Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

Yeah, what is up with Ai Uehara. Not that I expected stellar voice acting from her, but when she's speaking in her actual movies, she never sounds as robotic as she does here. That fake laugh alone..."Eh - he - he".

Edit: Actually, she might have done that robotic laugh in one or two of her movies too, now that I think about it. Still nowhere near as bad.

Ai's voice is so bad, it's good.

So I'm about to finish chapter 10. How many hours would it take to just go through the rest of the story? I'd like to finish before Horizon comes out.
I spent most of my time the last 2 weeks on real estate and cabaret club.

Not really, the Yuki in Gandhara and the Telephone cards are based off of the Yuki in Maharaja. The Sunshine Yuki is the only hostess who's not based off an AV actress. In fact, she's the only one voiced by a professional seiyuu, which is why her voice is miles better than the other hostesses in the game.

Well this is definitely something I didn't know, I presumed it was Yuki Natsume.

But this makes it even stranger, she's definitely the best female NPC model in the game besides Makoto, actually her model is like that of a major in game character whilst everyone else feels like the sort of cheap NPC feel to them despite being based on real people.

So I played Yakuza 6 demo and man I am disappointed.

1) Only one fighting style for Kiryu
2) Roadblocks everywhere
3) Kiryu can't run, he can only walk or sprint and he starts to breath heavily like 1 second after sprinting and gets tired way too quick. This will probably be upgradable to infinite sprint but the fact is the default sprint distance is so low and lack of any jogging like in Yakuza 0 makes it feel very slow.
4) The framerate, I know the series has primarily been 30FPS but Yakuza 6 barely hits 30 and runs in mid 20s for the most part. Plus after playing Yakuza 0 at 60FPS this just feels wrong.

Seems like Yakuza 6 will be much smaller in scope compared to other games and definitely Yakuza 5 (which some might say was full of bloat). I was hoping for the final Yakuza game to be massive but from what I've read, heard and played of the demo it doesn't feel like it is that game.

If you don't spend time on cabaret and real estate and only do some side missions here and there then you can get through the story in say a little under 10 hours...Cutscenes including.

Well, at least for 3) you can buy a beverage that lets you sprint without getting tired for a short period of time.

I heard they change the engine for everything, so it probably going to be smaller then any other yakuza. It take a lot of time and money to create a engine. I heard horrible thing about the demo, you don't seem alone..

Yea it's a new engine but keep in mind Yakuza 3 was on a new engine too and it did a lot more than Yakuza 2. Yakuza 5 was sort of a new engine as well (though not completely) since they had to add a lot of new stuff to gameplay that wouldn't have been possible with Yakuza 3/4 engine and that game ended up being massive.

Gaf, I finally did it! I got all the trophies except for the legendary difficulty which I'm gonna stream this weekend!

Mahjong such a time sink figuring out what the hell was going on! Maybe 20 hours just trying to get all their CP points! But hell, atleast i'll never forget how to play Mahjong for the rest of my life.

Congratulations man. And you're right, Mahjong is a solidified game that I'm more than comfortable playing with real humans.

Goodbye virtual world.

Hey, thanks for running out and getting supplies for me. Here's a few hundred million yet. Get yourself something nice and pick me up a Phoenix feather.

*later*
Did you get the Phoenix feather?
Him: "The food was too spicy!"

All right, just installed the game and downloaded my saves from the cloud in my work PS4. My lunch breaks just got a whole lot better!

It's vg.chartz (not a source) but Yakuza 0 charted upwards of 50,000. No clue how far off that is (significantly, I presume) but hey it's something!

thanks for playing it and giving feedback!

1. I can dig that actually, I'm actually slightly annoyed to learn that Kiwami will have the same fighting systems as 0, unless there are new moves and combos it's a whole nother game that'll feel gameplay wise like an extension of 0.

So I like that they're sticking to one style with 6 and I like a lot of the combos I saw, especially the one with Kiryu swinging dem punches with square.

2. That's always been annoying and it's a shame they never put priority into fixing that - if this supposed to be open world anyway. Mass Effect has a lot of roadblocks as well but that game isn't necesarily considered open world.

3. wtf, why would they do that?? if the x button isn't occupied that should make it to run, and then tapping it should be sprint, just like in GTA.

4. I was thinking a similar thing you know, after playing countless hours and hours of Uncharted 4 multiplayer, one day I hit up the campaign again and I was really annoyed at the framerate which was cut in half. Yes the graphics were much better and all but still...the gameplay just wasn't as...I don't wanna say as fun to play because it was still fun but it just didn't feel or look as pleasant to play.

The Coliseum gets disappointingly grindy after awhile. I can barely play Endles Rout either because the constant repitition of the mini-cutscenes and accompanying sound clip make me feel like I'm going insane. It was fun while it lasted, but rank B is my limit I think.

I hate that there are no gambling cheat items in this game. I appreciate the flavour that having underground casinos brings but the actual mechanics of playing poker or blackjack? If I was looking for that there's plenty of other ways to get it. The cheat items worked as a recognition that in a world where there's save points and reloading gambling mini-games are mostly a gigantic waste of everybody's time.

I'm playing Yakuza again lol

Within the context of 0 (because I don't know anything else beyond that) who would win in a fight: Majima or Kiryu? That is probably hard to answer for the vets of the series lol.
The ending scene where they run into eachother on the street had me thinking about it.

I pick Majima. I think him being lowkey nuts gives him an edge. I do think Kiryu is stronger though.

Kiryu's fight record has show he has
constantly beaten Majima. It's not that hard but Kazuma has a record of like 5 victories to 0 losses... actually more if you count the spinoffs too :p

Both Yakuza 3 and Yakuza 5 had in between games (Kenzan and Binary Domain) which helped offset the development costs of the engine to be fair.

I'd rather they have stuck with their b tier budget they've stuck with Yakuza but sacrifices had to be made. Wished it was used in a game in between but seems Yakuza 6 will be the stepping stone for the next major game.

Love Ai to death, but that laugh is 100% terrible. Drives me nuts lol.

The dynamic between Majima/Yuki and Kiryu/Marina makes me like those 2 girls the most in this game.

Yep, it would have been better in a way to have another side game made as a stepping stone to Yakuza 6. Most of my minor issues with 6 in terms of content is just that its a landmark title (last Kiryu focused game) so it kinda deserved to have even more content than it did (though I do always point out how much actual new content they put into the game, while I miss certain main stay mini games I do love the new stuff put into the game). Even with the lesser (I guess?) amount of content it still took me 100+ hours to almost 100% the game (Puyo Puyo and fishing completion list challenges messed me up in that regard).
I think the next Yakuza game that uses the new engine will be something very impressive indeed.

the underground one?

you can't use items in there so fuck it.

I woke up with Rouge of Love in my head. Hi, my name is eyeball_kid, and I have a Yakuza problem.

Congratulations man. And you're right, Mahjong is a solidified game that I'm more than comfortable playing with real humans.

I don't really understand Mahjong, but I don't think I care to. The design seems convoluted and over-complicated. I'd rather they have put Go in the game.

Did anyone notice that dice game is basically the same game that's in Suikoden 1? The Suikoden version is actually a bit more fun because you can control the throw.

EVERYBODY SAY ROUGE OF LOVE

Finished the game yesterday. Play time 92:18, with a completion percentage of 81,55%. This was my first Yakuza game and I absolutely loved it. That finale chapter was so hype. This may become one of my favorite game series and I can't wait for Kiwami.

EDIT: Zero Puctuation did a review :p

so to follow up from last night's question: if i beat the game on hard, go back & mop up all the substoreis/amon/CP stuff and make a new game plus or whatever, does that carry into my legendary playthrough? just making sure i'm doing things right for an eventual plat, i should really just check a guide for this stuff

I believe for normal difficulties you can NG+, but Legendary difficulty specifically requires a clean save start.

You don't need to do a new game plus, just premium adventure mode is enough.

Legendary difficulty is new save slot only.

Many of us have a Yakuza problem, typically lasting 3 to 6 months over a two year period.

With respect to Mahjong: It's very much like (Tunk/Poker)*PigLatin

Once you understand the basics paring concepts and a couple of rules on when you are able to call your hand for a win, everything else takes care of itself.
The Yakuza series as a whole does a good job of removing a number of the small procedural nuances.

I've spent CP to change the interior design for both Club Sunshine AND Kiryu's office and I barely see any changes. Am I going crazy?!

You have to talk to Yamanoi in Kiryu's office to change them, or a new hostess at Sunshine after you beat the first club. I haven't gotten that far in Sunshine yet, but the real estate office changes are significant enough that you couldn't miss them.

So I just beat Jo

replace all my Staminum Sparks with Staminum Sporks
? Also, I love how they arbitrarily say
they will wait 17 years to fight you again.
