Uncharted 4 runs at 1080p and targeting 60fps

If anyone can do it, they can. Given their history, I wonder why so many people are skeptical. Even if the IQ in the gameplay isn't identical, it should be very close and still better than anything we've seen on the consoles so far.

Wow. The art direction and attention to detail is very impressive. I can't believe they are targeting 60fps at 1080p. Can it be done? consistently? For single player and multiplayer?

Impressive. Still, I'm not exactly sure what people are expecting. There are absolutely no rendering artifacts of any kind in that footage, no aliasing, no z-fighting, no clipping issues, no SSAO artifacts... Compare this to the 1886 E3 2014 footage we saw, where starting at 1:30 you see all the aforementioned issues in a 5 second span, and that's at 1920x800 @ 30 fps.

There's no question that ND is preternaturally good at what they do, but it's probably wise to temper one's expectations at least until we see some actual gameplay footage.

Am I the only one also impressed by how the water reacts when it splashes on the rocks in the background? It looks like it's probably identical splashes but it still looks much better than current-gen.

I'd rather hear about how it's going to differentiate itself gameplay-wise from past releases. We've been through this whole "graphics revolution" with Uncharted before. Quite frankly, it's tiring. Please, show me what next-gen gameplay is or I'll reserve any hype I have to give.

Here we go again. Unless it's sarcasm, of course. But it's getting harder to tell these days

Here we go again with what? I just want to see gameplay from games rather than graphical showcases. Good on them not to show a CGI trailer but my goodness. It could have been a lot more.

I expect they'll adopt something akin to TLoU's "wide linear" approach to allow for more exploration and puzzles.

The only thing that changed was the color. 60fps in a cutscene is useless.

useless what? Except it looks better.

I swear people and their 60fps revisionist nonsense. 60fps is always better than 30fps, period, whether it cutscene or gameplay. Deal with it and move on.

Eric Baldwin @consperic · 16h
@morphinapg @joshscherr definitely motion capture. Except for the fly. ;)
Performance capture is the base for our performances.

Looked awesome.

What? Seriously? You think it's strange to find all this obsessing over the graphics odd? It looks great! That's nice. I loved all of Uncharted. But if it's still auto-platforming and a white dude mowing down hundreds of "enemies" just to catch some treasure - especially if it looks this good - then it's going to be an incredible disappointment.

Programming expertise is nice to applaud. It doesn't make for good gaming experiences, though, and ND have to show they can raise Uncharted's gameplay as much as they have its graphics.

somebody wanted a color corrected version

People are obsessing about graphics because this is a thread specifically about the graphics (1080p/60fps).

Fair enough. I think still think it's okay to find a thread dedicated to graphics itself a bit strange, though. It's not like GAF is only a bunch of programmers, right?

What would you propose they change from a gameplay perspective if not platforming and TPS? It's easy for folks to say they want to see something different and "raise the gameplay", but it's much harder to actually achieve. If it was easy to do, everyone would be doing it. The game is what it is, better to just accept it.

Oh so you were serious. That bit about "show me next gen gameplay". Honestly what do you expect? The wheel reinvented? It s uncharted. You shoot and punch things, lots of cover and jumping in beautiful locations with regular set pieces for spectacle. It s uncharted with prettier graphics. Nothing wrong with it, I'm rathet hyped myself. This constant clamour for next gen gameplay for an existing and established IP is weird. We already know what to expect..

Besides, as pointed above, this thread is about graphics/performance, right?

It'd be remarkably easy to improve the platforming. Make it have actual windows of error that you can fucking die easily and make platforming actually challenging; make it so you have to actually participate and not just gleefully jump mindlessly from ledge to ledge as they keep "cinematically" breaking behind you

it is not some rocket science to improve the comically awful platforming of Uncharted. I think it's a decent TPS, but the platforming is miserable.

Seriously, not that hard to watch the Youtube version of the trailer then watch the direct footage version. Night and fucking day.

That's quite true, but I don't see any reason to accept the opposite either. TLoU also was third person shooting/melee, but it seemed a lot more interesting than Uncharted (and I love Uncharted!) But no, it's absurd to say that Sony's premiere title should just remain as ultimately childish and simplistic as it is. Demand better. Why the hell not?

TLOU spoilers and crazy Uncharted 4 plot below
Nate has a girl with Elena, Elena dies during labour, Nathan unleashes a plague at the end of UC4, Sully dies, TLOU infection spreads, Nathan changes his name to Joel because the world hates him.

Color corrected version looks cool, but the highlights are way overblown. You can see much less actual detail than in original version. It also looks like the weather has changed to be the middle of the very sunny day.

Come on now. We don't even know what most other graphical talented devs like SSM and QD are doing yet, so this seems rather premature I would say.

Naughty Dog is one of those developers that always delivers better graphics on games.

Capcom & Square-Enix are some others.

The demand for "next gen gameplay". I mean, what even is that? Why would you expect them to radically depart from the series?
