I don't really know anything about the main devs and the reasons they put in things like the hostess club or telephone club, but I get the impression that they just put in stuff they themselves find funny or sexy or a combination thereof. You couldn't make a game this fun and alive and also self-aware if it was just pandering to an audience. Not that I even know what audience this game would be pandering to. I mean someone in this thread said their fiancée was addicted to the hostess club.

There's certainly a lack of strong female characters in the game, and there's an amount of objectification going on, but that's probably sadly accurate in the yakuza underworld. Then again there's also a fair amount of sidestory female characters with their own agenda in the game who try to screw Kiryu/Majima over or get something from them, and don't really play the subservient stereotype. It's a mixed bag, but it doesn't feel intentionally creepy or over-sexualized like MGSV Quiet. The videos are the closest thing to pandering in the game, but they're so silly that it's hard to take them seriously. Maybe if someone has a balloon fetish.

Yeah, Y0 has been pretty detrimental to my sleep schedule. It's always throwing "just one more thing" at me.

Same here...the only game that goes well into the late late hours...

I feel asleep multiple times during some important story dialog and had to start over the next day :) PS4 "Stand by" mode is nice though.

Legendary Shakedown man is grown ass man. I'm legitimately trying to get my money back 😐.

Got beat down 5 times in a row.

I'm pretty sure all of those videos were provided by Soft On Demand which is one of Japan's largest porn producers. They're known for having a unique style.

The fanservice in Yakuza 0 is goofy yet still well made and classy. Heck, talking to Yuki in Special Training is so sweet and she's a hostess.

And I can't play Y0 for too long. It's so text heavy. Lol

Right, I can't wait for Kiwami, so I've started 5. Any decent sidequest guides out there, so I don't miss anything? I don't see myself investing as much time in this as I did in 0, but then again I didn't see myself spending 75 hours in 0, so who knows. Anything as good/engaging as the cabaret and real estate in the game? I remember the hostess game in 4 being a little eeeh in comparison.

At the end of my tether doing the batting cage. I get to 4 million in the EXGold Course and just capitulate without fail. The main reason I stopped going for the platinum last year.

I haven't done that yet but I remembered this post. Maybe it will help.

I hate the Batting Mini-game. lol. What I did was do the Super Gold Rush. Look at the bat, as soon as it stops and the character loosens their stance, hit the ball. Don't even look at the ball and just put the target where you want and swing when the animation shifts. It will still take some getting used to, but that's the gist of it.

I cheesed the "5 Million Yen from Batting" CP goal by batting in Super Gold Rush only until the 6th hit and then quitting to repeat. You should get about 1 million yen in profit. Doing that versus trying to go through the whole thing and risking losing it all was optimal for me.

Ultimate Battles, it depends which one as some people seem to have trouble with different ones. For me Proving Grounds 8 was about the worst.
Majima has a limited time to beat all goons while his style randomizes. Try to take advantage of Breaker's spin move with Square, Square, Square, Triangle. Slugger's Nunchaku with Square, Square, Triangle mash. And use the Fish cannon in Thug Mode.
The platinum forum has some tips for the others.

Edit: Derp. You meant the Ultimate Battles, not Climax Battles in general. Lemme see. Which one are you on? For this set, Number 2 was the worst for me.
Sera here is super powerful and fast. Use Breaker's Spin Dance, but keep your distance and make sure to press X to dodge backwards if you are at all too close to standing Sera. He has lots of armor. So set up the "Square, Square, Square, Triangle" away from him and try zoning in to hit him from the back. When he kicks you out of it, just press Triangle to counterattack and move away from him to repeat.

Might actually start doing crossfit to this soundtrack

Hidenori Shoji also did the awesome soundtrack to F-Zero GX.

Kuze's theme is my favourite

Followed by Two Dragons Which is the Keiji Shibusawa fight theme

I bloody love the introduction of some boss fights (specifically every Kuze fight except the 3rd one and the very last fight) with how the music starts with slow tempo and volume, then they charge/screaam at each other, the screen freezes to display the name of the boss and the music kicks in at full tempo followed by the fight....it feels very epic.

Is seeing everyone bumed out about chapter 14 a spoiler? Like when I get to that part will I know what's going to happen or is it not a big deal?

Nah, I think you'll be fine. Most of the stuff that happened in the last third of the game or so, I totally didn't see coming.

Whoa, a lot of hype regarding the later chapters. Hopefully I won't be spoiled as I'm currently on Chapter 6 doing side missions.

Anyone else feel that Yakuza 3 had the best sound track? Every time I listen to it I feel motivated to punch or something.

This game's OST edges out Yakuza 3 but only very slightly IMO. I agree that Yakuza 3's makes me want to punch something but Yakuza 0 has a more varied selection of tracks.

Both are amazing in their own right.

The greatest personal accolade I can dish out to Yakuza 0 is it is the first game I have played all night through to sunrise, since Sensible World of Soccer.

It has the highest number of tracks I love.

And then there is my favourite track in the whole franchise.

I like the other soundtracks more because of the variation, but as far as all my favourites... Yakuza 3 has the highest number!

Damn I want to fight
Joji all over again after listening to that song.

Just so you know she's a real person.

Who's video you can later watch at Gandahara.

I just got a Golden Rifle from a million yen machine. It really did make my dreams come true, and my next fight against Kuze (the last one, I'd imagine) much easier. It's a beast.

Just finished Chapter 14. Brutal in every sense of the word.

How have you guys enjoyed the Giant Bomb series on Yakuza 0 so far?

By the way, this baby is totally going to hit 200 pages!

They're having a lot of fun with it so it's been fun to watch. They also grasped the mechanics fairly quickly (faster than I grasped the series in its PS2 heyday) but they overthink HEAT actions and weapons and HEAT actions while using weapons quite a bit. They're learning more about the system from GB site comments so hopefully down the stretch everything will click.

Small little detail I liked in Kiryu's final boss.
The fact Keiji starts out in the Rush style, but switches to beast and brawler later in the fight

I feel like they think it's a combination of Sleeping Dogs and Shenmue, when it's really more River City Ransom meets JRPG.

There's not a unique heat animation for every possible situation, and don't seem to grasp that using heat all the time isn't necessarily great.

Hey guys,

Are there any online places that are selling the physical for a reasonable price still?

Mine has been lost in the post, and ozgameshop were nice enough to refund it. I've already got Nioh (today!) from them so Yakuza 0 is definitely gone.

Anyway it seems like it's sold out everywhere and Amazon is US$69 after shipping, Play-asia is US$65 after shipping. I paid US$52 (AU$70) at ozgameshop but its sold out now.

I probably should buy the digital, but I really want to have the physical for Yakuza.

Yep, and at most they'll probably check out the three trainers for Kiryu and Majima once or twice and they'll still be trying to look for environmental actions by Chapter 13 lol because no way do I see them griding the real estate/cabaret stuff out.

Not really, the Yuki in Gandhara and the Telephone cards are based off of the Yuki in Maharaja. The Sunshine Yuki is the only hostess who's not based off an AV actress. In fact, she's the only one voiced by a professional seiyuu, which is why her voice is miles better than the other hostesses in the game.

Yeah this game does damage scaling for repeated heat-moves, a important thing to know to just not waste time and heat. This game will take so long to complete for them but at least they will get a million pieces of advice.

I can't wait until they feel confident enough to fight a Mr. Shakedown.

Whoops, looking at the prices I think might be better to get it off play Asia or Amazon. If your brother is lucky he can find in a target store for $59.

Is there something I don't know about fighting this dude?

I did it early on with Majima on hard (like at the beginning of the chapter) and the fight was essentially me punishing the dude's tackle thing for like several minutes.

It was awful lol

Also, been trying to do the bosses more without using health items and whatever, but that cult mission threw me for a loop since the arena was awful and I was clipping on everything >_>

I did not know that. Cheers. She is definitely the most engaging of the Platinum gals and the conclusion to her story was fantastic in lots of ways.
