Most(or a whole lot of) people in LI work in NYC...

LI counties coordinate with NYC in alot of levels for a reason, so no, they're not really THAT apart.

I disagree completely - they're worlds apart culturally. LI is full of suburbs that lack diversity, NYC is like the complete opposite of that. Geographically, sure it takes 45 minutes or so to get there but.... yeah, not a lot of cross over except the commuters that come in/out on the weekdays.

Listening to this rant of his, he'd definitely agree. Whether you agree or disagree with what Patrice says, you can't deny that Patrice was one of the most interesting people to listen to on the planet.

...that ranks among some of the dumbest shit I've listened to all year, and I listen to fucking Ke$ha. Not even kidding.

Tuned out when he went into the cartels bullshit.

Wait, now he's going in on some commercial about decrying homophobic speech that he hates, and using the "gay originally means happy" excuse. This dude...

I too resort to racial attacks when upset. Thought I was the only one! :O

Yeah that's bs. Opie and Anthony make this argument a lot. I've been angry at a lot of white people and I've never once said cracker in frustration. Who are these people that just yell "nigger!" when something doesn't go their way?

...this dude just compared coming out as a homosexual to coming out as someone who likes "tying bitches up and pissing on them."

Ain't two shakes about it: this man is a fucking idiot.

You probably wouldn't like his stand up then. One of his best jokes was how he found out he had diabetes because his girlfriend told him his piss tasted delicious.

That part was cringeworthy for sure. I thought the 'agree or disagree' would make it clear that the comments are not without controversy, and maybe shouldn't be taken seriously. However, I found it hugely entertaining.

Patrice believed all sorts of ridiculous conspiracies, too. His rants on those, while hilarious in my opinion, are also mindnumbingly idiotic. If you think this rant was offensive, you may be too sensitive to listen to his discussions on dating and relationships with women.

But this isn't a comedy act. His ranting and giving his "real opinion" on the business.

So explain to me how I'm supposed to listen to this man compare homosexuality to wanting "to be able to come out as loving to tie up bitches and piss on them and have the right to do that" with COMPLETE seriousness and not think he's a piece of shit?

Patrice is a comedy god, we lost a legend the day he passed away

He is far from stupid or an idiot, Rolling Stone did an amazing write up of his talent and life
http://www.jonahweiner.com/RS_Patrice_Jonah_Weiner.html

Listening to tidbits of him out of context with the entire conversation (generally over a whole 4-5hr O&A show) is not fair to access him

Yelling "but context!" only isn't a cover-all salve. I'm listening to the entire conversation that was linked while reading your post and wondering what the fuck the context could possibly be here.

Oh, and it's RICH how 5 minutes later he transitions into a rant about how "deflating and defeating" it is when people get criticized for making these jokes. Paraphrasing, "Man, they just don't understand how tough it is on us, and how uncomfortable it is when you get policed for the things you say." ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?

It has nothing to do with being "too sensitive." You say that like I just can't handle his truth or some shit.

Hey man, humor isn't for everyone. If you can't take deliberately shocking/offensive comments in stride, you probably should never enter a comedy club. Patrice was famous for walking entire crowds late in his career. Some would say he was his own worst enemy in that regard.

It has nothing to do with being "too sensitive." You say that like I just can't handle his truth or some shit.

Would you prefer 'too serious?' I mean, you are letting a professional clown get you worked up like this. Patrice is not for everybody. But, I like him. Not because he's some sage profit and social crusader, but because he makes me laugh.

Oh don't give me that bullshit. He's not in a fucking comedy club in this interview, and he's not trying to be funny. He's trying to be "real." This isn't some elaborately constructed joke with a punchline, by his own admission this is how he truly feels about these things that they're talking about. So the "b-b-but you just can't handle his comedy!" excuse doesn't hold water here when I criticize his opinions for being the stuff fertilizer's made of. He's not trying to be funny.

If there's a joke here, it's that his ass never realized that the reason he's so well-liked by these assholes is because he's basically being their personal Uncle Ruckus. He's EXACTLY the kind of ass-kisser he's bitching about in this rant.

Patrice wasn't a brilliant guy, that's for sure. He had an amazingly sharp wit, but people need to stop acting like he was some genius. I think a lot of O&A listeners felt he was smarter than he was because he would often pontificate on shit he knew nothing about, but came off as intelligent because nobody on the show had the balls to tell him to stfu.

Listen to O&A appearance when Bill Burr, Colin Quinn or Nick Dipaolo are on with Patrice and he comes off much differently.

You have obviously never seen him on FOX News or Tough Crowd lol

Patrice hardly kissed ass during this time on this earth, Chris Rock even tells him face to face the reason he can't get parts in Hollywood is not his talent its his hard opinions and his unwilling and unbending attitude

So I can have Bill Burr tell me about the Illuminati or the World Banks that are ruling our lives? Yeah I can see where the divide would come in

First time I hear about these people and god, It reminds me how little patience I have for edgy ass tryhards who seem to get a kick out of offending people, it's the same reason I have little patience when browsing 4chan.

My dad is such a big fan of their Opie and Anthony. He basically has it on whenever he is driving. So fucking cringeworthy to listen to when i'm in the car with him. I consider my dad to be an intelligent guy too, i don't understand why he listens to that crap.

:/ What? I only feel that way when they talk about politics. Their show has some of the funniest comedy I have ever heard.

Yes, I can honestly say I never have.

He was great on Fox News:

Someone should tweet at Jimmy Norton that they're glad Patrice is dead so he isn't alive to see what a hack Jim is.

then watch the fireworks ensue as Jim Norton makes fun of your twitter picture and then blocks you.

Edit: I also can't stand O and A and haven't listened in probably a decade. Just terrible shit designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Absolute garbage.

Patrice was awesome. Damn diabetes. Wish the dude took care of himself better. Also Greg Giraldo another Tough Crowd vet. RIP as well.

I'd say about 50% of the show is bad. They have a lot of time to fill every week and they take the lazy route for a lot of it. When they hit on something good, though, there is no funnier radio/podcast/whatever that I've heard in my life.

I am reluctant to go on with this. I had a longer explanation, but no need to get into this any more. I'll say this, though... anyone who would call Patrice an Uncle Tom(Ruckus) and an ass-kisser probably isn't familiar with his larger body of work. I think you may be the first to describe him like this.

And, comedy is an art-form. I can listen to people with whom I completely disagree saying things I personally detest and laugh, if it is novel, performed well, and catches me off guard. Paul Mooney and Nick DiPaulo, who fuck up every time they open their mouth, crack me up. Bill Hicks, who would go off looney about complete nonsense, cracked me up. Chris Rock, talking about how he understands why someone will murder their wife, a repulsive statement in itself, is pretty much the funniest thing I've ever heard. That's comedy. It's hard to explain, and if you take it this seriously, it just may not be for you. That's all I meant.

2. a) what? you've never seen a nice photograph taken at night? b) here's his tweet about what he was taking pictures of:

And here are a couple other photos he took that night

If you just saw those pictures unrelated to this story, would you think anything of it? Dude wanted to take pictures of NYC nightlife.
WTF? These pictures just prove the woman's point.

Every modern stand up comedian loves Patrice O'Neal. If you like any comedy act performing today, you should lose at least some respect for them for liking Patrice.

And O&A is a comedy show, there is no way around that. Things do get serious at times, but the show is mostly played for laughs. It's why they have so many stand up comedians on.

...Why do you keep glossing over the fact that this rant he went on was not during a comedy show? Why do you keep harping on my ability to appreciate comedy? This wasn't a comedy routine. How I feel about offensive comedy has nothing to do with Patrice giving his real opinions during a radio show interview.

A lot of people give patrice too much credit because he was a great debater. He was completely uninformed and uneducated on pretty much every subject, but he could give a line that was both hilarious and logical until you actually thought about it for a minute.

That he was taking pictures of her and not the "scenery". Besides I doubt I trust the guys word of how the event played out.

Who are you quoting when you say "scenery"? She was in the picture so he was taking a picture of her. So what?

I was trying to work it out, but I can't make his opinion not offensive. I think he was trying to say that just because being gay isn't a choice that it doesn't mean that he has to accept it unconditionally. He made the comically exaggerated comparison to his own sexuality and how he has a pissing fetish that he doesn't expect everyone to understand either, even though he doesn't get to choose what gets him off. At the end of the day, it's a point I don't agree with, but I also found it funny.

It's still funny to me. When he had the Black Phillip Show, he went on a rant about why 2 girls 1 cup was important to humanity. He said he liked it because "it's not because I like shit... it's because I hate women!!!" He's not a prophet, and he doesn't have me agreeing with him on his rant. But, it had me in tears laughing.

He may not have been educated, but as a comedian, he was brilliant in my opinion.

I keep glossing over it because it's not important. That's semantics. But, I'll indulge you. It's not an interview. This is him guest hosting a comedy radio show. Go google actual interviews with him. He's reserved, standoffish, and fairly unpleasant. His radio persona is exactly what his stand-up style is like. He's definitely trying to entertain. If you don't find it funny, then what can I say? However, I think you are taking it too seriously

I think this rant was HILARIOUS. No, I don't think being gay is like having a sexual fetish. Yes, I think it's offensive, and these are assuredly his real opinions. I don't care, though. I've lightened up a lot.

The way he described how he should be accepted because 'I like tying up bitches and peeing on them,' was just hysterical to me.

Oh, I get it. You think everything that comes out of his mouth is a joke.

This is important to understand, because for a second I was wondering why you continued to insist that what he said in that audio wasn't meant to be taken seriously while also acknowledging that these are his real opinions, and not some carefully crafted comedy routine.

But I get it now, it's because he's a comedian. And because he's a comedian you don't take anything he says seriously ever. Got it.

Good. Let's move on.

Patrice was more of an interesting person to observe than anything else. A life built around no restraint or impulse control, and ended as such.
That part was cringeworthy for sure. I thought the 'agree or disagree' would make it clear that the comments are not without controversy, and maybe shouldn't be taken seriously. However, I found it hugely entertaining.

Someone needs to make a compilation of everything he has said in regards to women and then post it on tumblr.

Although near the end of his life it seemed like he was making a turnaround on his views. It was shocking to hear him say that his girl was "too good for him."

Well if you have some actual rebuttal to that, I'm all ears. Maybe you could tell me what kind of comedy you enjoy?

What does it matter what kind of comedy I enjoy? I take issue with your comment about having to bash shock jock bullshit to look "cultured." Trashing shock jocks doesn't make you look cultured so much as enjoying them makes you look immature.

Look, these guys are Jerry Springer. They're internet trolls with a radio show. Let's not go glorifying them into something they're not.

Part of that is that they're also expected to be racist assholes. Lucky for them, they usually are. But, seriously, let's not go around trying to act like people who don't like them are just putting on airs. I don't like them because they're hack entertainer circus clowns and regularly try to appeal to the lowest common denominator of their audience. I don't think stupidity and boorishness should be respected, and I don't think that way because I'm trying to act cultured. I think that way because I understand what it means to "have a voice" in comedy, and at the end of the day these guys' voices directly correlate to whatever their listeners want it to be.

And if you want to like it? That's fine. But let's call a spade a spade here. It's shitty programming and people like it because people are entitled to like shitty programming. Doesn't mean the rest of us are fake for calling it like it is, which is exactly how I read your comment.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much. If so, I apologize.
