Ubisoft: Watch_Dogs will run at 900p on PS4 and 792p on XB1, both at 30fps

It confuses me how 900p can make someone miss out of the game. You probably can't even tell the difference on a TV.

900p BF4 is easily discernible on my TV compared to every other 1080p game on PS4. It's noticeably blurrier. Just like sub-720p vs. 720p last gen. No confusion needed.

I've seen some complicated graphs that basically show 'if I have this size of the screen, and I sit one meter or two meters from it, then I might be able to see the difference'.

All this resolution stuff is PR differentiation.

The average last-gen "AAA" title ran with bad IQ at 1280x720 and 30 FPS (hopefully). Now, you want 1920x1080 at 60 FPS. That's 4.5 times as many rendered pixels. However, people also want better IQ, better graphical effects, better lighting, and more detailed assets in their "next gen" games. But if you make each pixel just 4 times more expensive to render (which isn't really all that much) the new consoles would already have to be 18 times more powerful than the previous ones to maintain 1080p60. They aren't, not by a long shot.

Thanks. Yeah, I get that, and I'm not one demanding for everything to be 1080p and 60fps. That's not mandatory for me. I just find it a little odd that even at 30fps it's still 900p on PS4. I would like to think it's better than that.

Sorry, couldn't it. This guy just left himself so open. :(

He was talking about indie games

Have you seen infamous or are we pretending that doesn't exist?

Exactly, I cannot imagine Watch Dogs taking up any more resources than Second Son. Ubisoft is just being lazy at this point. I bet you the PC version will struggle to get 60 FPS and 1080p as well. I have to repeat a previous poster: Ubisoft engineers have no clue how to program.

I read this as Ubisoft's failure, not Sony's.
It is another Far Cry 3. Luckily mods have rendered Ubisoft's laziness mute for the PC port, but that is another topic.

Yeah, the resolution is not the problem, it's a cross-platform game after all so they need to do lot's of adjustements and downgrades in some cases... The problem IMO is the fact that Sony LIED with putting that big banner on their website stating that the game will run at full 1080 at 60 frames per second. Talk about fake advertisement at it's finest....

I think their QA department needs a makeover much more than their engineers, quite frankly.

Yup. Ubisoft QA has been total shit for many years now. It started going down the crapper during the years Rainbow Six was huge and since then it's probably down to a couple of interns and a trained monkey at this point.

Why are devs having so much trouble hitting 1080/60? Or even just 1080? Is it an 'early in the gen' sort of problem?

The amount of people that are skipping this game purely because of a resolution and 30 FPS is crazy.

Your loss, I'll buy and enjoy this game.

so Infamous is the benchmark to beat in an open world game then......and will probably be for a long time.

Can't believe they are not pushing 1080p on Watch Dogs......hopefully the gameplay makes up for it then

Oh Lordy, save us Rockstar! PS4/XB1 GTA5 in June will be two Ubisoft knockout blows in one year.
Pretty sure I won't be missing anything good by cancelling this pre-order.

792. What kind of resolution is that. They should have just stuck to 720 and admitted their failure. At least it would run a bit smoother.

Yeah I'm a bit blown away by this as well line of thinking as well.

1080p is great and all but when did it get to the point where if a game is 900p, 792p, 720p or whatever the case may be, then it automatically becomes a non-purchase? It just seems like such a weird stance to take.

I mean, if that's what the priority is for people than so be it I guess. Resolution will always be a secondary factor for me.

PC or Wii U for me, yes come at me GAF, if Wii U plays ok and has interesting gamepad elements I might consider it, if not PC it is, but first will see if the game is any good.

This could be the biggest failure for Ubi if the game is crap.

Lol @ having to wait another gen to get 1080p gaming on consoles. I don't even know who to blame really. Crazy disappointment this generation.

I won't be buying it but I must say that Watch Dogs has been my favorite game to follow in a long time. Everytime news about it comes forward it's like the premiere of a new episode to my favorite new show.

Ugh 900p, I'm really tempted to cancel and just get it for PC when I upgrade in a few weeks.

I'll have to sit on it before I decide, but this is disappointing.
