The matches with Spain and the Netherlands are attractive for European sponsors and TV viewers. The matches with Brazil and Mexico are attractive for American sponsors and TV viewers. So they are shown during the according prime times?
I can spin it too, if Group A played first they would play at 13:00 local time. That's one of hottest times of the day. We can't have the host nation play in such appalling conditions.

Of course they're going to be positive in their post-match interviews. But if you saw Dempsey's face during the ESPN interview, you could tell he was crushed. Imagine how the rest of the team felt. They were a few seconds away from one of the biggest moments in their lives.

Tbf he did already look like he'd been in a bar fight.

But then this would have been the case all tournament long, right?

And it wasn't.

Oh well, just trying to back Van Gaal here. ;)

Well what I meant was that as they prepare to face germany I doubt the portugal game is going to be in their heads. It's not like they lost.

USA are going to go through as Ghana and Portugal will draw. They can beat Belgium in the round of 16, and would likely go on to face Argentina in the quarters, another team that has looked far from great. I think Argentina would get the win, but it still makes me sick to my stomach seeing the USA in the quarters.

Nope. All the groups have this weird time slot. D is before C, F before E etcetera.
I think this was decided before we even knew who was in which pool.

So for no teams it was known beforehand who would have the advantage. Well except for a team that was certain to be in A ofcourse.

Brazil was placed in pool A before the draw. Calendar is done in a way to suit host nation. That's always like that.

Edit: sould have read your post until the end :p

besides the results

I was surprised how US controlled midfield play, we didnt see this vs Ghana, this is a great sign going into Germany

This world soccer trophy has proven that Clint Dempsey is in the top three most valuable players in the world. The USMNT have proven how good they can be, and I think they will be strong favourites going into next years world soccer tournament. The team should be able to beat the German team comfortably, the Germany tie against Ghana proved that.

Amazing post going straight over the head of most people here lmao. 10/10

Argentina have not been that impressive to me at all

Lol I know Brazil was placed in A. That's why I said only a team certain to be in A would have an advantage in this time slot.

Oh and the last 3 WC's Group A finished first and not Group B. So I am not sure what you mean with 'suiting' the host nation.

I don't get why most of the media seems so adament that Mexico will make it through the group. I fully expect Croatia to make it tbh. Olic + Mandzukic coupled with the midfield is just so strong and they have to make up for the first game.

I dont know why some US fans are optimistic about playing Belgium. They are one of the few teams in the tournament with a decent defence and have one of the deepest squads. I think those factors will be crucial in the knockout stages. OK so they didnt play great in their opening games, but they still managed to win both, which is very ominous. They are miles better than Portugal, thats for sure.

"And the Germany USA match is finally is about to start and it looks like Klinsmann is rolling out a grill and Löw is bringing out some Bratwurst, Weißwurst, and enough Hefeweissbier for both teams."

Thanks for thr compliments and encouragement guys. My son has BIG dreams from playing in MLS to International all the up to National Team glory....I just want college scholarships at the most lol.

Only hindering aspect I see in American youth development is still the lack of casual play. Finding kids playing it in the street or in a field is still almost impossible. You'll see basketball courts packed as well as kids in a field playing 2 hand touch football...but when it comes to soccer you'll see a lone kid, like my son, by himself endlessly shooting on an empty net.

This leads to another issue with American soccer....pay to play (at a reasonable level)
Sure its cheap to sign your kid up for the local middle school team or town team but if you want them to have suitable competition or training it adds up astronomically..

Basically my sons soccer dreams actually impact the whole family as far as buying a new house, a second new car etc.. we count family trips as trips we take to other states for games, tournaments, clinics, etc.. Last year he trained at the University of Maryland, so our family trip became Maryland lol

On average I spend maybe 10 grand a year?
$3,000 for state team
$1,000 for local academy
$500 per week for local MLS summer camp (2 weeks a year)
$75 per session with another development league
$1000 for assorted hosted camp (this year Ajax is hosting a 4 day session, another is a Brazillian Speed/Agility/Dribbling clinic)
$600 for Futsal and 3v3 league
And I'm sure theres more I'm not figuring into play...
(Lets not discuss boots on a growing foot...HyperVenom FT's $225..good for about 6 months)
Tolls, gas, food, hotels....

Theres millions of great young athletes in America unable to afford quality play. We lost a boy last year after his parents divorce, now he lights it up on his middle school team against very weak opponents and his development has become stagnant, he could be such a better player.

Some matches have been moved around to maximize viewership. See both of USA's matches so far.

I would really like to see USA advance as far as they can myself. They got nervous at the end of the Portugal match but they play good football.

'MURICA!

How will this thread cope with 2 games running simultaneously?

Maybe we should have two separate threads and then merge them with mod-super-powers?

Still pissed about that last goal last night that Portugal got. I had an awesome sick burn for Ronaldo all typed up with his Injustica gif and everything, and then that happened. Serves me right for doing that prematurely. Somehow I can't see the US or Germany settling for a draw, I know Klinsmann denied that vehemently.

Ronaldo was useless on the pitch the whole game, except for that last fucking minute. Can't believe our defense was so out of position.
