OR... you're looking at a different weather condition, where there wasn't enough wind to blow things around. 'It no longer exists'... did you just make that up?

Really? Different weather conditions? Those explain flat textures weaker animation and bad lighting?

still going with this?

it must frustrate you to see everyone making the logical presumption, but you have to understand that this reaction, even if it's an incorrect presumption, is ENTIRELY UBISOFT'S CREATION.

and that they could have already stopped it happening with a few seconds of footage, or a straight answer in the Q+A.

I mean, their PR MIGHT be that inept, it's within the realm of plausibility, but anyone presuming the effects are all gone is forming a logical conclusion.
I understand it, and I wasn't planning on 'still going with this', but I just checked back on the thread and saw someone directly replying to me on the previous page with what appears to be a rash assumption (that was addressed in today's Q&A session).

I got to watch GoT season three for the very first time just two weeks ago - as that was the very first time those episodes were made available for purchase on the streaming services.

So consider that fact all you Game of Thrones gif-making assholes out there who spoiled shit for me so damn long ago. You know who you are. Assholes.

And now back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Damn, that sucks.

I personally got book five spoiled for me a couple of weeks ago.

Lesson learned, never look at twitch chat.

I was replying to this comment:

"The vegetation would still move, objects blowing along the streets, dust kicking up et al. There is NONE of that in any of the new footage because it no longer exists."

This has nothing to do with textures, animation or lighting.

I can't believe this thread keeps entertaining!

Request for a talented GIF maker (I wish I could do it myself...): Could somebody please take the infamous "This is Sparta" scene from 300 and edit the the face of Yves Guillemot in, then put the NeoGAF logo (or something other fitting) over the face of Leonidas, so that it all plays like "Guillemont" -> "this is madness" -> "Leonidas/Gaf representative" -> no, this is NEOGAF! *spartankick* ;)

Ok sorry to be "that guy" but what's going on in this thread now? Why's Jim so pissed?

Did something other than the game looking like shit now happen?

Jesus. I guess interest returned to 300 with the upcoming movie but I feel that joke has become stale.

Like Watch_Dog's graphics.

Was looking forward to a weekend off. Now I need to edit a last minute Jimquisition to replace Monday's planned one.

Fuckin' Ubisoft.

"Worried"? Not sure who he's talking to :D

I'd say more of a "neogaflol".

Good excuse to see awesome reaction gifs though - they're going in the bank :D

This, I am slightly confused.

Did Jim just join the thread and saw the shitty gif? Or what? I advise him to watch the full video at least.

Whos gonna be the guy who bumps this thread when W_D is finally out and looks stunning on max settings?

I hope it does. Almost no one is saying it CAN'T look that good. The problem is the recent trailer doesn't look that good and Ubi isn't doing a good job of proving otherwise.

If it's so close to release and looks so good why not just say, "Oh yah? Here's some more screens and some gameplay then!"

But they aren't.

So either:

A) It's true and it looks a lot worse than it used to.

B) They are really bad at nipping marketing issues in the bud.

You keep laughing at us, but show us the proof the game still looks as amazing as it did? We genuinely want this game to look great, this isn't like we feel Ubisoft owes us. FC3 still looked great even if not as great as it originally was planned to.

But this? Can you defend the trailer after Jimmy Fallon and 2012 stuff?

So I'm having trouble understanding this thread here please forgive me when I ask this. Who is to blame here? Sony? Ubisoft? MS? I mean that is a big difference in quality here and I'm curios as to who to blame for pulling shit like this.

Edit: omg I misread everything please ignore

I hope the people riding the sheep train here will be brave enough to not buy the game when it comes out.

I've already openly admitted that I'm leaving my pre-order where it is and still getting it on day 1. I still think it'll be a very fun game. But I like my eye candy, developers showing their shit off way too early is a major pet peeve of mine, and I'm also starting to have a real problem with cross gen bullshit. So I'ma bitch to my heart's content, thankyouverymuch.

Is there any reason to believe the game will turn out to be garbage? The previews I checked were very positive.

Not particularly. We're looking at the situation through a straw, where our entire context for the seemingly downgraded graphics is a single video, and then acting as if "not being as impressive as the initial reveal" is the equivalent of "looking like a piece of garbage that is maybe worth buying used later on."

Watch Dogs may or may not be the graphical showpiece it seemed it was going to be, but there's a pretty good chance it's still going to be a really solid game.

Same, I will still be buying this day one.

As for cross gen it's not terrible when handed to other teams but when ubisoft themselves tries to manage 6 fucking versions it's just rediculous.

I mean PC,360,ps3,wii u,xbox one and ps4.....that's a lot of targets to hitfor an engine, let alone optimize them.

ahhh he's asking the wrong question!!! He should be mentioning the 2012 e3 version. The downgrade happened ever since Feb 2013.
Even the 2013 demos look better than the new footage, if I'm honest.

I would be happy if the game still looked like this, but the new trailer and GameSpot/Everyeye videos don't seem to hold the same fidelity.

Looks like I'm skipping Watch Dogs and waiting for it to go on sale -
$10 steam sale that is
. What a shame. Went from most anticipated to least anticipated. :(

A (really) short rundown of what happened so far:

  • Ubisoft released a story trailer of Watch_Dogs, confirmed by PlayStation Denmarks Twitter to be from the PS4 version (-> 1080p, 250MB download here)
  • Ubisoft gave gaming magazines additional b-roll footage (as in video with straight gameplay, not meant for the public) that they can use in their video previews (like Italian site Every Eye did)
  • people immediately notice the downgrade from presentations at E3 2012 or Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
  • the damning GIF in the OP and this picture, among others, are taken from the b-roll
  • the b-roll footage is not confirmed to be from the PS4 version but Ubisoft could've shot down any speculations about it a long time ago (it's also highly unlikely they'd send PS3/360 b-roll footage of the game to gaming magazines)
  • instead, that's how they adressed the downgrade in a Twitch Q&A livestream:
"This asset (the trailer) has been created to convey the context of the game. It's something the fans wanted. In terms of graphic quality, I invite anyone to read the impressions of the journalist and it's pretty positive. We're in debug mode and we're fixing little things, the graphics are at no risk at all. I don't know why anyone thinks this." - approximate quote from the interview just now.

Feel free to add stuff if I missed anything important.

I mentioned in a recent post... I think cross gen is OK when they use the older gen build as the lead and then doll it up for next gen. It's when they lead with the next gen version and have to dumb it down to run on last gen when this shit happens.

I agree with you.

Yet, I do have a problem. This problem stems from the fact that this game is not the same game that was shown and promised to the world during E3 2012 (the show where many journalists gave the game the "game of the show" award to).

I think this is the main problem for many in this thread.
