Yakuza: Dead Souls |OT| MAJIMA GORO TIME YOU GUYS

Got the game already to avoid future stock issues, but I've made a conscious decision to do my EX HARD run on Yakuza 4 before I play this one.

Fights on EX HARD are so much more fun.

^they are indeed!

also: i get that his helmet is the monkey-boy's weakness, but there's gotta be a faster way to take him out than i'm doing. i never catch him with that split-second triangle attack either.

also, the fighting guys - pretty much just hope for a weapon to bash em with, yeah?

The aggro zombies are by far my least favorite enemy in the game. I hate how they can knock you down, then be back on you before you even get a chance to stand up. Total BS. Thankfully I'm on Goda's chapter now, and his chaingun tears them a new one.

I LOVE this series. Have finally started 4, which is fantastic. I am NOT a fan of zombie games, or survival horror in general. I get the feeling this is zombie action, not horror. I can tolerate that.

That said, I'm going to buy this. I'm a Yakuza fiend, want to avoid shortages and want to support the series.

Bring on a proper 5!

good to know, Seraphis Cain! if there's any suggestions/tactics on monkey boy though, lemme know.

quite right! and enjoy 4, then join the party waiting for 5!

For Monkey Boys, I find the best tactic is to use a shotgun. Blast them once at close range, then just keep walking forward and shooting. 90% of the time you'll "stun lock" them and they won't have a chance to recover.

if the monkey boy is by himself, just run up and kick them on the ground. shoot, then kick them again when they stand up.

aggro's pretty much need to be dealt with using a shotgun or assault rifle.

the QT events are a bit faster then hard mode on dead souls mode, majima's boss took me almost 10 attempts before getting it

The best tactic on monkey boys is to use the shoulder tackle move. It knocks them over every time.

What the hell's the deal with half the upgrade items? Some require stuff that I've got hundreds of and others require stuff I've never even SEEN before(super resilient resin, demon stones, sacred wood, bloody cloths, etc)

Yeah, the QT events get pretty crazy in Dead Souls mode. Still not quite fast enough to get them the majority of the time yet.

Oh, and because we're a little overdue... next three posts who haven't won any merch yet = free pick of one of the three remaining items! (Yakuza playing card tin, tattoo sleeve, and Majima's eye patch.) If you're a winner, hit me up via PM with the address / name to ship to, and include a phone # if outside the US for customs.

Most of the initial winners should have their stuff by now - hope you guys enjoy it!

Super Resilient Resin you can get from Hasegawa by exchanging the points you get for completing her directives. Sacred Wood is a prize from the Batting Center. Bloody Cloth I'm not sure I've seen yet. Ditto for Demon Stones, which I REALLY NEED for Goda.

I'd gladly take the playing card tin off your hands Ruby!

Actually while here - question for you guys since reviews have been a little fuzzy. I've played Yakuza 3 & 4 craploads, so I know the city pretty well, but I'm curious how the infected area works. Is there one part of the city infested with zombies and so forth, and everywhere else is like the previous Yakuza games? Like, people walking about doing their thing, just staying clear of the danger zone? I can imagine this would be quite surreal if true, going between the two areas.

I don't know the conditions, but I'd love an eye patch, please? I'm in europe though, don't know if thats a problem.

the QT's are borderline impossible due to the fact that our brains can only react so fast

i wish i knew their exact timing, it has to be really close or just above .40, which is literally impossible to be faster then. pro drag racing taught me that.

anything below is literally a red light guess. especially since there are 4 possibilities and not just a gas pedal!

i was trying to see if the buttons had a pattern, since some QT (deadly premonition) games tend to go clockwise or counter clockwise on the attempts. no pattern so far, i wrote a bunch down but didn't see anything significant.

thanks again to ruby for the gifts, and thanks again to anyone who bought this. now back to work on my coveted platinum.

Grats to Koshi, Clown, and William - you're all winners. : )

Shipping to Europe is no problem. Just include a phone # for Customs and it should be fine. (Since we're not mailing "Bullets" anymore, we won't give the customs people any more heart attacks.)

Quin - you're very welcome, you guys.

damn. and im here thinking the window is slim in hard mode..i'm getting better at it, but it's a 50/50 for me so far. guess i shouldnt rely too much on these moves later on!

ps thanks again ruby, gonna take a pic with this stuff later, heh.

I haven't gotten my eye patch yet, should I be worried?

Demon Stones, aswell as the Scared Wood, can be found at the gambling hall for a couple of hundred points. The Bloody Cloth is in one of the Casinos (I think Purgatory's).

The High Density Polymer can be a pain to find, along with a couple of monster items, but thankfully most other items can be purchased (Thank you Baccarat/Platinum Plate trick). I've actually gotten most of the modding done save for getting the recipes for a couple of armors.

Has anyone tried the Underground missions? I've completed both of Akiyama's and only one of Majima's, but I'd to like to know what would be best to carry while I'm doing the later missions
especially Kazuma's with Amon.

aggro medals, monkey boy helmets...are these components for crafting or can i just sell them?

also, majima's quest with
cross-dressing daigo was of course brilliant
- but the seal of the dragon i got, i totally forget what that does too!

Aggro medals are required for certain weapon upgrades.

Indeed it is, I consider it proper pay back for getting him arrested in 4.
As for the Dragon Seal, it's for modding.

just finished dead souls difficulty. nice unlock! pretty breezy for the most part. one boss in particular required some thought and a few tricks. it was a 9 hour playthrough and i think i was level 60 or so.

i didn't use heat snipes barely at all the entire game other then the required ones.

now EX Hard mode? Lol.

i figured something badass out. i was obsessing over garys boot camp, and the final skill helps out with the timing of the heat snipes.

WOW YOU GUYS! it took me a while to get it, i was just training my buddies over and over again.

whoooo~!!!

finished all 15 subquests with Akimama!

now to continue the story!!

finally!!

just so i know: there's totally gonna be a free mode later where i can tie up what i missed, right? id hate to think id lose progress on some of these.

Damn it, I'm pretty sure I'm missing every single giveaway post because I'm busy playing the game lol

On another note though, this game along with Yakuza 4 make me want to delete the files so I can watch/listen to the amazing install sequence and music. I might be crazy though.

YOU GUYS, I need help how do I catch a zombie in fishing? Also where can I play Pool?
...and is there a Trophy for beating the game without using a Retry/Continue?

no trophy for no retries

you can play pool at cuez bar, in the underground mall

any progress you make can be carried into premium adventure mode, to tie up any loose ends (required to fight amon)

i'm going to finish up my hard mode and beat amon there, then do EX hard with the premium save and whatever ridiculous item Amon will give me.

Anyone currently playing as Majima right now? I can't seem to access the Cursed Manhole subterranean. I'm a little confused too because I believe that's the name of the first subterranean for Akiyama and so far Majima's dungeons have been unique. It's even in the same location as the first dungeon, but the manhole isn't active. If I go and check the Details tab on the Subterranean list it also shows that it is 15 floors deep which is clearly different than the first one.

I just completed the first of two (maybe more?) dungeons in Majima's chapter in Park Alley as well, but that Cursed Manhole one is still on my list yet I can't access it. Anyone know what's going on with this? Will I probably have to wait until Premium to figure this one out?

Edit: Sorry read that wrong, every character
save for Kazuma
only has two missions.

Straight question: is this game as bad as some reviews depict it?
As you can tell from my avatar I love the series, but I'm concerned that the non-canon story and the lack of novelty in the side activities, along with the bad gunplay, will make me not enjoy this one much.

it's a game for the fans. it has a lot of yakuza 4's design sensibilities which went a long way to help completionists who don't want to use guides.

the modding feels more at home then the other games since you rely your guns and equipment

not to say i don't miss the fucking god like komaki parry from 3 and 4, which knocks any attacker clear across the screen and knocks almost a full bar of health.

im still playing it now after 40 hours and will play it exclusively for practically 5 hours a day until it's done with. i have an incredible amount of yakuza stamina and could literally put 100 hours into a fresh yakuza game every year, even if it's just another update like 4 was from 3.

after binary domain, it's hard not to think the bottom line is going to go up, a lot. i'd expect Yakker 5 is going to look a lot fresher.

the team has a knack for working quickly, i can't wait to see what's next.

I get what you're saying. I'm one trophy away from the platinum in Yakuza 4, and I've gotten the Minigame master trophy in Yakuza 3, just to give you an idea. But I don't think I'll enjoy much playing the same minigames again.
So, back to my original question, more specifically, is the gunplay that bad?

(in regards to Yakuza 5 I'm sure it'll be good, if only for the five locations)

it's clunky, yeah

it doesn't feel much better then the yakuza gunplay from the other games. you auto lock on to enemies near by, and can use L2 for a head shot lock on. sometimes the L2 lock won't go the proper way and you'll end up looking backwards.

also, sometimes the camera gets stuck and you can't rotate it, which can be problematic.

all in all, the controls or systems never made the game feel unplayable or not fun.

it's a true bonified yakuza game with gunplay.

So any tips for completing
Gary's training? So far I got C and B ranks =/
Currently finishing off Akiyama's substories and I am rather glad with the approach they went to with the substories in this one.

Also, when should i go about doing
the cursed manholes?

for the run and gun gary's, just move forward, and use L2 immediately when the targets pop up. you should be able to get all head shots and a quick shot for the first of each wave.

as long as your moving quickly and making all head shots and quick shots you should get the S rank.

just watch the later ones for civilians, if you hit one of those you're screwed (-1000 points each)

the target range's just require memory. also, headshots seem to favor top left of the target so keep the cross hairs high when you aim manually.

has anyone figured out how to find the DLC or unlocked weapons?

i got a weapon unlock for dead souls difficulty, and downloaded the "densetsu" gamestop DLC pack. i looked at the usual yakuza goody spots and haven't found either the weapon or costumes.

i can equip the usual extra costumes. i don't see any extra karaoke in the extras, which is weird?

i checked my account transactions, and reinstalled it, but i still don't see sheet.

So I've only played 1 to 2 hours of this game but I think it's pretty awesome so far. After thinking the aiming controls were disastrous in the demo I just said screw it to aiming and now I just run around mashing r1. I think that's the way they wanted us to play instead of just planting ourselves with r2 and aiming all the time.

I don't know whether I want to activate this DLC code I got with the game. It comes with 8 hostess dresses and 8 weapons and 32 skills for the 4 main chars. I do want the dresses but I'm afraid the weapons and skills might make the game super easy...

...but is there a way so you move the cursor in FPS mode (Hold L2) with the Right Stick?
Ah and any tips for winning in Shogi? I'm too lazy to learn the rules think about the moves ugh.

I think I'm almost done with Akiyama's day time substories...and some of them were hilarious.
I also love how
Gary shows up when you finish a substory and get a partner, and then his theme plays in the background XD

as far as what i can tell, there is no DLC content to find anyway. i had some stuff i found at naomi's, but the costumes and outfits are nowhere to be found.

The DLC content won't automatically appear in your inventory; it just gets added to the game. You have to earn the extra weapons just like the others, so it doesn't really overpower too much. Gatling gun is quite powerful though. :)

i unlocked the dead souls weapon but have no idea who sells it or gives it to me. naomi's palace doesn't have anything, and when i go to change costumes i only see 3 per character where the DLC should be the 4th

Itagi, the guy in Kamayama's truck, asks if i want "goodies" or "hostess outfits", but there isn't anything to get. no special karaoke either.

the in game content is good enough, but this shit is getting annoying when it's messing with my yakuza.
