You don't hate remasters enough

Not really, I liked well made Remasters, especially the ones that cannot be played on modern systems.

For example I give anything to get Muramasa on modern system.

I think this is true but i like many vidya enjoyers have a pavlonian response to hearing about them.

a lot if not most of them are disappointing and crap.
 
I do hate threads that just paste a 30 minute video with no context. Not even a short description of the video or why I should spend 30 minutes of my life watching it.

I agree. I rather take well-made remasters/remakes of good old games than mediocre new games. But I would gladly take mediocre new games over shit remasters/remakes of old good games (like WarCraft III Reforged or FF7 Remake/Rebirth)
 
What I do hate above remasters is lazy threads that just drop a youtube video and that's it. I've seen bots put more effort.
 
I dont hate remasters, but I'm not a fan of most cash-grab ports disguised as remasters by doing the bare minimum (like just a rez bump, something that makes the dkc games and nsmbwu on switch come to mind)

But remasters meant to help breath new life into an old/outdated game I'm usually ok with. I would argue Mario Kart 8 dx, sm3dw+bf, the oblivion remaster, the nathan drake collection, halo 2 anniversary (via the mcc) are some examples of remasters done right

And of course I would absolutely buy Bloodborne Remastered in a fucking hearbeat, even a bare minimum upgrade would be an improvement over the 30fps with frame pacing issues and forced chromatic aberration
 
A good remaster that brings an old classic, not easily accessible anymore, to modern platforms is a good thing. Not sure why one would hate that.

Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe or 3D World aren't remasters, just ports with extra content
 
Even with shit remasters, it brings more people to the games, and opens up potential sequels happening. Especially if it is a series that has been on a long hiatus and had an uncertain future. A great way for the IP owner to test the waters.

The orginals are always going to be there if you don't like the remaster version. More options the better, shit or not.

Never cared for remasters.. now remakes on the other hand can be great. Give me Mass Effect trilogy remade in UE5 or better yet Frostbite Engine and I will hand you 100 in a heart beat.

I agree with the Arkham Series/AC Remasters. Those are absolutely atrocious. Just port it but crank up the resolution and FPS. A lot of those games were on PC at launch and could run at high resolutions anyway.

However I enjoy the Oblivion/MGS3 style. It's essentially a remake in the vein of movies getting remade.

They already messed it up enough on the 3DS remake. Gane runs at 4K/60fps on PC while looking just as cool as the original did, that should be enough.

I will say that right now recently there has been had a lot of old style games released and announced mixed in with some remasters of good games like virtua fighter 6, FF tactics, trails in the sky chapter 1, and DW7. PAC land 2 , sonic racing, donkey Kong , Mario kart world, Tokyo extreme racing. 2d ninja gaiden, and shinobi.

It's telling that companies are resorting to older style of games to make up for lack luster modern AAA titles.
 
I really did like remasters once upon a time, but they've been getting progressively worse over time... even Nintendo's latest doesn't seem to do the job properly, between DKC Returns and the Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 remasters. And there are a lot of studios like Bandai-Namco that just churn out a junk remaster pretty much every single time, often looking clearly worse than the original game from like 20 years ago. And then there's whatever the fuck Aspyr is doing to Deus Ex. I just think it's unfortunate that you've got games that are good enough or fondly remembered enough to justify a re-release, and then you get the absolute most dogshit teams that are actually doing the work and bungling it.

But then, I'm becoming more sensitive to the issues with even some of the older ones now. Chronicles of Riddick's Butcher Bay remaster that was included in the Dark Athena release totally changed the lighting and atmosphere and arguably made for a lesser experience. Same thing with Tomb Raider (2013): Definitive Edition. Or Shadows of the Colossus (which also messed with the controls). These are far from awful, of course, and I think these were generally much better than what we get now... but still a step back in some unfortunate ways.

For plenty of people, it's good enough and that's fine. Enjoy it. But for me, I'm at the point where I appreciate the stylistic choices the original game made and tend to prefer that over a "more idealized" recreation of it. Pretty much the only studio where I consistently still buy remasters and find them much better than the original is Night Dive. They are doing great work, and I wish more people would strive for that quality bar.

Sorry I just don't share your opinion about "every modern game suck" they have been plenty of modern games I enjoyed both AA and AAA.

Actually I'm losing interest in most indie games because 80% of them like to either make roguelike or soukslike, I'm honestly sick of it.

I have no complaints about them. Why wouldn't I want to have a game available to play at a higher resolution or whatever? It's just one of those things that's nice to have and there's no real reason NOT to make them.
 
You (we) don't hate shitty games and shitty predatory practices in the industry, that's the real problem.

Things like annual refreshes, loot boxes, pay to win, etc. should not exist.

It all comes down to "do the devs understand the design principle's and just try to bring it into current year or are they trying to put their own stamp on it and ruin the original intent/atmosphere/design" , they all should consult NightDive Studios before they even begin work on it.

I wish people in 2025 would learn to speak for themselves instead of trying an rally others into adopting their opinions.

I don't hate remasters on their own but dislike how many there are comparison to newer titles.

I think remasters worked best when games were putting out new ideas and pushing gameplay mechanics and graphics.

Even a lot of the new games today feel like remasters. So many derivative titles.
 
Remasters are genuinely just pointless with the exception of PS1 games (Spyro and Crash trilogies) because PS1 games are a blurry jittery mess.

A good game is a good game and those ones tend to be timeless in the gameplay department. A new coat of paint does nothing to enhance the experience.
