Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

Is Yakuza 6 good? I'll be crushed if it's more like 5 than 0. But I'm worried that the fighting engine looks so claustrophobic.

His not - There is absolutely no indication in any of the Yakuza titles that he is.
He takes great liberty in light consensual sex with multiple hostesses whenever there is an opportunity. He also has tremendous constraint when he feels like a deeper relationship is at stake (because of his every present involvement and association with the Tojo Clan).

See Y1 through Y6.

Obligatory (not Y1 through Y6)

Also in Y3 there is a heat action where he fucks someone with his clothes on. But I'm pretty sure this is just cheeky "lol gay" crap and not that he's gay. But I haven't played Yakuza 2. Would it really detract from the story if he were gay? I think it'd be pretty cool.

There's only two cities and one character this time, so 5's bloat doesn't look like it'll be an issue. If anything, I keep hearing it has somewhat of the opposite problem. Kamurocho is supposedly smaller, etc. The switch to a new engine supposedly taxed the devs a bit, but there's nice QoL boosts aside from better graphics, too, such as every single side story being voiced.

I can't wait for it. From what I see on GAF it seems like impressions are pretty good.

you're also going to need about 36 GB free space, because WTF SEGA.
That's cause it's the full game. Should you choose to buy it, you can just continue from that save.
oh man, okay. i would love the chance to play the demo.

i have to say though for a series that has always been 60, it's gonna feel very off at first going back down to 30
Sorry to tell you bud but the series has more 30 fps games than 60. 0 and ishin's ps4 versions are the only Yakuza games that run entirely in 60 fps.

Hm? You mean the PS4 versions of the PS3 games right? Series otherwise has always been 30 fps.

If there is something that doesn't surprise me it is that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have these weird systems in place haha.

for some reason I was under the impression that all of the games were 60fps, maybe because most fighting games are.

oh I actually didn't know that. It's been a while since I played Yakuza 3 and I didn't play 5 that much.

anyways, didn't play the original game either so I'm really excited to play Kiwami, not only that but to see how they piece 0's narrative to it as well.

While I don't mind going back to 30 fps, what really annoys more than anything is the screen tearing...which sucks because it only gets resolved on PS4 Pro and not the base/slim systems.

Btw you don't actually need to download the full 36 GB. For the part of the game that you're allowed to access the initial 12-13 GB download is enough.

So yea..I've kinda become addicted to the cabaret club mini-game. I was supposed to be doing the main story but forgot about it all together lol.

I love giving the girls makeovers. I had to look up the song that plays in the menu quick.

Finally finished at 78:49 with only 60.96% complete. It was one hell of a ride and one of the best endings I've seen in a long time.

Ive noticed tearing once or twice on my pro when panning really fast. Is it common on base systems?

It's not super common, to the point of being annoying, but it happens enough to were I'd consider it a problem, usually happens if you run and quickly pan the camera, but I only ever noticed it when in Kamurocho, never happens in combat or any minigames or anything.

Y6 is like one step forward, 2 steps back. Kinda think of it like Yakuza 3 of this next batch really.
The price of being the first Dragon Engine/PS4 only title unfortunately, but one hopes that we'll see a dramatic Y1->Y2 leap in Y7 or Y3->Y4.

There's no Pro patch since this game came out in Japan a while before the PS4 Pro released, so it only gets resolved if you have the Beta for the newest PS4 update, which will introduce Boost mode (gets better performance out of non-patched games).

So unless you're in the Beta for the next OS update, as is, both the standard and Pro PS4 are the same, with slight screen-tearing when panning around quickly.

I hope we go back to Akiyama for Y7. He's such a great character. He just needs some new fighting styles, because I find his old one pretty boring.

Honestly the Akiyama/Saejima/Tanimura trio was amazing,
with Kaz joining them as the mentor character at the end
. I was really upset Tanimura wasn't in 5. I liked Shinada well enough, and his baseball stuff was a refreshing aspect of a character to focus on, but he wasn't as enjoyable as Tanimura, or any of the other playable characters actually.

Akiyama and Saejima both felt like they were in Y5 just for the sake of being in it, too.

Holy shit I want to do this. If i haven't beaten 0 yet, are there any spoilers in the demo?

The scene
with Majima and Nishitani in jail
is probably my favorite so far. How much more do i have left guys?
still a fairly hefty chunk.

agreed, they just all felt so distinctive in their playstyles.

Shinada in comparison just felt like a Hodge podge of fighting styles. Striker + Grappler + weapon specialist?

Be brokenly strong though, Akiyama's combos all ending in a heat move would pretty much kill everyone outside of some bosses. Be fun too though.

I was thinking something like have them be 2 different styles. Having both styles usable at the same time would indeed be broken.

Wow, just beat the cabaret club management stuff as Majima. That was amazing. I wasn't expecting to care about it at first, but then all of a sudden I couldn't stop playing it. I haven't touched the main story in days, just focusing on the club every night when I play.

It was practically an entire game itself with a decent story and some great characters. Loved the ending after the final boss and dat unlock you get. Goddamn.

Question about said unlock for beating the club management
How do you get to the outer abilities for the Mad Dog style? The other styles unlocked through managing the club, but now that's over so I'm assuming it's something else. Is it just Story progress?

Although highly unlikely, it wouldn't detract much. Kiryu is very discrete with his intimacy outside of the one night stands.

Just finished the story. Absolute best final act out of the Yakuza games I've played (3,4,5, and Dead Souls).

One of those games that you didn't want to end.

3 things

Fuck the slot car racing.

Fuck the advanced baseball (had to have a friend aim for me while I hit)

Fuck the cat fighting

Pretty much everything else is amazing. I ended up beating 4 of the 5 billionaires and now I'm at the beginning of chapter 7. 46 hours in so far

So this is my first Yakuza game. I've been interested in the series since I saw some videos from 4 and it looked amazing and insane and fantastic but I was afraid to jump in that deep into a series especially when it had a lot of call backs and tie ins to previous exploits of Kiryu and the Yakuza world. I was hoping we'd get that feudal Japan one because I thought that'd be a cool opportunity to play one without needing to know any backstory or characters or lore but it never came out here.

Glad this came out so I can play and enjoy this, then jump into the remake of 1 when that is out here and I read that there may be a remake of 2 coming? Either way, after the 1 remake and if there isn't a 2 remake coming I might just read some wiki entries for 2 and 3 and jump in to 4 and then 5 on the PS3 (PS+) then get 6 on PS4. Loving this game, just loving the characters and vibe and atmosphere.

Are there any tells or anything that indicate if you will be successful to extend a cabaret session?
Look at the rich and very rich client bubbles. They will tell you if the client has a preference for short or long conversations. Extending happy clients with a preference for long convos work more often than not.

so, I just started playing this after winning one of the giveaway digital copies <3, just finished the first boss and OMG I'm thrilled already
(the bathroom scene LMAO)
, I always had the thought that Yakuza games started slowly, but in this one you step right (and fast!) into the action and this emotionally driven story.

also, I'm loving how fast it is to go through menus, places and dialogues this time, feels good when you don't need to wait much between fights, buying and eating stuff, going to the karaoke, playing some space harrier lol

I see that lots of ppl are praising the story in this thread, so now I'm curious, how would you fellow GAF members rank the writing next to the previous installments?

I'm currently playing through 4, so not really the best to judge, but so far I've found 0 far better storywise, I think I'm about halfway through 4 and the story is fine, but hasn't really grabbed me yet, whereas at that point in 0 every chapter ended with me wanting more and I couldn't wait to get back.

Y4 was the first title with multiple protagonists and it shows.

Each character has a good storyline but when it gets it's grip on you, it changes characters suddenly and all of that expectation is quickly gone.

The finale is amazing but having to deal with that pacing hurts the experience of the game.
