Yakuza 4 |OT| Welcome back, hostess bars & proper boxart!

When is it you can start getting rid of the garbage? Someone in this thread told me earlier some guy in the underground mall takes it. I have loads of it now haha.

I dont think you can sell or trade it in underground mall. When you get to the sewers, you will be able to trade it. You will reach the sewers with the second character.

Yakuza 4 dynamic theme (hostesses) is viewable - guess i didn't miss out on much; not sure what i was expecting, but honestly, whatever he had on right before applying it (people walking around town) looked better.

still wish we got that steel edition, though!

ps oh, didnt realize you cant change your own thread title...huh. oh well.
Yeah I had it. but it's got nothing on the Killzone 3 theme with the map mack

I must admit I'm several hours in and I'm not terribly entertained
I'm just past the bit where you rescue Kido after being kidnapped
.

It feels a much slower start than even 3 to be getting anywhere. Nor am I finding the main character extremely exciting.

What I did really love though was the JSRF track 'Concept of Love' being played in one of the newsagents. Very nice touch.

I believe I have most of the gambling aids, what would you guys recommend to play as a quick money maker?

I didn't really spend much time gambling in Yakuza 1-3, but now is a good time to start. Plus I need money.

I on the otherhand found Akiyama to be a good new character and ive enjoyed a lot of sidequests and beating people up, the follow up to the on-ground Heat move is superbrutal :p

and Audioboxer really should learn not to doublepost :p

Really digging Tanimura most of all. Never had a character like him in a game before.

Also, anyone notice the Akagi poster in the mahjong parlor?

Jeez oh Bowling is stressful. Trying to play the perfect game. Seems like if you put any sort of spin on the ball chances are you'll leave 1~2 pins 75% of the time.

I finally cracked this open last night.
Honestly, just between the vastly improved opening chapter and the new combat with Akiyama this is already looking better then 3 and I really liked 3.

Just started the game and Akiyama is one badass bro.
...but man...these sidequests can take way too fucking long. I'm just glad I memorized most of Kamuro-cho from Y3 @_@
Also screw this hostess bar weeabooness :V

If you don't like sidequests so much, you can leave those to later. You' ll get a chance to complete all of those later.

Oh I know that but...I can't help but feel COMPELLED to do them, at least for the money and quick EXP @3@
Speaking of which is Kamurocho Lullaby still sing-able in karaokes? That was my fav. song in Y3.

Found a Kmart in NH that Y3 & Y4. Sweet! Now I just need to avoid watching the videos on Gamersyde since I cannot play this until Wednesday night. :-\

Both hostess games are way addictive.

It's a good thing Tanimura and Akiyama seem to have the easiest time coming across money because I need quite a bit.

I'm going to cop to this. I was way too hasty dismissing Saejima earlier. I've warmed to his fighting style, especially his 'catch' heat moves (even if they can be a little difficult to pull off all the time), but man the end of his Chapter 3/beginning of Chapter 4. I'm a little choked up, I've got to admit. He's not as easily likeable as Akiyama, but I think the payoff for his character has been greater.

Can't believe I ended up buying this today when I went to go cancel my 3DS deposit at Gamestop. I haven't even put much time at all into Yakuza 3, but after hearing the good impressions and improvements on this one, I think I have a lot more incentive to. I think I did the right thing buying it.

Man, Saejima is fucking awesome. I've loved every second of his story so far. That boss fight...
Dragon vs Tiger!
... GOT ME SO HYPED. The game started off a bit slow, but I feel like things have been kicked into high gear.

The four character system is going to be a godsend. I usually get burned out playing as Kazuma, but basically starting fresh each time makes the game have more longevity. I don't think I can accept them going back to the old ways with 5.

EDIT: To go in depth on Saejima

The bit with two-eyed Majima... the shoot-out(Goddamn!)... prison life... the escape minus how Hamazaki dies(way too typical lol)... being tempted to rape Haruka... the fight with Kazuma!... then Kazuma giving him the money. All of these were awesome scenes, this dude might already be my favorite character in the series.

There is one hilarious cutscene towards the end of Part 1 that features the song :D

Just completed Part 1, took me just under 8 hours. What a game :D and Saejima is really cool! Judging from the trailers and his ugly clothes i took him for a jerk but damn did the start of Part 2 prove me wrong :D

Too bad Yakuza OTs are still so unpopular. There's always so much pre-release fuss, but as soon as the game comes out nobody cares anymore. :p
Anyway, I got my game today and played the Japanese demo part. I'm liking it, but the beginning is once again a bit too slow-paced with too much cutscenes. I wish the game was more open from the start and would slowly ramp up the story exposition.

After a fair few save, reloads in the casino I got my first few million. Blew a ton of it getting the girls at the hostess clubs happy haha.

Completed 1 of them (all 20 hearts). Damn expensive!

Pro-tip for those in the finale. Make sure to level up Tanimura and unlock his abilites as well as stock him with health items, his final boss fight is disproportionately more difficult than the other three characters.

Got the steel book edition and I'm glad I did, I've never been one to bother with those but wanted to support the series so took the plunge. It is very nice!

I'm about 6 hours in and am still in the intro stages of the game, in so much that I haven't changed characters yet.

Just wondering if anybody could break it down how the game is structured, I've been doing side quests as they come but am starting to get bogged down in them and everyone knows how long they can take in these games!

I know you can replay the side stuff in premium mode afterwards but I wanted to know if once you finish a character specific chapter does it ever switch back or is each one completely separate? Also similarly, does every character have access to the same areas, obviously I expect side quests to vary but can I do the hostess stuff with everyone for example?

Is there ever item management between characters? I basically looted more than half the lockers on one character.

Apparently in the last chapter you share money/inventory.

Sucks, because I did the same thing as you as well as making some of the top end weapons!

I'm 26 hours in with Akiyama on Hard with 81/100 locker keys already found. Ended up maxing out his level and trained/romanced all the hostesses he could. And I still ended up missing one of his sub stories. :(

Oh well, time to move on to the next character.

Another random gameplay question - does the inventory carry over between characters? Do you have to unequip stuff before moving on to the next character?

Ah, just read the post above. Doh, that's kind of a pain. :lol

Double edit: do keys carry over between characters? Can you leave lockers unopened and have them be available for the other guys? Having the key detector is making finding the keys somewhat easier.

Most people only gave a shit for Yakuza 3 because Sega cut stuff. Bitching threads always get the most posts.

After being forced to do the hostess stuff, I don't know why people are complaining that it was cut from 3. It is really bizarre and the most fun I had was making my girl go out with customers looking like a lunatic.

Also, what exactly are hostess clubs? I assume that guys just go there and pay girls to talk to them.

How confusing would the story be if you just jumped into this game with no knowledge of previous games? I'm interested as hell in the game, I just don't want to hunt down the PS2 games.

Doesn't really belong in this thread, I know, but I just finished watching the Yakuza 1 & 2 summaries in Yakuza 3, and I came out with 2 things:

1. A general knowledge of some characters that I think will be important going forward, and
2.
people die all over the place that are gong to come back later on, comic book style.

Then I started the game and it's just a lot more video. I was hoping to get an hour or two in to the game, but over the course of 4 or 5 hours all I accomplished was a recap of the first two games plus a ton of intro videos. (I did have a few other things to do than just play the game, so it wasn't just 4 or 5 hours straight of playing, mind you).

Hope I get more gameplay in the near future.

Basically. The host or hostess basically hangs out with the customer and gets them to buy expensive wine/food. The idea is to string the customer along for as long as possible.

There are video recaps of all the games (you even get a trophy for watching them all).

Hah, there's a lot of video exposition. But I think the action is crazy enough to justify it all.

Admittedly, even when I was talking to my wife about how much video there was I said it was basically par for the course that there is too much video at the beginning in games. I know when I start new games that there will be a lot more video to begin with than there will be throughout the rest of the game proper.

Holy time paradox!

Towards the end of Akiyama's chapters I bought Rio a dress that she really liked.
Now I'm at the beginning of Tanimura's chapters, I go to the same club Rio works at and boom there she is wearing the dress Akiyama bought her.

What the fuck.

She obviously had it, and just accepted it so you wouldn't feel bad. :p

Man man man man, I really wasn't expecting Saejima and Tanimura to be so awesome. I love Saejima story and I love Tanimura's fighting style.

I just started Part 2 and was wondering if somebody could clear something up for me, with the least amount of spoilers possible:

Is
Lily the daughter or wife of Saejima? I'm assuming daughter, but they were calling the woman in 1985 Lily's real(?) name.

Is this purposely ambiguous and will I find out later, or did I lose something in translation?

Neither, but the story will clear up who she is :)

in the last chapters you can switch between characters and do all remaining sidequests you might have missed.
