The Order: 1886 leaks - new gifs, screenshots!

The screens are gorgeous
Amazing RAD went from psp to this

If Sony is releasing the supposedly U2 moment vid now
Can't wait to see what ammo they are saving for E3

seriously!? that qualifies as "all the bad news" in this world???

crazy talk...not to mention we've known all that for awhile, but am i nuts for having expected it all from the moment the game was announced?...

Could have sworn we have not known about 30 fps and no multiplayer for a while. Maybe we knew the latter, but there was just recently a thread on here confirming 30 fps. And people lost their shit.

This looks like any of the other dozens of third person cover shooters from the previous gen, only with better graphics. I know, it's a 5 second gif and none of the others show much more gameplay wise besides QTEs and cinematics. But, if I were making videos/gifs to showcase a new game, I would not show a generic run to cover + pop and shoot.

You do realize that these do not come from Sony? These are not from the media blitz tomorrow, they are from someone who had access to a video that made a couple of gifs.

RAD did not leak this footage. Can we please wait until we see the entire trailer and other gameplay footage before we make final judgements.

This has already been said by multiple people because multiple people keep saying the same thing.
These gifs are pieces of a whole. They were made by who ever leaked them, not the games director. And even if it is a "controlled leak" they wouldn't give away a huge gameplay element in a 3 second gif the night before reveal.
It's a third person shooter. This has been known since it was announced. You shoot stuff, in third person.

So why not "smh" at the people gushing over the game as well? Everyone, yourself included, is reacting to the same footage.

I don't think too many people are saying it's going to be the most amazing, deep gameplay experience ever based on these gifs. People ARE saying that it's going to be a shallow, generic TPS based on these gifs though. The positives are about the graphics, which look quite close in quality to the reveal trailer that many of us thought was unattainable in real time.

I'm definitely loving this game so far. I just hope the story is great. I love TPS. Some of the best games are TPS. I don't really understand what people expected.

Because the people gushing are doing so over the visuals, which isn't exactly the same thing as coming to the conclusion that the game's going to be boring/rubbish based off of the very little actual gameplay in the same gifs.

Pretty sure Sony Santa Monica are helping them, so it isn't too surprising.

It's funny how the notion of genre movie exists but is not accepted in gaming. What if it's a classical genre done right and with new techs that change the way you're experiencing it ?

It's generic because it follows the basic mechanics that you'd expect from a TPS...? I don't get it. It's a TPS. Of course at it's core, it going to play like a TPS.

To be fair, at this point having a shooter that doesn't let you use environmental cover would be ass-backwards.

The actions are context sensitive, the animations are scripted.

I prefer good old line of sight based shooters.

Sometimes it doesn't even make sense you get hit when you're clearly behind cover, but oh you forgot to press the actual cover button to initiate cover mode. Replace wall hugging with a duck button and perhaps a rolling / diving mechanic so that we can quickly throw ourselves out of danger.

This. I don't get what is so hard to understand here. It looks amazing, I hope the gameplay holds up and varied. Not going to draw conclusions about the gameplay yet though.

Because you can look at the footage and say it is beautiful. You cannot look at the footage and know if the game will be total crap or not.

This is a bit of an obtuse position to take. You and I have the same information - we both know what it looks like. Either we can both draw opposite conclusions from two seconds of footage or we can both draw no conclusions at all. We cannot force the stance that only a positive outlook is the acceptable one. It's stifling potential discussion (of which there isn't much available, considering how little we have to actually discuss).

That's a man.

BTW: 17 pages for this! What are guys going to do tomorrow?

Max Payne 3 used quantum physics and magic to overcome this issue. You can use those Max Payne jump dive slow-mo moves and they'll effect any other players who see it - causing them to move slow mo as well. Players who can't see other affected players move as normal.

Its a trip, but it worked. Not saying that exact solution would apply here, just that nature, and devious devs, find a way.
You can also go the bubble route, a la Stranglehold or The Specialists.

I do hope we see some of the monsters tomorrow. I've been worried that they were going to only show gunplay with human enemies for the first reveal but I really want to see the monsters.

But what about my 280 vertical p's? I want p's, p's all over me.
I agree it should not be a full price game, after all did they have to make 280p less content

Lol

Well some people seem to do a bit more. "Greatest game of fall 2014" certainly implies great gameplay

It will be a mess for sure, but there will certainly be more to talk about. :P

I'm really excited to see if they show off some of the creatures from the initial reveal trailer, and maybe some more environments.

If someone says that the image quality of the game is beautiful, there is the information to do so. To say that the game is generic, just like gears, or anything of that sort is an assumption that is not truly supported at all. You see about 4 seconds of game footage that showcase a part of one particular scenario. You can say that this particular part looks like things that you have seen before or even generic, but you cannot say that this is the entirety of the game or declare the entire game to be generic because of 4 seconds of leaked footage.

You do know those games came out over 10 years ago and he was talking about current time .

I was just saying you could make a great shooter that people would like without having to resort to implementing cover.

But that would take a bunch of time and thought into creating the levels so you are right that those aren't priorities for developers in this day & age.

I don't mind fighting in Victorian alleyways, I just hope I get the chance to fuck up Buckingham palace with the thermite gun.

Let's break this down to make it very simple:

Graphics/Art

- We see enough to know that at these moments (and those in previous media releases), it looks very impressive
- We don't see enough to know it looks very impressive all the time

Mechanics

- We see enough to know that there's familiar TPS gameplay mechanics
- We don't see enough to know what unique mechanics there are, but we've heard about some

Its maddeningly insane that you would have to break this down for some people.

What are you talking about? Enemy and cover placement are a part of level design, just not one that you happen to like. It still takes lots of time and though, especially in a game like this with high levels of destruction.

Yeah, I look forward to creatures reveal too.

Wow, this game looks amazing. It has to be the best looking game to come out on these consoles so far. Really looking forward to playing it.

He's not saying you can only draw positive ones. He's saying that you can only comment on the look of the game, because that's all you're able to reliably ascertain from these screenshots and gifs. What you're talking about re the "same information" stuff is if you make a comment that the game looks bad and someone else comments that the game looks great. That's fair enough. What isn't really reasonable is to take the "same information" - a few short gifs - and extrapolate whether the actual gameplay itself is going to be interesting, because you aren't equipped with anything close to the amount of knowledge required to make even the humblest of guesses. That's not the case with the visuals.
