Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

I don't think they're interested in releasing a bare bones version of the game that doesn't match their vision. I certainly wouldn't be interested in buying such a thing. Either make the complete game or don't, but I don't want to see them half-ass a product when they have a track record for making excellent games.

Seeing as this is a digital only game, there's plenty of opportunity for post launch updates if the fanbase shows up. They're dreaming of making this an 11 game, but setting the baseline at a 9 game. I'm saying there's still room to make it an 8 or even a 7 - with room to grow either via stretch goals, DLC or post launch updates.

I wish we lived in a world where there were 35,000+ people willing to back this on Kickstarter. Perhaps we do - it's not over yet. But I've made myself pretty clear in that I believe they've priced this thing too high. I'm done being old man yelling at cloud.

Good luck Amplitude.

I'm not backing it but I hope it gets made for the fans.

I feel Frequency and Amplitude are over-rated. I owned both since i was a music game player back then. Friends that were new to music games really liked it but it just wasn't enough for me. I ended up really disliking the track mechanic and there wasn't enough challenge. The music was fine but due to the track mechanic I never got connected to it.

I can understand why they need to go with an HD remake with gameplay 'improvements'. But I would be much more interested if they can do a sequel in which I would expect an 'evolved' gameplay experience.

Yeah the backlash really took the wind out of this ones sails.

Also I just dont think they had enough time to hit 775k. 500k maybe but not a chance it hits 775. Maybe if it was a full 30 days it would have made it.

If they hadn't insisted on the old name, they wouldn't have had the legal problems that delayed their kickstarter, and forced them into this harsh deadline.

If this doesn't make it, I don't think it will be the abbreviated fund raising period.

Kickstarter doesn't have a history of crowdfunding console-exclusive games, plain and simple. What kickstarter does have is a history of shunning platform-exclusive games like Republique, which was also in the same position as Harmonix's... until they reneged on "their vision" and promised a Mac and PC port halfway through the fundraising.

I'm not completely pessimistic about this kickstarter's chances, as there have been projects that bounced back, but I can pretty definitively say at this moment they aren't making any stretch goals if things remain the same.

They need some serious updates to this to renew interest.

Possibly a prototype gameplay video or some tracks to listen to... ANYTHING. :/

Really bummed about this.

That's simply because there really hasn't been console projects that would be even close to the kind of stature that a new point 'n click game from one of the masters of the genre, completely new old school/Baldur's Gate like cRPG IP from one of the best devs in the genre or a sequel to one of the best received cRPGs have. A console exclusive could probably easily do 2+ million numbers if it was something like Chrono Trigger 2 or Shenmue 3 (of course, whether a good sequel to either could be made for 2-3+ million is debateable). And then there's the thing how well thought out console ports have driven. Console/handheld gamers are using Kickstarter a lot, that's proven by how much some console port stretch goals can push an interesting Kickstarter's funding. They just perhaps aren't quite as unified as. The absolute number of console supporters on Kickstarter might not be all that small or much smaller than PC people, but the problem is there are (just for an example) 40k people who support all kinds of 3DS ports, 20k people who support Vita ports, 35k people who support PS3 and/or PS4 ports, 30k who support Xbone ports, while PC fans are a more unified group of 140k people. So unless a project has a "we will do ports for all Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft platforms", the potential support from console gamers is only as big as a single platforms potential Kickstarter userbase is.

Sadly, Amplitude might not be quite the kind of franchise that will rally a big enough part of Sony gamers behind the project. While it has its hardcore fans, it was never a franchise that sold in the millions or even hundred of thousands like cRPGs and point 'n click adventure games have. It's not even from a genre that is that big, so it doesn't have as much potential to gather a large number of people together as RPGs and the like.

I think the lack of a PC version is really hurting them. As its been shown earlier in the thread all the $500k+ base Kickstarter all got successfully funded with PC as the typical main platform and other platforms as stretch goals.

aww, I came in here for hope, but i leave forlorn.

Someone just buy 60 "Harmonix throws you a party"s

Edit:

umm....
impedance?
flux?
umm...

phase?
filter?

umm...

i got nothin.

I'm very tempted to back as I love me some Harmonix, but I have a hard time booting up any of my last gen systems as it is, and I'm not going to have a PS4 until sometime next year or maybe later even. I'll add my voice to the sentiment that they should have just forgone the name and licensing headache and just made it a spiritual successor thus opening it to other platforms and allowing for a longer KS campaign. Anything on KS that doesn't have a PC version is just at such a disadvantage and they're rebuilding the game from the ground up so why not? Either way, I still hope it gets funded.

If it's playstation only sony should be footing the bill. Like people are pointing out, why would I be funding something is it isn't going to be on PC?

Why isn't this on the playstation blog? Why isn't this on the ps3 / Ps4 dash board? This was set up to fail.

I dare say a person that would ignore a game made by the same people, with the same gameplay, but with a different name is not a fan.
What if the Amplitude IP allows them to use some of the old (internally made) songs? If there's some Nostalgia World, that could have a few old songs, in additions to worlds filled with new ones.

You're talking about a hypothetical that requires another hypothetical.

Agreed. I know that some irrational folks believe that it was port-begging to bring up the lack of PC, but most folks brought it up out of concern because gaming KS pitches succeed when PC is the platform.

That isn't to say that a big console exclusive won't succeed, but we just don't have evidence that they have until this point. Therefore it's safer to promise a PC version first, and then move to other platforms later. I appreciate the fact that this wasn't an option for Amplitude but this doesn't change the rules of how these run.

I still want them to succeed, but I don't know if it's going to happen right now.

Sony already funded two games in the series that were not financial successes.

It's not THAT far-fetched. Sony owns Amplitude and maybe they own the rights to the original songs done for it too -> Sony allows Harmonix to use them when they use the Amplitude IP and only bring it to PS3 & 4 (and possibly Vita).

This looks rather less successful than I would have hoped. I'm personally in for more money than I should spend on such things, but I've wanted this game for a while. Rock Band Blitz just... didn't cut it.

I feel bad for not pledging because I really enjoy the Harmonix guys when they crash the GB panels etc but I have zero interest in any music or rhythm game.

I'm curious why they opted for such a short campaign.

First update came out. General gist of it is they seem happy with the progress so far and have lots of stuff planned, with new rewards and behind the scenes videos coming soon.

This is seriously breaking my heart.

Me too, and I feel even worse about the fact that it seems like what (in my opinion) has been completely misguided backlash has helped a lot in taking the wind out of its sails.

Don't get me wrong, everyone has the right to contribute or not and share their opinions as they wish-- but the conversation around this project seems to have become toxic and unexciting, more combative than hopeful. And that never helps the project.

Just a bummer all around.

Unfortunately the slowing is not surprising, the hardcore fans pledged, and now it sits.

A console exclusive with a name that's not well known + not that many days to pledge is not a recipe for success. Hopefully Sony sees that there is at least some hype towards it and that the game could easily reach new fans.

My forecast for the final result is twice the score at the 72 hour mark, so we're talking $400k here. Soz.
I don't even think it'll hit that -- that late surge only happens for successful projects, and 400k is way too far back to be perceived as having any sort of chance. (And welcome to another example of why developers constantly undershoot their needed budgets on Kickstarter.)

One other thought: I doubt that going with Not Amplitude and making their own game is as easy as it sounds. I would bet dollars to donuts that there are some other legal issues that would be a problem for Harmonix (which would be par for the course, for them)... things like the rights to the Harmonix-created music from the first two games, or any possible patent issues (KONAMI WILL SUE etc etc), and so on.

Well fuck..all this toxic is making me bummed Fuck all that mess.

To keep the conversation going, every so often i'm going to keep posting some of my favorite songs from Freq+Amp

I found a pretty cool channel that has a lets play+ the soundtrack. The lets play have analysis of the song and facts about it.
edit: damn this is one of the best lets plays i've seen. Lot of interesting facts on there
