anything and everything JRPG regardless of quality.

tony has the game and he just gave an impression, people have also been talking about how just everything is a improvement over xenoblade in terms of making things easier for the player, and by just watching the stream, you can see so many little things that add to it, there are just a ton of regular quests that are voiced acted cutscenes and not just dialogue and text

I asked a streamer if he could show me the options menu. There were 4 categories for options (HUD, parameter, social and a fourth one I forgot). I know a bit of Japanese and there were no audio options, unfortunately. The parameter settings only contain options for the camera.

Yeah, I'd also like to turn the music off. It's not because of the vocals, but some pieces contain elements that just make me facepalm as a composer: poor loops (just silence at the end and then it repeats from the beginning), atonal melodies (e.g. character creation theme: no, this doesn't sound futuristic, it's just terrible), cheap copy/paste-samples (that atrocious NLA night theme) and rhythm that is all over the place (e.g. night theme of the first area: seriously, why does he put a snare on 2 and 4e and not on 2 and 4? No exotic music uses this and it just ruins the beat).

Are you sure you know what the world atonal means? None of the music for this game is anything remotely in that realm. There's plenty of modal and extended tertian stuff though. There are also clashing timbres, but none of that is anything near consistent with atonality in any form if you take the time to dictate the pitches present. They're all very standard and by-the-books tonality.

With regards to the rhythm, African tribal music typically exhibits the traits you outlined. Calypso music also shares some of these rhythmic patterns. Early Trinidadian pan music has this in most of the kit parts too. Brazilian drumming as well.

I'll give you the samples though. I'll probably refrain judgement till I actually have the OST in hand to get a better idea of what's going on in an unobscured format. The loop issue isn't so much him as it is the sound design team; they're the ones responsible for that issue you have.

But even then, I don't think his style is really anything to facepalm about as a composer. It seems more that his music doesn't really share your sensibilities, and that's fine if you want to just say you don't like them. Your complaints come across more of the things you don't like rather than things he's done wrong, because you should know as a composer that there isn't really a "right way" to make music.

"pre-release".

IOW, the game isn't out yet...even in Japan. You want impressions from us?
Good luck with that.

The game's not out, Foolishfellow.

How is the game in terms of difficulty? The first one felt pretty difficult because I'd try not to overlevel due to the evasion boost for enemies. Is it like that here?

Keep in mind I'm garbage at all RPGs and I'm not all the way through the first tittle yet. Just got to Colony 6 refugee camp.

Such a hard thing to resist watching footage of this. I don't want anything spoiled, but after watching that 1-hour Treehouse gameplay vid I'm already having withdrawal from it. I just can't wait to get hands-on with this game.

Literally the only game I'm genuinely excited for right now. Makes me feel 18 again.

Enemies will ignore you if you're 10 levels higher.

Those loot-collect quest is hard if you don't remember enemies' habitat. :|

Also my only complain is those ant text.

Which is silly considering he's probably watching this on a computer screen far smaller than the TV it is going to be played on.

Huh? Going by his other posts he has a copy of the game. Even if he is streaming, I don't see why he'd use the preview window to play due to the delay.

I love and completely agree with this post! I came to say something similar to the bolded. The percussion element is common in a lot of Soca and Calypso music. I don't see the problem if the percussion elements aren't rigid either? A lot of songs with heavy percussion aren't stuck evenly to a grid on purpose; has a more human feel.

So this just happened

My dorm doesn't allow using the TV for gaming though, so I'll have to rely on Off-TV gameplay. Can anyone tell me if that's do-able, or is the text too small?

I tell ya, if I still had the money I had 5 years ago when I lived with my parents... I'd have a Japanese Wii U and this game on order already. I'd be all over it like Hugh Hefner on a bunny girl.
