Yakuza: Dead Souls |OT| MAJIMA GORO TIME YOU GUYS

Some of the enemies in this game are shameless Left 4 Dead ripoffs. I love it. Valve WISHES they could make enemies as cool as this!

I'm only half joking... O_O

it's installed, and it's just sitting in the drive, waiting till sunday night for my weird weekend to start.
buying scotch & whiskey tomorrow to prepare.

Does this one still have mahjong? Are the minigames any easier? 100% both 3 and 4, and it was a fucking nightmare both times. Mahjong pissed me the fuck off in 4.

WHY DO YOU GIVE ME THE OPTION TO LEAVE THE GUY IF YOU DONT LET ME PICK IT

GOD AKIYAMA YOU ARE SUCH A WELCOME MAT

Just realize what minigame master is asking of you. I put over 100 hours in 3 and 4, and I could never get that stupid trophy

To be fair, Yakuza 4 is much easier to plat since it doesn't have an actual Minigame Master trophy and the required trophies from various minigames are mostly easy. Minigame Master in Yakuza 3 was a pain in the ass though and probably the trophy i'm the proudest of. :)

yeah i was a bit bummed out when i saw that.

i am now using L1 to go around corners, and you can press L2 on top of that for head locks. i use L2 all the time. sometimes it's finicky where your character is facing the enemy, you press L2 and he turns around and aims at the wall.

also! i noticed that while holding L1, you can't always more the camera. this actually feels like a bug, not a design choice. sometimes you just can't change the angle, and have to repress L1 and try again.

it's all small stuff though, there is an unbelievable amount of quality gameplay here. i'll end up sinking as much time as 3 and 4 which were both over 130 hours.

Will say, combat in this feels like more of a hassle than in the previous Yakuzas. I don't hate it anymore, but it's more of an 'oh boy..i have to go to the quarantine zone again'. At least with the melee system I could justify it by mixing it up in fights and suplexing dudes onto guard rails, smashing their faces in with my boot, dropkicking, etc

I'm not sure how you unlock Souls mode, but when you convert your first playthrough to premium doesn't the save file automatically default to Normal difficulty, anyway? I'm sure this game works like every other Yakuza title. Play on whatever mode from the start, make a premium from that save, and 100% the premium save.

Don't you always need to AT LEAST playthrough the main game a few times anyway in the PS3 Yakuza titles to get all the trophies? Just make a separate save for Souls when you unlock it, clear it, unlock the reward you most likely will get from it and the reward will be saved through the system file.

100% Premium, playthrough new game modes fresh to unlock system file goodies, DONE. That's how I play Yakuza titles anyway.

I unlocked it on Normal. Also, I'm probably going to type up my thoughts on the story once I finish a few things on Premium Adventure, mainly the leveling up partners so I can get the reward, some other things might have to be through subsequent playthroughs(Thank God weapon mods carry over this time). Though I will say the Final Chapter did not play out as I thought, was a bit disappointing in some aspects
...that being said, the bit with Akiyama piloting the helicopter and Majima's attempt to detox the zombie venom (despite the reveal that he was never infected, which I thought was a bit of a cop out) were badass and hilarious for the latter.

Oh one more thing...

Hey Ruby, if you have the ear of the Yakuza Dev. team handling 5...TELL THEM TO PUT IN PLAYABLE MAJIMA GORO AGAIN!

I am about an hour into the game..give or take.

I am slowly getting used to the controls, but I wish there was an option to tweak the camera speed. For me, it moves way too fast. Other then that, I am liking it so far.

Does the game become more "open" as you progress (like the previous Yakuza games), or is the game more of a corridor shooter?

Am I the only one who keeps doing a double take whenever I see this thread, mistaking it for a Dark Souls sequel? This is like the fourth time now, and somehow I keep missing the "Yakuza." Must be an elaborate conspiracy.

No problem. Let me know how it works out for you.

Switching that option to on definitely helped a bit although the camera is still really bad, it's now at least functional and makes it much easier to keep up with the action when I'm surrounded and what not. That parking garage type area that you keep having to run through (when you come down the elevator) with a bunch of narrow barren halls is still awful though and breaks the camera often and easily.

2 questions:

1. Is there a way to save in the quarantined area? I enjoy going in and doing sub stories, but sometimes I need to quit the game (real life calls) but don't want to lose all my progress.

2. Will I always have to do that gauntlet under the millennium tower to get into the quarantined zone? Is there a way to just go in without having to fight so much?

Am still on akiyama's chapter.

no saving in the quarantine area

you will eventually always have an easy access point in the quarantine

just finished at 30 hours! WOW! really liked the end. if you've played all the games, the credit montage will feel REALLY special. one of my favorite credit roles ever!

gotta love the devs message at the end too. i love how respectful japanese devs are of the player, especially team Yakker.

Bravo to Nagoshi and team! now to get that platinum!

You actually don't have to kill everything you see when you go in for free battle. Just run past mobs and get to your goal. Only deal with the mutants if you must, but move on otherwise.

'Get to the Top' is a Majima singing song for anyone wondering. No cutscene though, but it's pretty funny to watch him dance and sing.

It's also hella hard

Souls mode (OF THE END mode) unlocks after you beat it on hard. Keep in mind you're going to have to complete three playthroughs if you're going to platinum the game. You'll have to play though on Hard, Ex-Hard and Of The End (Souls). Keep in mind that you will not get the trophy for Ex-hard if you try to just complete it on Of the End (souls mode).

crap...so there's no point in playing on normal if you want to plat, eh? guess i'm starting on hard...

3rd section of chapter 1 on hard - not so bad so far (camera does take getting used to), but i wasnt expecting the heat sniper bits to have such a small window!

FINALLY got the game a few days ago and started it recently, getting used to the controls is gonna take time, just wish when you enter FPS mode you move the camera with the RIGHT stick, but I tend to do this because of the FPS games I played before it.
Right now I'm
on my back to Suppon Street with Hasegawa, and lost to the big mutant monster thing

Is there a trophy for beating the game without using Continues?
Looking at the trophy list, this may be the FIRST Yakuza game I'd Platinum~

EDIT: Oh and here's my Yakuza collection so far X3, yeah it may not be as great as some of you guys but I'm loving it~

yeah, thy that setting, man!

ps how is souls mode? is it a big jump from ex hard? im getting along fine so far in hard mode, lemme know if there's any items/armor etc i should be looking for!

wow i feel REALLY dumb.

the jump isn't so bad so far, and the first heat snipe wasn't any faster then hard was, but i am pretty sure it will get harder.

all finished with section 2 on dead souls.

i just used some money at the casino to make a shit load of it (baccarat)

so far it's pretty easy, just go go go and shoot. the damage and aggression are a bit higher though, a pack of zombies are vicious.

Of the End isn't that bad. Getting swarmed can be an issue if you don't have any healing drinks. (Ex. Beginning of Goda's chapter. )The only place I really had trouble was one of the boss fights in Kiryu's chapter.
Its the flying boss that regenerates. Zombies come from everywhere and attack you. Its the one that takes place above ground after you come from Purgatory. I think its 4-4.

This game is pretty bad :/ I'm not sure who thought it was ok to have 90s era shooter controls in teeny tiny corridors and then throw in long dialogue segments... Seriously? I mean i used guns in Yak4 but i didn't know they would build a game around that and not even bother checking to see if it was acceptable.. Not to mention the entite presentation is actually lifted right out of Yakuza 4 like some DLC expansion. Camera sucks controls suck so i just turned it off and threw up in a paper bag. :I

thats good that some of you seem to like it though. :)

Act 2 - MAJIMA GORO TIME YOU GUYS
yeah there's so many flaws here - objectively, i can't fault a lotta what daffy said in the last post - but as a fan, this is so cool. i'm wearing my sleeve & eyepatch (man that's messing me up!) and sipping JD for the full experience.

...anyone else slightly weirded out by the lack of locker keys? i find myself instinctively looking for them constantly.
do they really have/use these in japan? if my town did, id buy shit just to keep in one!

also, i always love the force feedback when you get your character good & ripped at shellac or one of the other bars. it's a must with Majima; he's the ODB of the clan.
