YouTube: "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube". Bad news

It's approaching being as expensive as the expensive cable packages. And it's only going to go up. It's getting absurd. And you know the streaming services will jack up their prices as well.

YouTube TV has nothing to do with this lol

It's as expensive as cable because it pretty much is cable.

And same thing will happen when they'll go too far

Got me today. Ublock origin on firefox. Bastards.
got me today too, untick ublock filters - quickfixes in the filter lists tab in ublock settings and restart your browser. found this fix on another thread and it worked for me. Im at the point of just not wasting my time on youtube anymore, when i watch stuff from my tv it's literally unbearable.

This is the final straw for me. If I can't watch on my PC then I will just not bother with YouTube anymore.

100%, even if it was a dollar a month I would not pay it, its a matter of principle. Google would charge you just to turn your tv on if they could.

Mine on Brave at the minute gets a black screen ad that doesn't load for 10 to 20 seconds then i can select skip and watch content, doesn't happen everytime just now and then, i use Firefox as well but not for you tube much. it's not that irritating yet!.

Not gonna lie I probably would buy premium but not at the current price of £13/month. If they didn't include YouTube music and cut the price to like £2-3/month then I'd go for it. I think they were trialling something like this in some countries.

Yesterday on brave got the message, but reloaded and everything worked fine?

Are they banning accounts because of adblocks?

I paid for few months of Premium in the past but when I saw current price: Fuck you Google.

Lol, came stright to GAF to see if anyone else is getting fucked over on YouTube.

On Firefox using uBlock Origin.

Any known extentions that work?

**UPDATE** - AdGuard Adblocker is working on Firefox.

For starters, Ublock Origin is now banned from Chrome. This happened a couple of days ago.
It still works on Browsers like Firefox and Brave.

Google made a new try to block adblockers and especially Ublock Origin.
For anyone with issues, go to the Ublock options and update the Ublock Quick Fizes.

There was just an update to Quick fixes. Please test if it works for you.

1. Click Here to update the list.

2. If you disabled the list previously, enable it back.

3. Close all previously opened YT tabs and try in a new one.

Yeah, it was called Premium Lite and I used it because it was perfect for me. Then they discontinued it for no good reason and I'll never pay for Premium again on principle.

For me the fix this time was: from the Brave Shields (the lion icon on the search bar) I changed the "block trackers & ads" setting for Youtube to "aggressively block trackers & ads".

Again, Adblock Ultimate still works like a charm for me on youtube. For people with issues, I added these lines to my filters a while ago, see if this helps:

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

The anti-ad blocker banner resurfaced for users surfing the web through Opera GX. The Chromium-based, gaming-oriented browser started showing the warning despite uBlock Origin being active. The same issue seems to affect some Firefox instances, while a few users were apparently unable to remove the banner even after turning the powerful ad blocking extension off.

Neowin reported that Chrome was being affected as well, providing a sluggish performance while uBlock Origin was active. So far, I had no luck trying to replicate the anti-ad blocker issue while watching several YouTube videos. My Firefox setup (135.0.1) plus uBlock Origin 1.62.0 is still working as intended, no issues in blocking ads or watching videos at full speed/resolution to report.

Being on Firefox and uBlock, I have yet to see any ads or countermeasures.

That being said, I would genuinely consider turning uBlock off if Youtube wasn't just fucking unusable without it.

Try using Brave.
Import your settings from Chrome, install Ublock Origin and you are set.
Brave OPERA* is a dumpster fire of shenanigans imo.

Once they got acquired their install methods became scummy and overall performance feels like mud compared to even Firefox.

Do you think they provide servers to provide this content out of the goodness of their own heart? it's a business.. they need to make money ..
you want something for nothing.

Though I have issues with how much they charge for premium.

YT working fine for me. I got Ublock Origin and Sponsorblock as chomre extensions and YT works, no ads and it even skips the green sponsor part of a video. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I also browse the net in Incognito mode.

I was happily paying for YT Premium Family India then the greedy bastards cancelled my sub in November. Your loss Google. Now you're getting nothing since I moved my entire family to Brave and now we are also no longer using Chrome. Brave is working fantastic for my Android, iOS, MacOS and Windows devices. I am using Perplexity AI since they're not censoring as much as ChatGPT, Bing and Gemini are. Gemini is the worst since it flags every little thing as political and I get zero results.
